@lmao5724But what if a woman genuinely likes to dress and have makeup like that? Can we deny her that pleasure and the right to do it? The girl has a point.
@lmao5724 Sorry, but some people care for their appearance not because of "patriarchal norms", but because they simply want to, I sorry, but there is nothing wrong with that, the only thing I see is some people who have problems with creating a sucessful relationship being angry that some people are considered to be more attractive than them and fingting to free everyone from "restrictive norms" without asking anyone except themselves for their opinion.
@lmao5724 Now you are just a massive hypocrite you basically said "It is wrong for women to care about their appearance and sex appeal just for themselves, because they are reinforce these norms", what is exacly the same thing you CLAIM to be fighting against. So because some people are butthurt because they aren't found attractive, they can now tell everyone else what they should wear and how they should act? Also the thing about societal vacuum, sorry, but we are not a robots and we can do think for ourselves, for example is someone forcing you to wear expensive clothes? No, many people wear them, but no one will opress you if you want to wear a plain T-shirt, also because many people like certain fashion choice and many people take inspiration from them suddenly we can't make our own decisions, because we are forced to wear them, sorry, if you are in a minority that don't like new fashion simply wear what clothes you like and don't get pissed that most people like certain fashion, while you hate it.
You know it’s a bad show when the person you’re not supposed to agree with is making a bunch of good points and the character you’re supposed to agree with just pulled all her points out of her ass😭
And that is why she’s the more appealing, and most relatable, yet more physically abused person than The Mystery Machine. Maybe, passing the torch to Olive as the new gang member isn’t such a bad idea when you think about it.
@@kerisaltchannel3817 i'm not saying i like the show but I feel it's pretty obvious here. They're practically beating you over the head with the point of the episode lmfao
If this was a good show, this would be a turning point for Velma. Velma being knocked down would force her to rethink her stance and maybe consider another point of view. Perhaps being humbled would cause Velma to grow as a character. If this was a good show, but it's not.
from what i remember from watching the show i think its kinda supposed to be, to at least some extent. the problem is the writers are just very clearly asleep at the wheel. on top of all of its other many problems and bad writing decisions, Velma is also completely thematically incoherent.
I watched, it kinda was..Velma was willing to let the girls be who they wanted to be while also staying true to herself. Because a strong woman is one who is not afraid to show who they really are, who is not afraid to be herself. BUUUUUT I say kinda because she continues making dumb jokes about stereotypes and what society has deemed to be ok.
The sad thing about Velma is that it's actually not impossible to make a good adult version of Scooby-Doo, they just took the wrong route for this one.
eh, I mean I kinda agree, but if you're gonna make a version of Scooby Doo that changes everything that makes Scooby Doo what it is by making it all gory, mature, and grown up, just make a different show inspired by it imo. Honestly a show that pays homage to Scooby Doo with a more mature vibe would probably be more welcomed by people than a reboot that's basically an entirely different show but with the same character names and title.
I agree if I wrote an adult animated adaption of Scooby doo I would do the same formula as the other Scooby Doo shows have but with cursing and horrible crimes like murder and the r word on screen for the viewer to see
Olive was absolutely right, no woman should have to change who they are or how they dress just so they don’t have to be a victim. Velma is ironically a victim blamer.
If you're willing to die for what you believe in, because in the world, unfortunately, we have to change to fit in and function It would be great if we didn't need to change who we are to survive, but the world isn't pretty
@@quinnfletcher3906 This is why being bad at writing should be illegal! It is a murder against our favorite characters and a murder against our brains!
It's what happens when a writer is so immersed in an echo chamber of their political views, that they assume everybody holds the same mindset as them or that they just have to show a blatant example of what they see as "wrong" to convince their audience, but as a result, they forget to make the characters likable or at least, relatable. The Velma show tried to course correct through meta humor, but failed to realize that pointing out "oh wow, Velma's a hypocritical, self-pitying, racist asshat" won't matter if the character's only redeeming trait is being the protagonist, not to mention not showing said character genuinely receiving lasting consequences for their actions and trying to change.
@@darrylferguson3622 The worst part is... Some cartoon reviewers will never complain about it because either they're too afraid to tell the truth or because they believe the same thing as the writer did. (Looking at you, Saber, and 24 Nick!)
She was written that way because Mindy Kaling just wants to make Velma innocent, sympathetic and smart in this show. And in order to do that, she has to make everyone who disagrees with her or prettier than her the assholes in this show.
I love how they added Olive saying "I love looking hot" like it would make her a worse person. It doesn't. Dressing up and looking good can be great for self esteem, it doesn't make you shallow.
Plus, it just feels nice to look good? People seem to have this really wrong perception that if a woman is well-dressed and looks conventionally attractive, that *must* mean they are either doing it to catch someone's attention, make others feel bad, or because they're a slut. There's no in-between.
Wow, imagine having such a garbage of a protagonist that the supposed *"Mean girl thrope"* the most cliché character in the room it's a better person than the "hero" of the show
Same thing that happened with High Guardian Spice, Amaryllis was supposed to be a mean shallow person but ended up being the most liked character in the show
Top 3 Best Velma Characters 1) The Sheriff, who ran her over 2) Olive for humiliating her 3)Sophie, Velma's stepmother, for being a sweet person and very friendly
Let’s be honest, here, I’ve seen TOO many blonde girls being antagonised as dumb villainous phone-chatting bimbos, and this show accidentally created the REAL hero of the team. Both blonde, and eventually legally aged!
It's funny how she's supposed to be rude and a bitch but in reality, she's morally correct and humbles Velma. So basically, this show is reverse logic and that's why it sucks.
A lot of mean girls are accidentally written to be more likable than the protagonist you’re supposed to be rooting for, but I’ve never seen it be so blatant.
@@phantombobathe can't have them mean in the way actual mean groups are, so they just have to be obstacles for the other characters. Since they most likely aren't even minor antagonists, their actions have to be incredibly petty and at that level it's just the writers making someone who dislikes them
Its crazy because the way blondie talks is accurate to most feminists I met, while Velma is what PickMe usually acts, sugarcoating their malice with sweet girl facade who blames other women's style and hobbies for the tragic event that landed on them And this Velma is supposed to be progressive??
@@SkylarThompson-mu1qs I don't mean it that way. PickMes and Sweet girls are entirely different people. PickMes are like incels, they have their nice girl/guy facade but they obviously don't because they ironically act the opposite. They are the opposite of nice girls. Incels would say they are wife materials when PickMes barely took a bath, don't know how to cook and are opposite of lady-like behavior but due to isolation, they are desperate for men's attention no matter what the cost. Back then, PickMes were referred to as NiceGirls™ by men because they pointed out how creepy and aggressive they can get after rejection. Once you reject them, they go straight to man-hating behavior and suddenly they're on women's side as if they didn't just degrade their same gender community. That's the cycle. From PickMe to radical feminists. Actual feminists don't trust radical feminists because they know who they really are, and this Velma clip perfectly describes that.
@@SkylarThompson-mu1qs No, Sweet girls and PickMes are entirely different. I don't know what kind of sweet girls you mean but if you mean your crushes, idk about them so no. Anyway, I just use "Sweet girl facade" because I don't know the right term, I mean someone who is so delusional she thought she knows the best for everyone. Regardless, I still think Velma is a PickMe because of her not-so-subtle victim blaming. Common behavior of a PickMe. Edit: I didn't want this to be long lmao but it's prob just the phone. Anyway, your sweet girl princesses are safe, dude.
"But you're so much more than your looks! You can reverse your car without looking at the camera!" "I know, Velma! Just like I know I love looking hot!"
In their warped perspective, being a beautiful, tall, popular girl is wrong and evil while being a dumpy-looking, ugly, bitter and toxic woeisme is the go to empowerement. In their attempt to become "modern" and "unique" they pretty much stuck to the oldies trope of the "mean girl".
seriously, one of the few adult cartoons these days that doesn't go for the easy faux-rick and morty or family guy style, and then then they drop the ball on... everything else 😔
They barely are the characters to begin with, you could easily make these people OC’s and nothing would be that different. Norvile is the worst, he is basically nothing like shaggy.
@@Kyoshinumberonefan Yeah and Olive's been bullying her since kindergarten, not to mentions the insults they've been throwing her way when she tries to help them. And at the beginning of the episode she pushed her down for no reason (which led to Daphne threatening to slice her throat)
@@DDarkestKnightSo? It would be interesting to watch this character develope and question how she behaves or thinks. It seems from this clip that she genuinely acts on her own values and that she's not entirely wrong(well it's because i agree with what she's saying lol). I feel so much story potential from her. Im gonna go nerd out about it and maybe write a little story too
Funny how, by virtue of how horrible Velma's character is, every character who acts or speaks out against her (who we'd root against in any other media) instantly becomes more likeable then the MC.
@@saycandace1341 Daphne is the most inconsistent character in the group. Every iteration of her is different from the others. Which version "do you know?"
She's got a point! But since Velma learnt nothing from this, I guess the writer's intentions was to make these girls the "mean girls" while the reality is, if these characters existed, everyone would view Velma as the unlikeable bully of the school.
@@DDarkestKnight Simple, she still acts the same way after this episode. If you learn something one day and forget it the next, did you learn anything? The only person who actually changes in this episode is Gigi.
@@bluetiger2468 Velma's not gonna change overnight cause she learned a lesson on feminism. She's got a million lessons to learn before the show ends, the episode after this she learns about friendship by getting hit by a car for Norville. If Bojack Horseman taught us anything it's that tv characters don't change overnight.
@@thebighoney9034 You need to pull your head out your ass. She learned her on feminism but she's not going stop beefing with the girls who've been bullying her for years
When u make the mean girl more of a true feminist than the main character whose a wannabe feminist. U know the writing is bad when I respect the supposed “mean girl” spitting straight fact to the female main character who is forcing/insulting her to change herself when she clearly doesn’t want it.
I mean, blondie here is right. Should not have to dress or look “ugly” to not be murdered… I mean shit dude, telling someone you don’t share the same feelings shouldn’t get you murdered either, but that’s just how it is and I hate it.
I'm sorry but.... _who_ am I supposed to root against here? Cause surely this queen spitting straight facts and being a real advocate for womanhood can't be the one.
Ah, we're supposed to agree with the victim-blamer sociopath, and not the random women whose only crimes were being sassy and wearing revealing clothing. I see.
She is spitting facts though. No woman should have to change who they are or how they dress to not get attacked. Women should be able to wear what they want without being harassed. Doesn’t mean that’s her whole personality, we just wanna look hot for ourselves
Well ain’t that weird! Women being pretty and taking care of themselves isn’t the problem! And that there is no one way for a woman to live just like every other human being on the planet! *WILD AINT IT*
as somebody who has a fashion sense similar to velma’s the mean girls absolutely obliterated her and i could watch this clip all day. honestly the writers probably thought girls that looked like her would be on mindy’s side with this bullshit LOL
Also is it me or did this scene end up being a critique of slasher films that always have a weird habit of sexualising the hell out of a woman whilst also using the character’s sexuality as some “ha told you so moment”. I feel like this would’ve of been the intention had it been in a better show.
When season 2 comes out, do not watch it. Don't discuss it. Don't upload clips of it. Don't even make jokes about it. Or there will be more seasons of it, and more like it. The only way tae kill it is with irrelevance. Trust me on this. I'm a Sith, we know how tae kill things.
@DenModeforreal You speak true and it irritates me greatly. The solution tae dealing with this shite is obvious but fucking people won't commit tae it.
You are absolutely right, it is a shame that people see it equally out of morbidity. Anyway, another good tip is to watch it pirated if you are so curious.
Olive is the only mean girl that is straight up honest with the supposed “main character”. She’s way more interesting and likeable than Velma. Sure she’s the stereotypical mean rich girl. But when the main character is so unlikeable, I ended up rooting for anyone that’s against Velma.
For a weird reason, the blonde one reminded me a little of She-ra, because of that hairstyle lol... I feel glad I'm not the only one here that thought of it 😂
@@seancarroll136You do know that most of the Harry Potter fandom hates Rowling, too, right? Like, literally the whole fandom turned on her when she outed herself as a transphobe, and started pointing out every other problematic thing she's ever done.
