What a coincidence.. I made my first vinyl project on a mug yesterday. Then wondered about sealing it. I watched an older video from MGL to figure out how to do. Thank you for doing this QA and for all your other videos. Instead of a brush I used an art sponge. My strokes came out pretty even.

I have some questions--totally new at this. - Can dishwasher safe Modge podge go in microwave and oven once cured for 30 days - How to seal vinyl on plates and cups - food and microwave safe? Especially if I want to do the bottom of plates where food touches. - Can vinyl go in microwave and oven? - can epoxy rimmed cups go in microwave if they are ceramic? - can epoxy covered teapot go on stove if it’s ceramic? - can a ceramic item painted in Peabo porcelain 150 be eaten off of- (plate, cup, tea pot)

I actually put my permanent vinyl in the dishwasher all the time. I just can't be bothered to hand wash, if it comes off, I'll put it back on LOL

I sealed a wine glass, BUT I didn’t seal over the entire glass. I just used a small brush and sealed over and around it. I would only recommend doing this if you have one or two of something to seal, because it takes a bit of patience.

You shouldn't feel the "feet" of the vinyl much after sealing. It should feel like a sublimation cup. You should feel like it's there but not where you would want to peel it.

I have used the waterproof mod podge and got brush lines on my white mug! Is there a sealer you would recommend for white glass mugs or wine glasses? I use permanent vinyl but want to make it extra secure.

As someone who frequently does mugs, putting this over rhinestones would take away the shine. I recommend using e6000 to adhere the stones last. It's super strong and then they'll stay shiny ✨

If you don’t want to see the brush marks all you have to do is paint the mod lodge on first then use a sponge brayer and it will get rid of the brush marks.

@@mrsclg1 a sponge brayer looks like a paint roller only it’s smaller and the roller part is made of sponge. You can pick them up in most discount stores that have a craft section.

I put my mugs with vinyl in the dishwasher all the time and haven't had any issues yet! The first time I did it was an accident but I decided to test it with more and haven't had any issues so far and its been about 6 months! I know some vinyl wouldn't hold up though!

@@ADORNEDBYCHERICE its the vinyl i use. It is Arhiky brands from Amazon! Honestly some of the best vinyl I've ever used and definitely cheaper than a lot of the higher end brands!

Even with a good brush can you see where the sealer was applied? Do you need to cover the entire mug?

yes, that's what we recommend :) The brush strokes are less noticeable if the entire mug is coated!

Avoid brush marks by pouring the polycryclic in a shallow aluminum pan, and “roll” the mug in the poly. When it’s dry, repeat the process. Stand the mug on something smaller than the mug diameter, and allow the excess to drip off. After the mug has cured, lightly sand the bottom with 200 grit paper. A bit more goes into the process, but you’ll have a very smooth finish with zero brush marks. 😊

Gator Hide is more for waterproofing, where top coat is used for sealing :) We would go with the top coat if it were us! :) Good luck!

We don't put any spray on the MUG, we put it on the printable vinyl before cutting it :) 1 light coat does the job, as mentioned in the video :)

I have two mugs that I like except that they are black and dark brown respectively on the inside. I like to see the depth of color of my tea. So I spray painted the insides white and sealed them with mod podge dishwasher safe, allowing them to cure for 28 days. Just tried them yesterday and found that the mod podge imparted a slight but noticeable odor and taste to the tea. Is there any way I can get rid of the odor and taste? Thanks!

Dishwasher safe Mod Podge is NOT food safe and should not be used anyway that touches your mouth/drink/food.

We don't recommend it as it will leave a texture on the mug.

Do you seal the entire mug, or just over the vinyl?

Good question! We recommend sealing the whole mug so that it looks less obvious that the sealer is there. If it's in one area, it looks pretty obvious. However if it's all over the mug it doesn't look near as obvious! Best of luck!
