The manufacturer machine beaded directly onto chiffon which left our hands tied.

Machine beading on chiffon is basically like saying “you’re gonna take this dress off the rack and you’re gonna like it the way it is” 😂

@KatieCottingham
@KatieCottingham Месяц назад
Really? It's a very old technique you'll find in many extant examples across a the past 200-300 years. Many times additional fabric would be added in a way on the skirt to allow for an alteration along that scalloped style line. This could be to allow for growth, pregnancy, or even passing a dress along to someone whose size or height didn't perfectly match. It's a true wonder how the tailors of the past made dresses that could be adjusted in so many ways, given it made them more money to make something new for a season. Btw, "tailor" was originally the term for women making clothing for predominantly women clientele but when men decided they wanted that career path too, women responded with the term "mantua maker" to very explicitly denote the making of women's clothing.

I agree with you. If the dress was mine I think I would try belting somewhere between hip and underbust and blousson-ing it. Or do a Roman shade type treatment below the mid-thigh to take up the extra length. I'm just under 5'. I've shortened a lot of dresses.

What would you do if a bride asked her bridesmaids to have dresses made from shower curtains? Yes, I’m serious. 😐 For the rehearsal, we all decided to carry bathroom products - plungers, loofah sponges, baskets of washcloths,…. The groom and groomsmen thought it was funny; the bride was not amused!

@@aoki556 She liked the print. Huge, “Laura Ashley” flowers. And, because we had to get them made, I had to find someone to do that. No seamstress would do it for me. And it was about 4 sizes too large for me. It had a huge butt-bow, so we tried to gather a such of the extra fabric as possible behind it to have it kind of look like it fit. But it was hideous.

What a strangely cut dress. I'm chonky/flat chested/short, the trifecta of fit doom, and I'm forced to wear muumuus sometimes because that's what just what stores offer for plus size formal wear. I frequently have issues with oversized bust gapping on shirts and dresses, and and having to hem everything I buy. I empathize with anyone at any size having struggled with off-the-rack fit, but this seems really bad for someone as fit and seemingly standard-sized as this person. Are wedding dresses always sized this strangely? Is it industry standard, to accommodate future tailoring? I'm not married so I have no clue.
@LP-ct9nk
@LP-ct9nk 2 месяца назад
Wedding dress sizing is smaller than the average street sizing because wedding dresses use the sewing patterns/size guide of old before everything moved to vanity sizing. That being said this is a case of somebody choosing this style for whatever reason (probably doesn’t dress up often) and the dress having design features that is not conducive to major alterations. The original designers probs thought it was no big deal as the expected the buyer to wear heels anyway
