Fascinating how the Surgeon General's report on smoking would be so openly alluded to by an actor introducing the awards. While one would have thought that movies would have begun a rapid decline in depicting characters who smoke once this report came out, the industry kept on making movies with cigarette smoking being featured predominantly.

This is what America was like back in the days when people got dressed up showed respect for talent and cared how they looked, acted and were seen in public. This ended after the 1980s. We have a world now where peopl especially the young couldn,t care less and that is beyond horrible absolutely !!!!!

They barely allowed black people in the room back then, so, I’d say we’re actually doing a bit better.

The first song played was 'The Star Spangled Banner'....I wonder when they stopped doing that?

I wonder why Ronald Reagan told me his tax cuts were going to trickle down in 1981, then they did not.

ABC did not become a color network until 1966. Looks as if this was a kinescope anyway.

Hard to believe, this was right after JFK was assassinated. Still joy in the celebs, but also sadness, because it hit Hollywood hard, when Kennedy was assassinated.

@annieg1812 but the Vietnam War hurt Johnson big time. Country wasn't the same, after JFK was Assassinated.

@@annieg1812 I got the timing wrong, but unfortunately my opinion remains the same for the 1965 Oscars.
