The manufacturer machine beaded directly onto chiffon which left our hands tied.

I agree with you. If the dress was mine I think I would try belting somewhere between hip and underbust and blousson-ing it. Or do a Roman shade type treatment below the mid-thigh to take up the extra length. I'm just under 5'. I've shortened a lot of dresses.

I've been told that it's not that it can't be done, but that the hours involved would make it too costly. Layers and beading apparently take hours and hours to hem, generally causing the alteration cost to rise into "can't do it" territory for most brides.

A belt and letting the top half blouse over a smidge is all she really needed. It’d look very intentional with that dress too.

Couldn’t you fold it inwards along the line you would’ve cut and hem it that way so that the chiffon doesn’t fray? It’s hard to see if it would work without seeing the dress properly.

Stripper shoes would solve this w/o cutting or darting the dress :D
@iheartbridalcouture5989

I would have cut it off and moved it up. I have done these where I cut at least an inch then folded it down behind almost like doing an upholstery tack. Then hand stitch it back on after backing the apps so the original chiffon layer does not show through. Yes it will look like an appliqué but there’s really no recourse

I wore 3 inch heels so my dress didn’t have to be hemmed. Otherwise it would have been ridiculous to do. I realize that’s nothing for many people, but I don’t wear heels at all and they are hard to find in my size anyway.

What would you do if a bride asked her bridesmaids to have dresses made from shower curtains? Yes, I’m serious. 😐 For the rehearsal, we all decided to carry bathroom products - plungers, loofah sponges, baskets of washcloths,…. The groom and groomsmen thought it was funny; the bride was not amused!
@aoki556

I desire so much more context, what was the meaning behind it for her ? what was the print ? was it plasticky or that noisy *shukushuku* fabric ? was the style at least nice 💀?
@DottyGale8
@DottyGale8 Месяц назад
@@aoki556 She liked the print. Huge, “Laura Ashley” flowers. And, because we had to get them made, I had to find someone to do that. No seamstress would do it for me. Finally, the mother of the bride agreed to make mine. She wasn’t a good dress maker. And she had one HUGE flower right in the middle of my chest - an area that didn’t need accentuated in me. And it was about 4 sizes too large for me. It had a huge butt-bow, so we tried to gather a such of the extra fabric as possible behind it to have it kind of look like it fit. But it was hideous.

@@MM-jf1me That’s the problem, she did think it through. She thought it was a great idea - had her bridesmaids in a floral pattern that she liked. What a strangely cut dress. I'm chonky/flat chested/short, the trifecta of fit doom, and I'm forced to wear muumuus sometimes because that's what just what stores offer for plus size formal wear. I frequently have issues with oversized bust gapping on shirts and dresses, and and having to hem everything I buy. I empathize with anyone at any size having struggled with off-the-rack fit, but this seems really bad for someone as fit and seemingly standard-sized as this person. Are wedding dresses always sized this strangely? Is it industry standard, to accommodate future tailoring? I'm not married so I have no clue.
