Great tip on the T handle. Having said that, I totally disagree on the most important tool. All this time, it has been the corkscrew the most important one!

T-handle. Never would have thought. Good info. Thanks! 🍺
@Scorge120
@Scorge120 5 лет назад
Dunno if these also count as tools, but I also like to bring: - Zip ties (plastic + metal for hot parts) - Small can of silicone lube (good to apply anywhere, safe on rubber, plastics, etc... tire change essential imo) - Duct tape - Electrical tape - Tire spoon/bead breaker (I have the Motion Pro bead pro) - Small rubber mallet - JB weld, plastic weld - Loctite, red & blue Some other stuff too, most of these items + pretty much everything in this video pack into a small Pelican case 1170 box which sits behind my left pannier rack on my AT fastened using two lash straps.

thank you Willy , what parts you will recommend taking in a long trip, I have a few extra screws, plastic clips, rubber grommets etc , there is always one that slips and fall inside or rolls and hide on you LOL I also have a collapsible t-handle that is handy and off course tie-wraps

Excellent video! Not a criticism, just a small suggestion: I recommend a JIS screwdriver (Japanese Industrial Standard) in place of Phillips. Reason being, many/most of the cross-shaped fasteners on Japanese bikes are actually JIS. They look the same but they're subtly different. If you can see a little dot/circle punched into the top of the screw, it's JIS. The proper JIS screwdriver will fit better and be less likely to cam-out and bork your screws. It will also work just fine on regular Phillips screws, so no need to carry both. I only learned of this distinction a couple of years ago, so figured others might not know either.

Hi Willi, welcome home. Really enjoyed your publications to date. Thanks. On one of your videos during your trip in S.A. I think.... you mentioned that a T handle was not enough particularly for removing the wheel nuts, so you said you must have a socket ratchet...then you said on this video, that you would jettison the socket ratchet...please clarify. Also No tire irons?? and interested to see where and what you carried your tool kit in. ....Cool Man Cheers

Well done. I carry a telescopic magnetic pick up tool. All those tools are useless if you can't find the nut, bolt, screw or washer you're trying to work on because it's in a small cavity or fallen into mud, dust or water.

Good stuff. Like others, I'm assuming tyre items are a separate video or just not addresses here? For me I started carrying a small chain break, Which I have used multiple times on multi-month rides. Which means carrying chisel for the head of the rivet. Rocks work as hammers. :-). I am curious how much time was spent off road in remote areas? My experience dictates different tool kits if I am on roads or remote more often.

Get a Wera Zyklops kit, a fraction of the size and weight of these, German Quality, all the torx and socket heads you need bar 1-2, which can be bought separately....much better than a T handle. A roll of silicon magic tape to seal hoses etc. Small roll of wire. Zip ties. 5ml bottle of Loctite. Blade from a Stanley utility knife. Small (very small) LED flashlight. 4” or 6” adjustable wrench (Bahco). All of these fit into Kriega’s excellent tool roll with room for a few more if you feel like it. Would be half the weight and size of those (unnecessary) ring/Open ended spanners.

Hey William, i stumbled on your Vlog 31 last night searching for Honda AT reviews and did not know it was part of a trip...needless to say I watched from 31 till the end 43, all on a Sunday evening finishing 12pm with work the next day...i could not stop! You sure have a talent to capture an audience and sense of adventure! I now am starting your vlog back from the beginning and i'm on #12. Good job buddy! I do have a question where i noticed you have a Kawa 650 that you also previously traveled on...how do you rate the 650 vs 1000 regardless of make. The reason I ask is i am pretty interested in the 2018 Suzuki DL 650 XT but notice the Honda NC750, but not sure if the Honda would be cut out for a trip similar to this...even the 650 for that matter? My budget would probably not allow for a 1000 at this point, and the 750 Honda for what i hear is too soft and "Pretty" for what you seemed to have gone through? What is your verdict regarding the engine size, seems the Suzuki has very nice bottom range torque? Greetings from South Africa!

@Scorge120

Soft is better off-road less chance of twisting your leg if it gets pinched between an obstacle and the pannier. On-road I still prefer soft if someone hits me from behind a hard top box positioned right behind me might result in a back injury
