@@illuminati_kid before Atreus was born, he already had been 200 years in the Norse Realm. 150 years he was alone, then Faye met him and after 50 years of being together, they had Atreus. He had plenty of time to learn the language, even if we just count these 50 years of him being with Faye.
If kratos feels he can answer with one word then one word is all you’ll get from him but at the same time that one word can express a lot like his “no” to Odins deal which I feel is part because he knows Odin will stab him in the back, partly because kratos doesn’t want to make another deal with a god and some other stuff too
@@joshuarobinson6011 To my recollection, he expands on it. The moment Odin offered to deal with Freya was the moement any deal with him became impossible to Kratos apparently. He will not betray her, as in his eyes she helped him multiple times and in return he has hurt her an unfathomable amount when he saved her life by killing her son and as such he won't make deals with someone who offers to harm her. Also might be he doesn't trust most Gods and can detect Odin's manipulative behavior.

It was like : YES ! Because imo Thor is literally the same as young Kratos. They were both inslaved and they spent lifetimes killing innocents under the service of other gods( thor under the service of Odin and Kratos under the service of Ares and Athena ) . And bc they refused to make their own choices, they both killed their own kind. ( Thor killing the giants and kratos killing his family and getting Sparta destroyed by Zeus ). In the last scene of their fight, Kratos wasn't just talking to thor, he was talking to a similar version of his younger self.

I feel that he would interpret that as the toddler trying to spar instead of kill him, though its still funny imagining Kratos throwing a toddler at the wall, then criticizing how its swing was too wide.

The thing is, it's one of my most favorite things about him because this is how Spartans talked. They would send back one word messages to literal war declarations because they spoke plain and simple.

arguably kratos says no becuase he knows that odin is lying. i think if kratos honestly thought that peace was possible, he'd say yes, but he's not going to accept a false peace just so that he can get stabbed in the back
@@delphy2478that and according to codex, Kratos was seriously considering taking the deal until Odin mentioned keeping Freya off his back. Even in spite of Freya targeting him out of revenge for killing Baldur, he wishes no harm to come to her because he’s forever grateful for her saving Atreus.
Kratos saying he never wonders if he's doing the right thing is either extremely prideful, or oddly comforting that he knows his morals and goals so well.
Young Kratos was definitely extremely prideful, but old Kratos is sure and confident in his actions because of the consequences of his actions when he was younger.
He knows that everything he does now is to protect the ones he loves, so the ends justify the means. He even tries to tell Thor that revenge is old news
Kratos literally starts the original series with haunting nightmares of himself killing his own family, and he doesn't ever wonder if he's doing the right thing? Even ignoring all the OTHER messed shit he did, if he said "no" to that question, I can't tell if he's lying, or is genuinely too prideful and arrogant to possibly think he did something wrong.
The fact that Atreus both asks if he’ll ever have muscles like Kratos and a beard like Kratos is so funny and cute to me like he really wants to be his dad
I just heard one on my play through today. I found a pipe and mimir explained that people use it to “smoke plants and relax”. When Atreus asked if he could use it, Kratos and Mimir both immediately said no together. It was beautiful

He has a very different answer in regards to his physique. Atreus asks if he'll have muscles like Kratos, and he replies that although he's strong just because he's a god, he looks the part because he pushes his body anyway. So he definitely is open to giving more than yes or no on matters of appearance. Maybe it isn't as important to him? Or maybe Kratos is just planning on never shaving, rendering Atreus incapable of catching up lmaoo
In Alfheim you can collect an artifact and Kratos says, "it's a pipe", and Atreus asks what it's for, and Mimir says people use it to smoke leaves to calm down, and then Atreus asks if he can try it, and immediately and simultaneously, both Mimir and Kratos say NO!.

I have an extreme distaste for high pitched sounds and changing the time of day was horrible for me. It was worth it though. If you do it a few times in row you get a conversation with Loki. He asks Kratos why changed he time again and Kratos says he wanted to see the wolves again. It's pretty wholesome.
Atreus secretly wanting a beard like his dad's is hilarious to me. And Kratos straight up thinking Atreus is too much of a twink to grow one is even funnier.
I feel like in his dad mind he was like "No yours will be better" but then he went all awkward cuz most of his life all he knew was how to kill, maim, destroy and occasionally fuck, so his asocial soul stopped at "no".

I got that "maybe we take a stealthy approach" line after getting beat down by a side boss. So I listened to hear if mimir meant we could take it down stealthy, just to hear kratos say no
"Well, there ya have it lad" mimir's wit even when dumbed down for kratos is so perfect as a contrast to him. I love how sometimes he just sounds fed up. Mimir is one of the smartest decisions ive ever seen in gaming. And ive been around for the majority of gamings life span.
Well yes, for him it is not immoral to kill someone trying to kill you, doesn't mean he do not think of what person he is fighting or if he has to kill them, juste that if they tried and he kill them, then there is nothing wrong.
I hate that. Kratos would be a terrible person to chat with just for that alone. And I bet one could only chat with him personally. No way he'd have social media... or maybe, even, a phone.

Probably one of the reasons (other than being a hilarious badass) he speaks so short is because spartan warriors we taught to speak and respond in short to the point responses. If this is intentional I think it’s an amazing attention to detail
I mean in the original games he was an expositional talking machine though (other than a killing machine as well) he would go on and on with full dialogue exchanges I always thought that it was because he’s not speaking in his native tongue and he is speaking in Norse rather than Greek so that’s why he doesn’t talk much
If I remember my history right, they were also smartasses. A ruler of someplace sent a letter asking if they can be allies only for the response to just be “no”. The ruler then sent a letter saying “if I reach Sparta, I will raze it to the ground” the leader of Sparta’s only response was “if”.

@Masterprocrastinator223 reminder that the ruler you're talking about was the dad of Alexander the Great, Philip II of Macedon, and he did indeed come to Sparta- razed its grounds- and conquered it. There is no modern day Sparta. Still a legendary laconic phrase, but only because we've all been sold on Spartan propaganda for the past 2 millennium. Case in point: Kratos, also known as "If Sparta's bluffs were real."
These answers are all very Kratos, but also all very fatherly. The beard thing is how he'd probably prefer his son not grow up too fast and how he'd rather Atreus resemble Faye over himself. Denying stealth is to keep Atreus honorable. He probably does doubt himself sometimes, but he has to be a stable presence for his son so he says no. And he says yes to the self defense question, even though we see him do the opposite with Freya. He says yes because Atreus needs to defend himself and live at all cost, even if that means killing good people because Atreus matters more to him than morals.
I think he genuinely doesn't care if he's doing the right thing. It's only about what is right in the moment even if history would disagree. He lives by ask for forgiveness, not permission rules.
I also feel like Artreus will be a Heimdall of some sort. He’s not as strong as the rest but makes up for it in abilities and deception. His confidence however…
I like the pauses before he replies no sometimes implying he's giving some of the stuff some thought and the ones he replies instantly he's just sure of instead.
There's actually a reason for Kratos' short responses. In Ancient Greece, Spartans were known to use few and simple words in their speech, aiming for their communication to be as short and efficient as possible, without excess. The greek word "laconic" means "someone who uses few and simple words to communicate", and it stems from the word "Laconia", which was and is the wider area that includes and surrounds Sparta till this day.
It really shows how much we love Kratos and how good the game and character is to be so entertained and thinking so much just from Kratos saying no and yes
