On another note, it's funny that we've come so far graphically and in terms of horsepower that you can make a FMV-style first person adventure game but just... do it in real-time and basically just emulate the locked camera movements to give the same effect.
The mention of "Too Many Cooks" makes the inspiration of this game pretty clear. It's got a pretty good Alan Resnick vibe to begin with, so this isn't a surprise. Adult Swim Infomercials ahoy!
It's definitely inspired by the point and click house tour website that was connected to unedited footage of a bear, which was super cool, so it's a great place to take inspiration from.
@@KaiserMattTygore927 Imagine staying up all night, putting things in box, tapping them shut, then putting them onto a truck, only to find out you’re moving to a haunted murder house in the morning…
For the start, I think half of that stuff was cooperate and science jargon for the sake of making the product sound impressive despite the guys who (in universe) made it having no idea what it means.
Half way through the watch it feels like an ARG in game hacked realty website app. The following blood bath proved it clearly wasn't an ad. I do like the idea of donating cheap thumb drives with a realty sticker on them to a thrift store with this loaded up 😀
I am about 12 minutes into the video and now I am very worried about what is about to happen seeing you describe a blood bath. Also I agree and very much advise you to do that
the guy(?) in the laundry room closet is still one of my favorite subtle scares in an indie horror. feel like you don't see a lot of those in indie horror titles, or at least not if you're not looking in the right places. I was wondering if it would startle you too!
I remember that when I was a child, I used to "play" a lot in Microsoft Encarta, there was a virtual tour to different parts of the world, like the coliseum or an Egyptian temple and I used to think there was something following me, it gave me a really scary feeling. I really hope someone makes a game about that
I think having VERY limited control over the camera increases the spook factor by a lot... And I mean A LOT. Maybe too much. I wanted to give up even watching this video multiple times, phew.
before this i watched 2 other people play through this, and i thought of this game as just "tuber material" watching this with someone not cracking jokes every 30 seconds, playing it as they would by themselves and trying to analyse how & why it's been made, has made it genuinely spooky. also helped a bit that the game got a slight graphics update, & that does mean OTHER stuff could've been added (nothing was added)
This is definitely on my top 5 fav horror games so I love watching people play it. I love horror games that start off as a normal concept then you start to notice the environment around you changing.
this is so fucking cool! i love how there’s so many ways to interpret what’s going on, at least from my view. the real estate agent is actually that red demon thing, which is an eldritch demon beyond our comprehension
HAH, i remember playing this before! when i got my first “scare” with (uh, spoilers for you all scrolling the comments) the real estate agent with all of those stitches and X’d out eyes, i laughed! it was so over the top!
Oh, I suggested this one! I'm so happy to see you played it! This was one of those games that put all of its quality into the concept and execution itself, and leveraged the lower quality elements in a way that actually worked to its advantage, which inspired me a lot when I played it. 😄
I would absolutely love to see Librarian play the Watson Scott test. That is one of the only games that has genuinely scared me same goes for Simulacra which is another game I would like to see him play
I had an old game i used to play in 2017 or 18 in my Phone with the same house model that i've explored. The old game i played is Saori Sato which is an anime supervisor game. I can't believe the game you've played was made in Unity engine. And oh man, the game itself looks so amazing! this is a very high-tech idea for somebody. I somehow wonder that you should inspect the house briefly or ask someone who knows the house so it might gave you a valuable information
Yeah, if I remember right this game was from like, a game jam where all the games used this same unity house asset. I could be totally wrong but that's what I remember hearing
I loooove this game since it came out. It's so creative. Haven't watched the whole video yet but I'm curious if he noticed the man in the reflection on 5:38. A cool detail.
One of my favourite videos on your channel purely because of how unique the concept is. The shift into dread is so perceptually invasive, it forces our brains to personify the force
I remember seeing this one initially in a vinesauce stream, there was another excellent game he had played about destroying mimic office furniture in an office, I'll have to search for the name of that one. Has a pretty heavy twist from what I remember, but has a super creepy ambience to it!
Perfect something or other I think. Perfect Parasite? Perfect Invader? Something along those lines. Edit: Found it, Perfect Vermin? Found a video sounding similar from manly.
@@randomcanadian6298 yeah, that was it! what a delightful little game. uh, maybe not exactly delightful, but it'd make a damn good [spoiler redacted] PSA at least.
Hello Mr. Librarian, I’ve been trying to get into your discord to recommend some games but I can’t, so I guess I’ll just tell you here. The game is called off peak. It has a few sequels and spin offs. The game has a cool chill vibe with some sick ass music. It really fits that “comfy cozy” feel and the sequels expand on that odd dream feel infinitely. Plus off peak is free. I love your videos bro! Please consider playing it.
Are you thinking of 'creepy and comfy'? although Librarian does always seem to have a fondness for just plain comfy/cozy whenever he sees old wooden lodges with fireplaces, or furniture in secluded places lol.
@@Sam-go3mb kind of? It does have eerie elements sometimes in the empty parts of the later games, but I think what I meant to say was more of an other worldly comfort, as in taking comfort in the recognizable in the unrecognizable, if that makes any sense at all.
I'm home alone and I just heard something fall in the other room... Yeah, uh... Well, while I'm still alive, I like this game's subtlety and style, I'm a real sucker for horror games that do the horror in a quiet, almost disregarding way, where things are slowly getting worse but it still tries to act normal. No jumpscares, no big scary things, just unnerving stuff. Also loved the commentary in this one, get in Disability for dropping your UI lmao
But like, imagine circling that corridor and ending up reaching the center only to be force to see yourself looking at your computer at the site, then the camera blinks and you turn around to see this thing you thought was a drone in your home. Then the game ends with zero explanation.
I just want to say that I love your channel and I hope you never stop making content the way you do. I love your explanations of things, your relaying of memories or stories, and express how things make you feel in such an interesting light. Never change. Also, love your voice! ♥
oh hell yeah, i'm so glad you played this! i've been watching your channel for a little while now and this is my favorite horror game! can't wait to finish this video!
I KNOW THIS HOUSE, it was used in a game called ´´Paranormal Territory`` (or the paranormal territory used this house, I don't know), it's a very old game from 2014 for mobile, it's a very good game with one of the best graphics I've ever seen in a horror mobile game, you guys have to check it out. It made me nostalgic to see this house, but ok, very good.
That was neat, i'm with you on the smooth movement stuff too. I hope more horror game (and movie) creators to do more with movement like that. Really well set up for those payoffs.
Maybe I should take a bunch of photos in some house and place subtle creepy shit in then submit stuff to sites like zillow. Maybe get a movement online of people doing the same.
I hope The Librarian will check out that War of the Worlds game that's coming out soon. From what has been shown, it does a wonderful job of making you feel powerless. Not to mention being able to hide in houses, giving that comfy feeling. (That is until a Tripod probes the house.)
There's something sweetly ironic of the guy sayibg the custoner, you, are what matters, right after balantky going [CLIENT NAME] like a malfunctioning spam bot who failed to fill in the blanks with the relevant information
I played this last night while on the phone with my "friend" (wink wink) and literally started crying. I ADORE horror games but I get very, very uneasy and scared, this game tapped into that by a lot (he told me to stop playing these games). I just wanted to see someone else get scared at it, since this game was literally sooo good. Same with Make Sure It's Closed, even for being very, very short. Unfortunately I was unable to play Routine.
Yup i have seen this house used before in another unity game. Though a few things were changed...then again it might have been used from that game....but I know the houses used ate nearly the same
