That's a good point I have never thought about... Man I feel stupid for not picking up on that. If there are no mortals to offer up negative spiritual energy then do they just stop getting more powerful or do they slowly die? Or do all the followers keep it alive?

Exactly. I think a more contemporary way of looking at it is that humanity attracted the already existent Chaos Gods over that stated period, and then started to feed and shape those already existing gods with human emotions, concepts and souls...

You say awakened, I say intentionally repurposed with less upper management, if the Eldar are to be given "any" credit on shackling such a Daemon for millions of years...... One day, I truly hope GW retcons this. To my mind, the idea that 3 Chaos Gods were born by Man is just sheer nonsense. Especially when the Aeldari of the time numbered in the trillions to birth Slaanesh. It would be more sensible to say that the Ruinous Powers were born in the War of Heaven.
