Great advice thanks. I want to add effects to my trumpet and this video is just what I needed to find my way in the pedals jungle!

You have a great natural tone too! How are you getting signal to your pedals? Do you use a particular preamp when you’re playing live?
@studbagl

Thank you! I have 2 ways I do it. In this video I am using a Shure SM-57 with a transformer (I think the Shure A85F) to convert it from XLR to 1/4 inch without losing signal. I also use the zoom h2n as a microphone sometimes too.

Hey man, just wanted to ask what microphone would be best to work with these pedals? anything in mind? I do wanna use the same mic if I were to play trumpet or flute. it just makes sense do just move it around. Thanks btw. I think im gonna get the same pedals. I just need a good mic to work with.

There are a few different mics that I use; in this video I am using the Shure SM57. It's as standard as it comes and is a great mic for many different uses. In order for it to plug into pedals you either need some sort of preamp like the Eventide Mixing Link or, as I am using in this video, the Shure Transformer A85F. Preamps are expensive and if you are just getting into it, the A85F is a cheap alternative to start with. Basically, it converts your xlr cable (which mics use) into a 1/4 inch cable (which pedals use). I made another video called "How to get into effects pedals" that explains this whole process if you wish to check that out. The other mic I use is the Zoom H2n. The reason I sometimes use this is for when I want both a real piano and saxophone to go into the pedals. This mic can pick up a lot from multiple directions but is mostly good for doing headphones recordings as otherwise it would get a lot of feedback from speakers.

@@studbagl shit, thanks for explaining it very well. How will it work if you to plug to a wireless mic?
@studbagl
@studbagl 8 месяцев назад
I haven't tried so I can't really answer. As long as your wireless mic can connect to the pedals, probably with the use of some sort of receiver that has an adapter to connect to the pedals depending on what kind of cables the receiver's output would be (could be 3.5mm, 1/4in, xlr, etc)@@ReflectionsandRevelations

Studbagl, thanks for your demonstration. As I was inspired by you video's about the Hedra, I also bought this EQ Avalanche. How do you activate the ratio knob? I think I have to push the tap tempo button, but unfortunately... no succes. And did you connect the EQ avalanche with the expression pedal? Can you change the functions on and off, or can you select special settings? Sorry, lots of questions again 😏
@studbagl
@studbagl 8 месяцев назад
The ratio knob sets the division of the delay taps. For example, if your ratio knob is set 1/1, then each delay will sync with time knob/tap tempo and will play quarter notes. You can see this because the delays will match the blinking light. If you set it to 1/2, then the delays will function as eighth notes to the tempo (2 notes per blinking light), so on and so forth. I have connected it before and I found that it's most "practical" on the decay knob or the time knob and then you can do some really whacky stuff. I recommend checking out an Earthquaker Devices video where they talk about 5 weird things the Avalanche Run can do; it really opens up the possibilities.

@marieke4521 8 месяцев назад
@@studbaglthanks for your explanation. I understand it. Bur nothing happens when I push the tap button twice and turn the ratio. I’ve seen a recent posted video where they show this function, should be easy.. but nothing happens. Too bad. All other function work nicely!!

I see some people using the reverb harmony effects, on vocal effects pedals, as opposed to an instrument reverb and octave pedal combination. Is one better than the other?
@studbagl
@studbagl 21 день назад
@@0713mas I cannot answer that accurately because I haven’t tried vocal-targeted effects pedals. I have always leaned into instrument pedals because I use them for my synths/keyboards as well and I like all the different things they can do. I imagine one might be better than the other depending on what you are specifically looking for.

@studbagl Ty! I saw a few videos using the Boss VE-20, good. I am a guitar player singer-songwriter looper. I have successfully used my bamboo sax with my VLP GTX but it's kinda hit or miss as far as tone goes. My Son is a saxophonist, and we tested out his alto on my rig. I have come to the conclusion that the range is sometimes not complete to accommodate a tenors higher register.

Hello well done for all your advice, it’s really cool a little question how to connect the expression pedal how is the signal chain thank you very much remi
@studbagl
@studbagl 6 месяцев назад
To connect expression pedal for expression capabilities, you must have a TRS cable connected to the expression jack on the pedal. If you are using your expression as a volume pedal (if it has that capability like the Dunlop one has) you can connect a standard TS 1/4 in cable

I don’t like to rely on battery power for pedals however the few times I do, I don’t use typical batteries as they aren’t compatible with my pedals. Instead, I use an external battery (like ones that people use for charging phones on the go) and the hook it up to pedal using a special cable that converts to 9V.

Hi! These pedals aren't in my country, do you have another option for both of them? ty
@studbagl
@studbagl 7 месяцев назад
Hmm, that's something I haven't had to encounter yet. I don't know what substitutions would be available for you. But basically, I would say look for a pitch shifting pedal for first, and then a delay/reverb for the second.

I need your advice....i have a bunch of delay and reverb pedals....the dispatch master, afterneath, earthquaker devices transmisser. How do i hook up my saxophone to my audio interface to my pedals using my plug socket for multiple pedals into my laptop into logic pro x for recording? I would really appreciate it if you could help me out with that.
@studbagl
@studbagl Год назад
The way that I do follows this signal chain: Saxophone - Microphone - pedals - audio interface - recording software The pedals connect to audio interface (usually with 1/4 inch cables), then the audio interface syncs with Logic Pro x. Make sure that your audio interface is connected within Logic Pro so that Logic Pro is receiving the saxophone/pedal audio. My personal audio interface is the scarlet 2i2
