In this video I share my favourite third-party Tesla app for controlling my Model 3 - so good I've relegated the official Tesla app to a sub-folder and this one lives pride of place on my iPhone homepage. And no, its not Tezlab.

Really great overview Mark. Thanks so much. Just one question. You mentioned that you can set up voice commands using (in my case) Siri. Could you possibly share a little more guidance as to how to do this - for example to open the front trunk, which has been something that I've been trying to do - unsuccessfully, outside of Tessie. No probs. So do you have Tessie installed? You’ll need either Tessie or some kind of third party app to set up a Siri shortcut like this. If you have an Apple Watch ‘Watch for Tesla’ will do this too (one off cost, no subscription).

Hi Mark, great video and app looks brill, thanks! Can I ask specifically regarding charge tracking - I am a company car driver (Secondary User) therefore don't have/can't get access to Tesla app Charge Stats. Can Tessie be a solution around this, and if so how does it get the charging data if my access via Tesla app is 'blocked'?

Great video, just signed up for a trial. What do you have your fuel settings on I’d like to set the fuel to 1.40 but seems complicated to do this

Thanks Karl, I’m sure you’ll love it. I just googled current cost per gallon and MPG for diesel (as our previous car was fuelled this way)- currently £5.51 per gallon or £1.46 per litre. One improvement that the app could follow is allow some type of feature to set a new rate and have the calculations work from that point rather than automatically retrospectively set all comparisons to whatever new rate you put in.

Thanks for this - I installed the app. One question is which app takes precedence if you have them both. For example if the charging is set to one time on the Tesla app and a different one on Tessie. Or as would be sensible - would the last one touched synchronize with the other (and the car of sourse).

Hi Michael! No problem. Schedule > Departure and Schedule > Charging are synced between the apps. Those two features are built into the car. Automation > Charging Schedules work independently in the cloud and would take priority over the other two. Are the settings accessible remotely? The amount of times I want to change the settings from inside the house when I remember. (Such as removing the walk away honk)

Hi Tim. Depends on the settings - not all but some are available remotely. More than the standard Tesla app for sure. Tessie though is designed as more of an analytics tool, mapping costs, driving, charging patterns etc.

Interesting video. How is it with the phantom drain? Some apps are constantly waking up the Tesla.

Thanks- glad you found it interesting. I’ve been using this as my main Tesla app for some time now and I can’t say I’ve found any issue with it. Most I’ve ever noticed in terms of drain is 1-2% overnight in cold weather. The app doesn’t seem to impact battery drain at all.

Apple Watch is mentioned, what can you do with the Apple Watch exactly? Do you know if its much the same as on “Watch app for Tesla” and “Watchla”, or is it very limited options witch “Tessie” on Apple Watch?

Started using the app but still confused on the settings for Fuel Comparison Settings. I set mine to MPG in Efficiency Type but not sure what to set in the last option of MPG 🤔

No problem - I used this comparison site to get an accurate rate www.globalpetrolprices.com/United-Kingdom/diesel_prices/ - no doubt you can run a search for other countries too.

Installed and Uninstalled it. Don't need all the analytical data or ability to download it. I was just looking for a way to use voice commands to open the trunk/frunk.

Yep- it’s overkill if that’s all you need. If you have an Apple Watch, get the ‘Apple Watch for Tesla App’. If you have a Mac, the Valet app. Both solutions will let you set up Siri Shortcuts and are a fixed cost.

I appreciate the video. I tried using the 30 day referral link. All it does it take me to the App Store to download the app, which I already have. It is not updating to the 30 day trial.

OK - had an answer back. Ad blockers can prevent referrals. If you click the referral link on your desktop you can get the free month there and it'll apply to your app too.

Sadly not as far as I’m aware. BUT If you’ve used another system like Teslascope, TeslaFi, TeslaScope, TezLab or TeslaMate, you can import the data from those platforms into Tessie whenever you want.

Great video, and it's shame that Tessie has developed way better app than Tesla's team. My biggest concern is how much Tessie is capable to prevent hackers from access their system and our vehicles. While I Tessie I hate to have another subscription, they are like that ignored tiny water leak in the roof. A decade or two from subscriptions will be eating most of our paychecks and we will be wondering why we are not able to make ends meet.

I worry about unofficial Tesla apps, some were tested by hackers and found to have weaknesses. At least with Tesla's own app if it were ever hacked it'd be down to Tesla to take responsibility

I know what you mean. There are inherent risks when you open up an API to any smart device. I had a good read through the developer’s privacy policy and have also been in direct contact with them following this video being posted and I’m happy with their assurances re security. In terms of worst case scenario I wouldn’t be too worried about my account being hacked via an API. I use a ‘burner’ email and temporary card details for almost everything these days so if one point fails it theoretically shouldn’t effect anything else. Ultimately, for me the advantages of using this app far outweigh the risks, but fully understand if others are more concerned about this type of thing.

Relative to the cost of the car and taking into account the savings made from switching to an EV I think it’s pretty good value. But then I am a massive stats geek! The widget/automation set-up alone is worth it for me.

Fair enough- I am a massive nerd about this stuff so it’s fair to say not everyone would be interested in this kind of granularity. Worth mentioning that since making this video Tesla have updated their official app to show charge stats- it’s very simple and not at all accurate based on what I’ve seen so far.

5:19 haha, the reason you lost 10 miles overnight was because Tessie was using your car battery and never let it sleep. "I think it is kind of scary, but good to know". Yeah, and if you uninstall Tessie you will never loose those 10 miles in the first place:) This is a b...app.

Incorrect. If you look at the graph you’ll see those 10miles were lost after the car went into overdrive trying to bring the climate up prior to driving off that morning (this was late January in the UK so likely sub zero temperatures). The battery stayed pretty much on a level all night prior to the HVAC kicking in.
