At Star Wars Celebration 2023 Lucasfilm announced three new movies in development, one from Dave Filoni, one from James Mangold and one from Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy featuring the return of Daisy Ridley as Rey Skywalker, set 15 years after the events of Episode IX: Rise of Skywalker, with Rey rebuilding a New Jedi Order.
But this movie needs to avoid doing the exact same thing as all those that came before it.

Maybe it’s a group force users that’s trying to eliminate all other force users, not to gain power for themselves but they view both Jedi and Sith as bad for the Galaxy and the y are the cause of so many conflicts.

One thing I want from the film is since it’s takes place 15 years after IX, Rey’s Jedi Order should already in progress with a minimum of 10 Jedi. Because outside of The High Republic, Disney’s been peddling lone Jedi narratives non stop and I’ve been done with nearly extinct Jedi since TFA.

I agree. If it's been 15 years I would like to see an established Order, not one that is just getting off the ground. Then again it could be Rey doesn't feel confident enough to start taking on students until much later after RoS, so who knows. Will have to wait and see.

So - since Rey had absolutely zero quality training (she was barely on the planet a hot minute with Luke) how is she going to advance to a point where she can train others? It’s like a first grader teaching a kindergarten student that we go to lunch and play outside. It would take several hundred lifetimes of training and teaching and passing down the knowledge for anyone to gain an adequate level of understanding. Luke trained with Obi Wan and then lived with Yoda, training daily. Obi Wan was able to return in force ghost fashion as I’m assuming Yoda did too. Luke had enough sufficient training to advance and he had the books (which Yoda force ghost blew up??) But Rey has zero to less connection with anyone and was pretty much a Mary Sue - sufficient on her own without anyone mentoring her (especially a male character who was literally written to drink green milk??). If they really want to do the story justice, Rey needs to find someone to train her - some lost, broken Jedi on the fringes of the universe - and convince them to return to teach the next generation for force users. It can be anyone - another woman if that is what Disney insists. But it would be beyond lazy to simply have Rey know all these things it took the other Jedi years of training under a mentor and teacher to grasp, understand and actually perform. (Pretty much like any skill)
@cubcos

Rey trained, very very briefly, with Luke, and then trained for a year under Leia. Rey also has the books that Luke had so she will be mostly self-taught through those. It's also set 15 years later so who knows what other resources she has found over the years.

What I think would be more interesting would be if the main antagonist was a non-force user, but the chaos that they cause starts to drive some of Rey's students dangerously close to the dark. As long as they aren't the main antagonist, I think that would be very interesting, and a great homage to Legends, when Luke had to deal with similar things

I don't personally agree with the 8th and 9th movie working even by themselves, but I do like Rey's actress. I just think she had a really bad script to her disadvantage. As for the villains, I don't have a problem with them being the sith, if the group backpedaled on the rule of two. So basically if the sith restarted their own academy on Korriban or maybe in the unexplored regions while Rey tries to spy on them, find where they are, where the academy is. Mainly because a real direct threat to Rey would just break canon again.

I have one idea for a particular story that could help redeem the character of Rey in the eyes of ALL the fans that are greatly disappointed in that character and just don't want a Rey Movie. Okay so here goes - It's obvious that the writing of the Rey character in the sequels (and those movies themselves) was horribly messy. I strongly believe the ONLY direction you can possibly take Rey now at this point coming off of where she is at the end of rise of skywalker is DOWN! In order to make us relate to Rey and actually empathise with her she needs to become FLAWED! My idea is this, if i was writing Rey and her overall story going forward in her new upcoming movie, i would draw heavy inspiration from a character called "tetsuo" from a classic manga/anime that i just love, called - AKIRA. I'll try and get straight to the point regards the character of tetsuo in the story of Akira. Basically tetsuo is the best friend of Kaneda, the leader of a teenage bike gang in a place known as "Neo tokyo". they're all basically a bunch of lost delinquents, the result of the failed society, of the bloated city that Neo tokyo has become. One night while chasing after a rival gang through the sprawling city, tetsuo get's abit ahead of himself, trying to prove himself to the rest of the gang, tetsuo gets caught up in a motorcycle accident, crashing into a escaped child who was being used in secret govt experiments, and who has unique, psionic powers and abilities. the child uses their abilities to shield themselves, as well as tetsuo when he nearly crashes into them on the motorway. this collision becomes a catalyst, that unlocks a latent ability in tetsuo, which throughout the story he learns of his newfound ability, psychic as well as powerful psychokinetic, and telekenesis abilities, where his powers end up completely going to his head, and they eventually become too much for him to handle, and grown completely out of his control, until they consume him, and the test-experiment child shown at the start of the anime/story; along with two other powerful children, they appear, by this point they are like "espers", and use their powers, sacrificing themselves, to contain tetsuo's destructive powers, preventing them from destroying all of neo tokyo. At this point the main character ofwhich the whole story is name off of, "Akira" a young boy, who was the original secret government experiment, and whose own power grew to atomic levels, destroying the old "tokyo". that boy reappears at this point, to in a sense bring tetsuo with him, returning back to source. there's obviously loads more to the story, but basically that's it in a nutshell, and the overall jist of tetsuo's tragic story in particular. For Rey i would make it where Rey never learned real discipline, this was exemplified in the rise of skywalker, she may have defeated Sidious by deflecting his own lightning back at him, but she has his inherent blood within her, she is a clone of his bloodline, and display that she has his nature, because she accidently and naturally shot a bolt of force-lightning out of her own hands blowing up that FO transport, thinking she had killed Chewie. So as much as she seems to stay in the light, i think there is a deep-hidden nature of the darkside that lays deep within Rey, and my idea would draw on that. Where Rey has been studying the ancient Jedi texts in those books, and she comes across whole sections all about the darkside; let's just say this is primitive force sensitive "Je'Dai" who dabbled in aspects of the darkside also, and Rey starts following this path and ideal; but because she never learned actual discipline, or "trained" for long periods of time to truly "learn" what it means to be a fully fledged Jedi; through the Dyad itself a purely Sith prophecy; she was able to delve into Kylo's mind, and just instantly access all his knowledge and Jedi training through the force; so it's like cheating, she has acquired all the "skills" without the wisdom and learning to fully master and control those skills and abilities. this ends up having a adverse affect on Rey where she ends up desiring more force abilities, more ancient knowledge of the force, and of the darkside; and this is where she ends up falling down the path. As she becomes more incredibly powerful through the force, she ends up losing her way, and loses control of the power she has attained, until she ends up out of control. Maybe i would make it where Rey's story through her movie takes her to other places like Korriban, Malachor, and just worlds steeped in the darkside. I would basically make her become so powerful through the force, she ends up becoming a kind of *Force Deity*, much like "the Daughter" but only a darkside version like "the Son", where she's completely out of control, and ultimately has to be stopped. I would simply make Rey a truly tragic figure because it's the only thing that makes sense for the character in my mind, and going off of everything JJ. Abrams has very ironically included and basically set in stone, and made CANON through his "the Rise of Skywalker" conclusion to the Disney Sequel trilogy. Now ofcourse this would not go down well at all with practically ALL Sequels Fans, and there's no way ever that Disney and Kathleen Kennedy's Lucasfilm would be onboard with this very idea; but i'm afraid they simply can't have their cake and eat it with Rey. You simply cannot just make Rey a "Palpatine" BY BLOOD, then sit there and say - "well YOU can be WHOEVER YOU want to be! It really doesn't matter what your origin is!" Erm no, i'm afraid it does! Especially when you're born out of the result of Cloning, Genetic experimentation, from someone who was a Sith and through their whole life, steeped in the Darkside of the force. So that's my overall idea for Rey. I still havn't thought of how Finn would factor into any of it, or Poe or force ghost Luke, Leia and Anakin. Maybe Rey becoming so powerful ascending to the level of somekind of "force goddess" like the Ones from the Mortis Arc, would mean it would actually need the otherworldly ability of the Force Ghosts themselves to defeat her; something like where Galadriel, Elrond and Gandalf all work together, combining their abilities to banish Sauron in the hobbit prequel movies. Maybe that's what the whole endgame of my Rey movie would entail; where it would literally need the force ghosts to use their innate force powers to sort of banish Rey force deity into the netherrealm of the force and keep her there forever.

This trend of modern feminists imbuing every show/movie with misandry has become a problem for us fantasy/sci- fans. And what makes it so much worse is that if we comment about it we're called misogynists. This needs to stop. It's also so extremely hypocritical and devious of them. They have become the very thing they hated in men. The stories used to have great women and men as characters, not this all-woman casting and repeating theme of demeaning men that we've seen for years now. Equality would equally represent male and female, not one or the other. It's creating more cultural problems then helping. Being a published author, Hollywood needs to stop lazily shoving their political crap into their productions, because it breaks all emersion and is creating more division and culture wars. Also, good writers with skill and care can put a parable that's uplifting for the world into a story and that still have a great plot, world building, and character development. This is just fan fiction surface level writing that uses virtue signaling to attack anyone who critiques it.

Dude this is why in truth what you simply have to do is just low this Rey movie. Let it come out and let it be whatever it is going to be. Let this Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy come at the specific story she's given and bring all her Intersectional Feminism into that story, and straight into the Rey character. Let her bring all that Misandry and hardcore, Man-hating activism and agenda into her storytelling for the Rey movie; and just sit back and watch just how many turn out to go see the movie, and how many more avoid it like the plague. Cause Kathy Kennedy she has just ONCE CHANCE here and if she doesn't get it right, if this Rey movie comes out and is massively "divisive", alienating most us passionate Starwars fans, if the Rey movie comes out and makes dismal box-office performance as bad as Solo and Indiana Jones & the Dial of Destiny; then that's it for the Sequels canon, and by that point Kathy Kennedy might end up that stressed and upset at her failure to make Rey this hugely beloved character leading the way for the franchise as a whole; as well as making the Sequels relevant; she may even end up just quitting and altogether stepping down from Lucasfilm. Let's see how this goes, i think too much damage has been done already to ever win back most the Fans It's only really younguns like this dude who love the Sequels; and deep down subconsciously, most sequels fans only love the Sequels, purely because they can't stand the fact so many older fans hate on them; and the young fans, they always want the "NEWER" stuff, that represents them in their "Current era" to be Embraced and accepted. the fact of the matter is for all of us older fans who don't like the sequels, we actually ALL went into the force awakens and last jedi fully optimistic, we originally wanted to love the sequels; but once Rian and JJ showed us they disrespected the Legacy Characters, HELL NO!! that's when we check out, if you've got no respect for George Lucas starwars and the characters he created, then that's when you lose us as passionate fans. this is purely WHY it's really too late now, most of us will simply NEVER return to the sequels in any capacity, not for a Rey movie not ever, because too much damage was done to the lore, and to Luke/Han/Leia. they couldn't even write their OWN original new gen characters of Rey, Kylo and Finn good. that's just how incompetent they are. this Rey movie coming out will finally prove to EVERYONE just how big in number these Sequels fans really are. And at end of the Day once Disney see the numbers of just how many turn up to see the movie, that will determine the future of the "Disney Sequel Canon" itself.

Why not take the Jedi out as well, if we shove the Sith? Well, that's Solo. But if you just keep the Jedi, that's the High Republic era. You can fill 1000 years there, without having to bother with the Sith. Unless you want to portray their scheming in the dark, which would be quite pointless without a direct confrontation. And a direct confrontation in that era would brake established canon. And there is 24500-7000 BBY without the Sith as well, because they didn't exist yet. ABY any Force-sensitive can find a Sith Holocron or something else that corrupts them. Unless they are evil from birth, like Tenebrae. And possibly Sheev. To not have them in an ABY movie would just be a missed opportunity. It's like taking dark wizards out of Harry Potter or orcs out of LotR. There are other threats, sure, but nothing as iconic. Now, I am of the opinion that the Sith were permanently destroyed in 6 and that's the end of Star Wars. But there can still be dark Jedi, that was a thing at least 20 years ago too. I agree that Rosh Penin's fall was stupid but for Desann it made sense. Because there was never any ridiculous contrast, over the course of just an hour or two of gameplay. Desann was already evil when we were introduced to him and the backstory came later. I don't think anyone likes Jedi Academy for the story, it's almost as butchered as the sequels. But Jedi Outcast shows that they were on the right track with Snoke, Kylo and Hux. They just didn't follow through. One was turned into a joke, one was chopped in half in the second movie and the last one turned good. That's 3 bad choices for the arcs of the 3 main villains. The worst one was of course Snoke, since his premature death meant that they "had to" shoehorn Sheev in. A disastrous choice led to another disastrous choice, ultimately the poor result was well deserved.

@@cubcos Absolutely. I don't believe there's a way to pretend that Rey is popular with the broadest version of a Star Wars audience ... but a star wars movie in and of itself could likely still draw an automatic 300 to 400 mil ww box office gross .... meaning, they could make money if they kept the budget under 150. The biggest hurdle for LF/Disney to keep the budgets reasonable (bc 150 isn't 'low').... is having a modicum of planning that doesn't immediately get out of hand. Knowing what you're shooting / making and sticking to it.... you don't get 100m overages unless you're having to reconceptualize big chunks of a project.

How about not being made in the first place? MaReySu declaring herself a "Skywalker" after stealing the Lars homestead, Red 5, the Millennium Falcon, Luke and Leia's light sabers, what is MaReySu going to appropriate? Darth SIdious's balls? of wait that's right she destroyed those. Do Disney's "writers" working under Darth Kennedy understand that establishing a guy who can lightning nuke an entire fleet can be defeated by Daisey RIdley's blank stare and crossed lightsabers either means MaReySu has plot armor so thick she can take a blast from "Star Wars Killer Base" to the forehead and not even get her hair messed up, or Disney hates anything with a penis so much they want to see literal gods destroyed by angry endogenous women.. As long as Disney employs Darth Kennedys and keeps hiring literal activists who pretend to be directors I have no faith at all in Disney productions. They are not trying to attract the female audience, they are trying to chase away the male audience. It is not the "director" of a sci fi fantasy to "make the audience uncomfortable, and change their attitude". It is scifi fantasy, escapist entertainment in it's purest form. Let this sink in, between 1977 to the day Disney bought Lucasfilm, Star Wars made 33 billion on merchandise alone. To date Disney has still not broken even compliments of bloated budgets, and vanity construction projects for blue skinned self insert captains of dinner theater "cruise liners". With economics like that it makes perfect sense to deliberately mutilate what was a money printing machine and chase away what makes 85% of your audience.

there's no way they'll have Finn appear because he's already a underdog and audiences love the underdog in a story, so finn would distract away from Rey. Also Finn appearing would mean they have to get into the whole issue of is he or is he Not Force Sensitive? And there are some fans that felt Finn and Rey deserved to be together romantically, considering just how much he cared for her; but Disney really don't go for Black Men in romance with White Women in any of their movies and tv series; infact for all Hollywood likes to say just how "Diverse" and "Progressive" they are, they hardly ever allow a interracial relationship between black man and white woman, especially if it's a young white woman and dark skinned black man. What i say may sound triggering but it's actually the truth, just go look at lists of Hollywood movies and you'll see yourself.

0:52 They really missed the boat with Rey. She should have been the decendant of some secret love child of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Satine Kryze. That love child could have gone into hiding in the wake of the fall of Mandalore to Darth Maul and the Death Watch. Maybe even hidden by BoKatan. Rey then is kidnapped and ends up on Jakku. She hears Anakin's old lightsaber because of the link the Kenobis had with the Skywalkers. That would have fallen in line a lot more with the types of stories typically told in the movies and would have made a lot more sense within the "Skywalker Saga" so to speak. Though I thought at first that Rey and Ben were going to be versions of Jacen and Jaina. Han and Leia's older twin children in the novels. Jacen even falls to the dark side and has to be killed by Jaina. In this continuity, I thought Rey was going to end up being the long lost daughter of Han and Leia. She was kidnapped and stolen with the Millennium Falcon, that's why they're both on Jakku. Han and Leia are even estranged due to Han constantly looking for Rey. Of course, I only had this thought until Rey meets Han and it became quite clear that nothing of the sort happened to Han. Oddly enough, Ben Solo did end up being a bit of an amalgamation of Jacen Solo and Ben Skywalker (Luke's and Mara Jade's son) from the novels. Though Darth Caedus (Jacen's Sith name) is a much better name than Kylo Ren.

Considering how they ended the sequels, I would assume the Sith are not going to be a big-bad. Im pretty sure the direction they were heading is making the new order a non-ridged group that is less concerned with light vs dark as much as it is the will of the force. Like Qui-Gon, but on the next level. I can see some side story bits in the formation of the order, and the early students having some issues with being able to control the impulses of the "dark-side" as they work their way towards balance, but I don't foresee that leading to a big-bad in a former student. If anything maybe just in the first film as a misdirect, while the big-bad is hinted at and setup in the background. Basically showing that even though the dark side can be powerful, a balanced approach is always more powerful. They can use this in the first film to solidify the direction of the new order, its teachings and its practices, while the new big-bad is setup as a real test of the new order.

Appreciate that. The other comments saying "it needs to avoid being made" are dripping with cleverness and edge. Really good thoughts about what the New Jedi Order could be, too. I feel like there is so much potential for what they could do with a new big-bad, excited to see what they come up with. Thanks for the comment, mate.

The only thing a REY movie needs to avoid is avoid being made.

The Ray movie is never going to happen my friend. It’s a ridiculous concept. No one ever wants to see that character on screen again.

A Ray movie might not happen, but a Rey movie most likely will happen.

It's going to be so much fun to see this movie flop into oblivion and then hear the endless whining how it flopped because of men. Nobody cares about Rey. Nobody will watch this trash movie.
