@luxinvictus9018
@luxinvictus9018 2 месяца назад
The first game literally begins with him jumping off a cliff because he couldn't live with his failures and felt abandoned by the gods. That depth of character was there literally from the beginning. A lot of people mistakenly think it was added retroactively in the 2nd and 3rd game. But no, Kratos was always deep. He was a loving father and husband who lost his family, a great leader who lost his men, and a devout believer who lost his faith. So all he had left was hate, and that led him to power. Now he uses that power to protect others from his fate. The writing for this game is down right legendary. Games in the mid to late 2000s were written like philosophical treatises and classical epics.
@mistertwister2000
@mistertwister2000 Месяц назад
@@luxinvictus9018And yet the original creator of Kratos can’t understand this. He was trying to create a mindless killing machine and instead made a character with so much depth to explore, and now he complains about it.
@mr.goblin6039

@@mistertwister2000I will never understand how that man created Kratos. The depth, the pathos, everything that makes a character A CHARACTER, and the dude went “nah, that was never my intent. Kratos shouldn’t be more than a dude who kills indiscriminately”. WHY WRITE HIM IN A SOMEWHAT TRAGIC AND SYMPATHETIC WAY THEN!? Why make obvious allusions and comparisons to Greek tragedies and the flaws of Greek heroes, just to then claim none of that shit was intentional!? It pissed me off so much. I now understand how Evangelion fans felt when the writers and Anno said the Christian imagery was all for show and they didn’t do anything research into religious symbolism and lore.
@ShigmaChannel
@ShigmaChannel 20 дней назад
@@mr.goblin6039 Yeah, it's stupid. Kratos was so much more then, and thats why we love him. I never thought he was a dull character. Disney's Hercules is a simple character. Kratos is not. Even if it was by mistake. Dude had a lot going for him, and even if he acted like a maniac he was kinda pushed into it. Even if he was a major asshole, you could understand him most of the time. My man only wanted to sleep at nights, to the point he even tried to kill himself and even that was denied from him. I would kill everyone around me too.
@TheCrazyfighter19
@TheCrazyfighter19 8 дней назад
@mr.goblin6039 you can still have all that stuff and make him just a ruthless killing machine. That's why he's the way he is. The new games went the easy way with making him regretful for people to feel for kratos without making him a monster. But that was the brilliance of the original games. Although he was a ruthless "monster" people still loved him.

They have all had a hand in helping Kratos recover and repair his fragmented sanity. They helped to heal him, and helped him to become the man he is now....the man who can look at his past and accept the harm that he had caused, but also to recognize that he is no longer that man....that he has changed for the better. That he *can* be better. Without them....without Faye, Kratos most likely would still be the angry, bitter, pained, and bitter man that he used to be. His redemption is thanks to them being a part of his life.

Tricked? Ya but more so he was being tested and he failed. Sigrun gave them a warning where she basically said that if they don’t learn what Valhalla is *trying* to teach them, it will not play. It will *make you* learn the lesson. The sacrifice cage is from the first game where Kratos basically used a complete strangers life, as a key to a door. Valhalla essentially gave him the same scenario, and made him see Helios instead of Mimir. Someone who he doesn’t like, but at the same time doesn’t hate, and knows he did kinda dirty. But unfortunately, he didn’t even hesitate to do it again. So, Valhalla basically did a ‘your own actions will be punishment enough’ sorta thing. That’s why when he sacrificed himself instead of hastily, throwing another life away, it let him pass. They’re pretty lucky Valhalla seems to be a little forgiving.

This is what Carl Jung, the most known psychiatrist and psychologist of the twentieth meant by incorporating your shadow. If you are able to, then you will become whole. A reflection of society; few are taught and fewer knows. Your shadow is you, rejecting yourself would further lead to chaos. This is my personal opinion; religion failed massively and still continues to fail across the globe to communicate fundamental understanding of oneself. It's not black or white, but grey. These stories are meant to provide mythical representations of the understanding of humanity as it arises from the ages. Shame and sad many will not be able to connect the two. And by no fault of their own, but one of the many character faults of humanity, willful ignorance where many accepts because it is easy... To each and their own. Demise that is.

2:43 I absolutely love that it's only when he recalls Pandora's words to him that he reaches a turning point. Before Freya, before Mirnir, before Atreus, and even before Faye, there was someone else who was able to speak to the humanity within Kratos, hidden under all the rage and pain; and that was Pandora. It's been hundreds of years since the destruction of the Greek Pantheon, but Kratos still remembers her last words to him. That's beautiful, man.

I like to think he still feels bad for letting Pandora 'die' after all this time. Sure, Pandora was meant to sacrifice herself anyway, but the fact that Kratos 'killed' her because he let his anger got better of him most likely why he was hurt by her death. Also, Kratos letting Pandora go so he could punch Zeus in the face is the last time he completely gave himself to his rage, making her the last victim of his anger. Zeus? At that point, killing Zeus was more like a mercy killing more than anything.

Young Kratos' body language is so subtle, yet it says so much. When Kratos enters, he's tired, and bored, and hollow. His throne has given him nothing and taken everything, and he's unimpressed by the man he will eventually become as he's lectured. He's young and arrogant, and doesn't believe he needs to hear what he's being told, like a petulant teenager. When Kratos approaches him and begins to chastise him, his lip curls and he sits up, staring Kratos down, and it even gives Kratos pause. When Kratos begins to scold his past self for his decisions, he sets his jaw and stares right through Kratos, totally unimpressed as Kratos realizes that they were still his decisions, no matter how much he's changed. After Kratos realizes that he needs to accept his past and forgive himself, we can't see what Young Kratos does. It's easy to believe that he merely disappeared off screen, but honestly? I'd like to imagine he got sick of Kratos monologuing and simply got up and walked away to sulk somewhere else.

You know the sad part is that kratos did all his cruel things in the Greek mythology because he lost his family. He had no reason to live and he was cursed to always have those nightmares because of that massacre. It’s funny that all this destruction wouldn’t have happened if that cruel god of war never tricked him to do that. I think if kratos had the choice between having his godly powers or having his family back, he would have chosen the latter. This goes so hard especially when you've really grown up with God of War as a series. When I was little I genuinely understood Kratos and was with him and either felt like he was doing the right thing or I just didn't care. I felt every bit of anger he felt and more, which put me in the same mindset. I grew up a little and after the first Norse game I realized I developed alongside Kratos and after a while of working out my own issues and thinking about my relationship to these games I think I've grown. I'm a less angry person for it and I've stopped being sorry and have just started getting better. Besides having TC Carson or even Kory Balrog (doing an impression) as young Kratos this scene could not have been better fan service or tribute to his character.

“Should I lose everything and everyone will there still be enough left inside so that I do not become you? I do not know. But I have hope” God this line gave me chills, I’m honestly still newer to the franchise but the WEIGHT behind this speech was so powerful. Atreus and Kratos bond is amazing to see sure but personally seeing Kratos journey of self discovery and realization/reflection has been the best part of these games to me. How truly accepting love back into his heart has changed him from the type of man who was cruel into somebody kind. When he ponders if he were to lose everything AGAIN what would happen, to me it’s already proving he’s changed. Even if it DID happen he’s grown and seen enough that he wouldn’t turn back into the monster he once was. He would never be able to live with himself if he did and it’s honestly been beautiful to see Kratos evolve EMOTIONALLY instead of JUST physically. The writing and acting that went into this entire ARC for him, using his NEW family to mirror his first and have characters like Freya and Thor reflect his past self on him have been phenomenal.

This DLC is basically the game reminding both Kratos and the players that although the Greek saga was violent, it wasn't because then-Kratos was a blind monster, but because he was hurt and broken. Both the community and Kratos himself are reminded that his past was not as black and white as they remember. It serves as a great character development for Kratos while also being meta as fuck by calling out the player's own revisionism of what happened in Greece.

He took lives without mercy, he used others without consideration for their lives. But he wasn't irredeemable, either. That dark part of him will ALWAYS be there. He will always be the God of War. @@akg1301 its a psychology technique centered around introspection, the idea is that there is an inner you kind of like your emotional subconcious, its takes the burden of your trauma and pain and selfish ideology but its like a child, it acts out when stressed or ignored and can lead you to doing things and you dont know why, to do shadow work is to connect and communicate with this shadow self and through this process heal trauma and reflect on yourself and your long held beliefs, there are alot of ways to go about this but in all ways its an uncomfortable process that can be pretty extreme.

I saw it as A young Spartan showing respect to the elderly. at his core Kratos is a Spartan General a Spartan Solider. he was raised in all the traditions and culture of Sparta. in Spartan Culture young Spartan boys were trained to love and respect the Elderly. Spartans took this so seriously that it was common practice for younger Spartan men to yield their seat or even give up the toilet to an older man, even when visiting another state or city. so, for me this is fitting to Kratos Character. even with all that Rage he would still not speak when an Older Spartan is Lecturing or talking to him.

@thepoweredgent
@thepoweredgent 4 месяца назад
On of the things I love is the evolution of his throne. His throne doesn't change, it is the same throne that he first took from Ares, and now it is the same throne he reclaims. However, after his affirmations of "You chose... I chose" followed by "You have always been more than what others saw", he clearly begins to accept himself for who he was and how he has grown, and after these realisations and acceptance of who he now is (no longer a target of self loathing) the throne is literally disarmed; the spears and corners have been broken off, broken down, lost from the artistry of its design. In this simplicity, in the throne's most rugged, honest, beaten, worn and aged form, Kratos actualises himself, and finds peace enough to once again take his seat upon it. We even see this metamorphosis in his mind as the camera pans around his head whilst he deliberates if he should take the throne, emulating his shifting ideation of himself. Truly beautiful cinematography, and a phenomenal effort from all involved in the choreography, direction, acting, score, everything

Ok the modern rendition of young Kratos look genuinely intimidating. Back then, yeah he also looks like he’s full of rage and all that, but you could still get the “protagonist” vibe when you look at him. But here he looks like a whole ass villain, man’s look like a fucking Sith Lord with those pairs of eyes lol He looks like he’s ready to bounce up any second from that throne and straight up give you a Mortal Kombat fatality.
