Take a look at Japanese cars. They have been doing this retro look for years. In the UK only the PT crusier and the crossfire, plus the VW Beetle are the few cars that hold the retro vibe. Maybe, the Fiat 500, ok the Mini....otherwise somewhat Euro boxes, or fake 4x4s
Who cares it is designed for women and etc, I want one! I would drive this thing for sure! It is so cute, yet pretty, and the interior is just so nice!
As a man confident in my masculinity, I would definitely drive one of these. I love the retro look and the embrace of the reality that not all cars are sports cars. Comfort and visibility over pretence of speed. Not sure about the pink interior though.
For a petite guy like me, this is perfect! I’m in love! They took the classic Beetle and brought it into the 21st Century. I’m impressed the Chinese designers pulled it off. It turned out the death of the New Beetle in 2019 was greatly exaggerated.
I mean, they're not wrong. The Beetle died when VW tried to "modernize" or make it too futuristic. This is a much better version of the Beetle that many people would love and oddly and funny enough, were made by the Chinese of all people.
I don’t care if this is designed for women or not, but I dig it a lot! I’d drive it and I’d enjoy cruising up and down the promenade in it. FWIW, I like the idea of goddess mode! Seems ideal for cruising with just one hand on the wheel.
I know this is the version tailored for women, but by God, I love it. I love the design, in and out, and the colors, and the fact that the technology looks both retro and understated. I’d actually love to own one of these.
I think this car is gorgeous. VW's refresh of the beetle was just off, and this one nails the look. I'd be tempted if it was available in a RHD version.
@@curtisducati Yeah, you're right. The real question is why VW didn't do this considering the huge popularity of the original. I care less about the gay looks than the fact that the Chinese ripped off the look.
@@curtisducati It looks less gay but more feminine. The difference between "gay" and "feminine" is that a lot of "gay" things tend to be try-hards in being feminine or just overly obnoxious. This just looks incredibly girly which is not a bad thing especially since this was indeed marketed for women. Hell, if given the chance and money, I'd definitely buy one for my wife and drive it around myself at times as well simply because of how fckknnn cute this damned thing is.
This vehicle looks from the outside so much more like the original VW Beetle than the New Beetle of the early 2000's. A smaller, budget oriented version with the same external shape would be a hit and really become the spiritual successor of the classic venerable beetle.
Honestly, people want VW to make a car like this, but they refuse to make it. So no one can blame the customers for choosing to buy a Chinese copy of something we wish existed. If I had the money, I would definitely buy the Punk Cat.
You are so right. VW blew it. I hope this cute little knock-off is a big success. I'd consider it, but I'm not holding my breath that it will ever be available in the U.S. The paternalism in marketing rubs me the wrong way though. I'm a female who still drives a stick (a 2002 Golf) and knows how to parallel park with inches to spare. I don't need help driving.
@@1985toyotacamry At least Ora Good Cat may still be viable. It's got the same drive train and is being sold in the UK. Also pretty fun looking and small and pratical for any tight roads.
@@johnsmith-cw3wo and do you think that Volkswagen will let a car that is similar to the Beetle will sold on their terf without consequences? Yes I love the car. However Volkswagen will sue this car maker to hell for copyright infringement if they sold it in the EU or the North America. Hence I said that.
Love it or hate it, at least they tried. Most car companies these days DGAF and do crazy things like touch-controller-air-vents (?!?), who needs that? Looks pretty well figured out, design-wise. We'll see what kind of cars these people actually make! :)
@@DanielGarfold such a car would have to be imported. To protect US companies, you can’t import anything newer than 25 years old. Companies like Toyota and Honda are US companies because not only do they have factories here, but corporate regional offices as well. The vehicle doesn’t have to be built here, they just need to have some sort of domestic stronghold. That said, if you can form a partnership with another company, you can import modern vehicles. Think 20th century Fiat, Daewoo, and such. You would have to have a large dealership network if you wanted to say sell a bunch of new British cars in the 60s, and even then, things got complicated, like they were driving the cars off the boat and onto the trains, when legally they were never allowed to be driven until sold to the consumer. …lots of little obnoxious regulations to prevent people from really ever wanting to do business here in the US… …look at the Suburu Brat. Why does it have those ridiculous seats in the back? Well, because it’s not a truck, it’s a 4 seater car. During the oil crisis, people wanted fuel efficient compact cars, but the US didn’t make any, so they would partner up with Japanese manufactures, and rebadge their cars as domestics. As long as the final assembly is in the US, it’s ok. But what it all comes down to is that a company would need to import a ton of these cars and get special permission for the US and state government to do so. So if you’re an individual enthusiast, you just have to wait 25 years, then import, and that whole process is still obnoxious.
i think its beautiful except for the headlights ang rear lights.....just make them round...or oval like he punk cat.....this ballet cat has the best body shape among the cats
The door for the charging plug opens very cool but it will break if you open the front door while charging. Shame. Cool car, love to see something different on the roads
The shape is great, it's looked should apply to men, women and the more gender fluid people we admit to having in the UK and Europe. Marketing a car at a gender is very 1940's but I suppose, so are the looks. If it gets a crazy price tag like the £30,000 sticker on a good cat / funky car in the UK, sales will be niche. At the right price, an ORA could be worth a gamble. For VW money, you can get a VW. I would love to see this on the UK roads. It needs to be cheaper than an MG for me to get one on my drive. Hopefully it will encourage someone to make and ID Bug.
I would personally LOVE to see a smaller two door version of this (sized more like an actual VW bug, around 4 meters in length) with less luxury gimmicks and a more affordable price range (like the Ora R1 Black Cat’s purpose). Of course, it should have more “neutral” trim that would appeal to both female and male drivers. It could have the round headlights from the Punk Cat and the Ballet Cat taillights . It would look like a late-60s early-70s bug. It doesn’t even need outrageous performance, it would be cool as a car focused on just taking you from A to B in style and an electric drive. But hey, that’s just me (a proud vintage Beetle owner) speaking .
This is the Canon EOS M of cars. That camera was designed and marketed specifically to women in Asian markets; they ignored that camera and the company lost millions. Hope this launch goes a little better lol
Agreed! If you like this, you'll probably love the Wuling Bingo and Baojun Yep (links below) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kFGXAycNKaU.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ahWm3zlDDGg.html
They should have cleaned the mess in the "frunk" and make room for some storage (cables etc.), but otherwise, I really do like it! What does VW say to this?
I must admit to being pleasantly surprised by the generally positive comments here regarding this car. There has been a lot of negativity in other places because a Chinese manufacturer had the audacity to try and replicate an iconic and classic car. I think this has been well executed, with a few questionable elements. The headlights, crystal trim and the info screens are very poorly executed. The Ora Punk Cat (Boys version) retains the crystal, but has round headlights and a more integrated dashboard, which makes for a generally nicer look.
If they've never had hairdresser cars in China before ...well they have now. The proportions of this thing make it obvious why VW never did a 4 door Beetle of any generation. Scarab Beetle.
