I use Izotope RX and its LRA measurements in order not to fool my self with loudness while I may be ruining the dynamics. It is much easier and precise than just relying on the ears and the reference track.

The reference track is the unmastered track so I’m listening to the changes and not having the level getting in the way is the game changer

@@Streaky_com so check my trick maybe it is helpful but still it will be hard for you as you dig deeper into the spectrum but It worked for me when I make subtle changes. I raise loudness while preserving dynamics. It was quite a miracle when I discovered how. It only decreases dynamics a little.

Yes as it auto matches the levels you have to keep clicking the match button in AB

I am surprised that he pick this one over Metric AB, I have this one also. But Metric A/B has great Spectrum graph that if you set to average peaks, slow down peak time and set to dual you can get a better visualization of what the reference looks like compared. Learned this from Luca Pretolesi in our 1 on 1 mixing sessions in Las Vegas. Just hit the match button because whether there is an 'auto gain' or 'hit button to gain match' we might still have to adjust this levels. Love your channel btw Streaky.

I prefer meterplugs perception plugin. Place the source plugin at the start of your mastering chain, and the control plugin at the end, then you can level match reference between the unmastered and the mastered version in one channel. It compensates for latency too. Great plugin.

There is this little add on that comes with Reference called REFSEND which you place as your first plugin, on top of your chain before your processing and Reference as your last plugin and voila. No need of routing.. same thing but kinda faster and easier no?

So it gain matches the mastered version down? Otherwise the original will clip going up right? Because you would have done peak control on the mastered one right.

Nothing is perfect I normally gain the reference channel down before the plugin

@Streaky_com ok so yeah that sounds like your compensating for the ref tracks un controlled peaks so then the master will be brought down by the plugin

Plugins like this is why I use Bitwig. It can do this so easily, right in the daw. Actually Bitwig makes a lot of plugins obsolete, and improve others by giving them new functionality.

Maybe but I don't think Ozone AUTO gain-matches. Even so, Ozone is $200 (for Standard) and is meant to be a dynamics tool first. This plugin is $57 and just does this job specifically. That could be quite useful to a lot of ppl, especially those who prefer to use *ahem* better plugins than Ozone for mastering 😎

Oh and just an info for you, I gess most people watching this are young producers trying to finish there tracks, and you are or were a mixing/mastering ingineer. If something doesn't sound good on my track I'm open to change the sound design of any element, but you act like someone who receives the whole thing done. It's still usefull knowledge tho, and uhmmm.... no actually i'm dumb as hell don't change anything 😂 Ps : I want to know more about stereo imaging, little specific tips to control the left right balance and avoid common mistakes. Thanks ❤️‍🔥
