Hi there, Liron here!
Today I'll share with you my minimalistic approach to watercolor brushes!
I like to use 2 round brushes that have a great point, and sometimes a rigger brush.
Yep! That's all I really need.
In fact, many of my paintings are done with 1 brush only!
Here are the specific recommendations from the video:
1. For just getting started - Silver Black Velvet - this set on Amazon:
amzn.to/3h1gg5f
2. Escoda brushes
I absolutely love the Ultimo Sintetico (mop with a point) - amzn.to/3LOzjcT
3. Lebenzon Brushes - top quality bamboo grip watercolor brushes.

I still have been too intimidated to try any paintings larger than the size of my hand, some day my goal is to use the actual entire sheet of paper for one!

A water brush is a fantastic tool when you how to control. I do have da Vinci and Escoda brushes as well, but for quick watercolor, I love to use water brushes. I think I’ll make demonstrations with them.

Thanks Liron! Great video. This helped me tremendously. As a beginner it’s hard to figure out how to start with brushes. Great information. Really appreciate you!

Silver Black Velvet brushes are excellent, I wish they would have been around when I first started painting.

For 99% of my tasks I use natural squirrel round brushes 4 or 5 mm and 7 or 9 mm in diameter that hold a nice tip. I also use a synthetic flat for lifting details.

Some artists I watch, they have shelves of bottles of brushes, drawers of brushes which totally amazes me. So when I read the title on this, I quickly clicked on it. So curious to see the 2 brushes!? Gotta see this!

@@pupawupagus - same. I have quite a few, (but no where near as many as I have seen more serious artists have) by my reckoning but have about half a dozen that I use the most.

Liron... Please make a video whenever you play around with those Asian brushes. I bought mine from Henry Li of Blue Heron Arts & they're a lot of fun. I'm interested to see what you think of them. 🎨

I'd like to see that also--they're very interesting looking brushes. There are sets of them for sale on Amazon, made from various types of animal hair (if that's important to you) and fairly inexpensive....I'm tempted to get one or two just to try them. On the other hand--tomorrow is the delivery date for my first Lebenzon brush, I ordered a med. goat/synth. w/ bamboo handle--late Christmas gift for myself.

What do you think about having a couple cheap brushes for lifting so you don't wear out your good brushes?

I love them, I wish I could try them but in Mexico they don't sell these brands and shipping is high.

Do you have a recommendation for length of Lebenzon brushes to try? Most people suggest a 4 and an 8 or a 2 and a 6. I like your suggestion of a couple large brushes with good tips and one for small details / signing better and now want to upgrade to improve that.

How I wish my first water color teaching would have emphasized brushes and the best ones to use. I went down the rabbit hole for years and have way too many brushes. My favorite are silver black velvet and a set of squirrel mop set. I also use hake brushes for large washes. In total I use around 15 brushes and the other 50 are in their brush rollers.

Hi Liron! Uhm, quick question: at 8:58 of the 4 brushes shown, there are 2 which are Escoda Ultimo 14 but one is shown bigger than the other. I’m also only one cup of coffee into my morning so maybe I’m not seeing something obvious through my half-opened eyes. 😬

Hey Liron, I’m interested in buying the Lebenzon Rigger Brush. I took a look at their website and couldn’t figure out what diameter and bristle length you chose. Also, do you remember which handle material yours has? Thank you!

Hey apologies for the uber delay my friend 🙏 The one you refer to is the Small Brown Synthetic. I believe it's this one (the 1/2 inch) lebenzon-paintbrushes.com/brushes-with-brown-synthetic-bristles/

L, try a Chinese calligraphy brush but, with " wolf hair" or brown colored hair. The white, or goat hair is floppy and coarse.

What Michael Solovyev does with that "magic brush" is truly extraordinary. His story of how he came across that type of brush is very interesting.

These brushes are incredibly expensive for most countries because of shipping. To Australia, 1 Lebenzon brush costs $120AU. As a beginner, I was incredibly intimidated by this. So sadly, I stopped watching these reviews on these brushes because I would get so upset that I couldn't afford "The only 2 or 3 brushes I'll ever need". It has given me the mindset that good quality products were reserved for the wealthier artist or determined by location or RU-vid Channel subscriptions. What is a cheaper alternative for those on a very restricted budget but still want to get the same effects as more expensive brushes?

If you're a hobbyist like me it makes perfect sense to spend less money by buying synthetics. In fact, if it has good snap, a medium to medium-large round brush or quill might be the only brush you need for most paintings. My personal favorite is my Princeton Neptune synthetic quill, size 4. One of these days i hope to upgrade to a natural hair quill but in th end it's rly not necessary. Hope this helps
