The originals was written in such a way it can be seen as a standalone. This is why the pilot is just basically that one TVD episode, but with different perspectives.

I mean tvd was a teen version and was still amazing, I would argue it had more moments that were painful because they focused on the acting and many scenes of smaller situations that were painful. Originals is more adult so ofc many are going to prefer it, the ending as well as well as one more moment is pretty much the time where the heart gets ripped out but otherwise it’s very packed and plot driven not as much a tear driver imo

I love the conversations between Elijah and Klaus in this episode, so great... When Klaus tells Elijah that he is a 'sentimental fool' and Elijah answers with "perhaps, but I've lasted this long in spite of it, haven't I?"; that has so many meanings for someone like Klaus, that hits hard... Because Klaus has convinced himself that feelings, or things like mercy, kindness, etc. are all weakness that better be suppressed or will get you killed; and with that sentence Elijah tells him that here he is, with all those feelings, without working hard to prove to himself and others that he is a monster, without all the things that Klaus praises as 'strength' like cruelty, violence, etc. and with all those things that Klaus considers mortal weaknesses, here Elijah is: Still standing, still strong and not only feared by others but also Respected.

I really like what they did with this episode. In TVD we already have something what could be called a pilot of TO, so here they told the story again, but using Elijah perpective to made it even more interesting. And it gave us another view on the what happened until now.

Marcel is such a fascinating character. You’ll learn a lot more about him, he’s super complex. I think he’s actually my favorite character of this whole series.

Might be crazy but Marcel is my fave and then Klaus in this show. Many prefer the originals but that’s because the show is adult and the writers learned a thing from Tvd. I think both are quite equally good but focus on different things.

The Originals is a far far superior show. It's genuinely one of the best shows I've seen. You don't even need to have watched TVD to start it, though it does help with the Easter eggs and character comebacks.

HELL YES LET'S GO! I haven't done a single rewatch of The Originals since it ended (I have no idea why, wild to think about tbh because I love this show so much but I guess I didn't have the time, until now) so this is going to be EPIC. Because they wanted to attract a new audience (and also because TO is from Elijah's POV and not Klaus'), they had to reshoot the pilot. So, they reused shots from the backdoor pilot of TVD and added new scenes. The main things that come to mind when comparing TVD to TO is the city (obviously), the atmosphere (which is darker) and the cinematography (it's shot differently). And don't even get me started on the characters and their values!

Yeah, The actor that plays Elijah was on another show at the same time as this. As a main character. So I think thats why that happened at the end so he could go and film more on the other show. I think the show was called saving hope?

I don't know if this is unpopular or not, but I'm way more excited for Jeremy to see the dynamic between the mikaelson siblings (Klaus and Elijah in particular) than I was for Defan. The Mikaelson's just do it differently. This show is miles better in writing than TVD and I cannot wait for his reactions

The Originals just hits different ❤️ TVD has special place in my heart and I love it, but despite the fact that both shows are about vampires and some of the characters are the same - TO is way more mature and dark. It's hard to compare TVD and TO in my opinion or choose which one is better.
