The Origins Of Malcador - 40K Theories 

I like to think he is has no fancy background or secret super-powerful lineage. I like to think Malcador was simply the most badass, powerful, natural born human to ever live. No augmentation, no cloning, not related to the emperor, no shaman rituals. He is what peak performance looks like.

Malacador was the most important person around the Emperor for one reason, he was the only one to tell him "No" on occasion. Probably the only one that would live after doing so.

You got the end wrong. When Malcador took the throne the E declared " behold, Malcador the Hero" When Dorn brought back his broken body Malcador gave his final power to awaken the E who then gave instructions to Dorn on how to hook him up to the Golden Throne. Malcador turned to dust after he gave his last power. Also in the latest HH short, after Malacador nearly killed Horus we learn Horus became obsessed with Malcador and learned everything about him...including his war crimes etc. The Khan relayed all of this to him as he was there just before the dawn of the siege.

"Malcador" means "angel (or messenger) of the age" in Hebrew. (Malakh ha-dor).

Hmm...I believe out of all of those possibilities presented, I think him being the last of a Shaman bloodline tasked with overseeing the development and teaching the Emperor makes the most sense in my opinion. As always, love these videos.

The Men of Gold were said to be mysterious beings who aided the Emperor as he watched over mankind before he was ready to reveal himself. Perhaps Malcador, with his unnaturally long life, incredible psychic power, astonishing mind, unwavering loyalty, and surprising physical hardiness, was one of the Men of Gold.

Malcador was just a mortal man who, by quirk of mutation, not only had massive psychic powers, but also aged like stone.

I think it’d be super cool to have a fallout style game during the Terran unification period. You got the Sigilites, the Thunder Warriors, the techno-barbarian warlords.

One thing is for sure: if Malcador truly is 6,700 years old, he's certainly not just a regular human.

"Technobarbarian warlords" will never stop being one of my absolute favourite concepts from 40k.

As far as I remember, the emperor left, saying something like "come, we have a galaxy to conquer" to his marines. Didn't even look back at Uriah. He's dead and he is not Malcador for sure.

Easily one of your best videos, a truly fascinating topic

That part about Malcador saying that some of the Primarchs should have been made female(and they really should have, the Primarchs are supposed to be the pinnacle of human potential and femininity is half of that) reminded me of a question I have. A question that likely many of us have, perhaps warranting a video all its own. A question that concerns the very heart of the 40k universe and the answer to which could change our understanding of the entire hobby. Why does Emps think girls are icky?

I believe Malcador was loyal and is greatly missed for the Imperium of Man.

My personal favorite part of this first image of malcador that a lot of people miss is that the skulls in the arms of his chair are marked with the numbers of the two lost legions that were wiped from history.

If I had to guess it may be the case that Malcador might be a earlier version of the process that created the Emperor. IT would make sense for the Shamans to want to try a smaller scale test to see if their ritual would even work. Add into the fact that with the Warp time is not a constant, it certainly would be possible for the 'test version' that Malcador was could have been born in the Materium after the Emperor.

I personally think Malcador is no fate-tied legacy child, but rather, simply the most powerful Psyker on Terra prior to the Emperor, brought into the fold for his talents, knowledge and undying faith to the cause of Unity. His position of 'the Last Sigilite' gives me the impression that he joined the Imperium simply like Uriah would have - converted, convinced, and made loyal.

I personally like to think he Is just a "Normal Psyker" (albeit one with insanely strong abilities & the knowledge to enhance his own lifespan ) Who simply earned the emperors respect. The contrast between the demi-god primarchs and the simply human malcador is so much better that way

The Sensei must age - they wouldn't grow to maturity if they didn't, though it could be that they age incredibly slowly - like Malcador. Also, unless it's known that the Sensei are infertile, then there are probably descendants of the Emperor who are not his direct children but his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren etc. So there are many ways in which Malcador could be a blood relative of the Emperor.

Some extreme events can destroy a Perpetual by, in effect, draining them of their regeneration energy - Mal turned into dust when he died, maybe he was so utterly drained of power that he couldn't regenerate.

I go for a more Frank Herbert view; if the Emperor was made, then perhaps nature tried it's own hand at it, like how Paul Atreides was made and Duncan Idaho was naturally born both supreme beings, just a thought

i think he was a simulacrum. a split of piece of the emperor. a entirely unique being that was formed from the emperors powers. to be sure he had someone to completely trust in. basically a familiar

It's possible that Malcador's body is, in fact, the Emperor's original body, with the psyche of Malcador having been fashioned by the Emperor to inhabit the body, or being the composite psyches of the shamans that created the Emperor. In the novel Vengeful Spirit, it details how the Perpetual Alivia Sureka was tasked by the Emperor to guard the warp gate after he had returned from it. Alivia remembers helping carry and support the Emperor as they left the vault the warp gate was contained within, and how even his mind had been damaged by the experience, as he was projecting his thoughts and visions uncontrollably into Alivia's mind. At the end of Vengeful Spirit when Horus returns from beyond the gate and describes his experiences, Aximand notes that Horus had aged noticeably. It's also worth noting that the Emperor spent a great deal of time on Molech during the Dark Age of Technology as the Stormlord, shaping the Knight culture and that references to the Stormlord were still common during the Horus Heresy, and that these references all refer to the Stormlord as a seemingly ordinary individual, riding a horse. Following the Emperor's interaction with Chaos on Molech during the Dark Age of Technology, he used his newfound knowledge to create for himself the Primarch style body so often portrayed and possibly created the psyche of Malacador in a similar way to how Daemons are created from the Chaos Gods.

I have a feeling Malcador is actually an avatar/offshoot of The Emperor. The first 'Primarch" imbued with part of the Emperor's own being and combined personalities. Thus the reason for his immense Psyker strength and complete loyalty to the Emperor Himself!!! And more importantly, the total TRUST of the Emperor of him!!

I find Malcador being the last Shaman plausible.

I always felt that if Blue Boy got Ynead to try and heal/resurrect the Emperor. The Emperor would decline, having Ynead resurrect the only person who died on the Golden Thrown. Image what a resurrected Malcador could do for Blue Boy? If nothing else Blue Boy wouldn't be alone and he would have the wisdom of Malcador, someone his father relied on in the past. Who could help Blue Boy lead the Imperium and be that baddass uncle that he seemed to be to the Primarch's.

It was the music you added that made me think of Malcador as a hero who died a noble death in the service of something greater then he was. I wish I had some idea of what he was, but I sadly have none. Maybe he is just mean to be one of those mysteries on Warhammer 40,000?

I was LITERALLY wondering about this three days ago.

Keep up the videos Inquisitor. They help me disguise -myself- other Alpha Legionaries, into the Imperium. I once made a mistake so bad with one of the casualties of the Battle of Pluto. I had to cut off my arm and disappear, it was soooo embarrassing. I was undercover so well for so long too. Well it’s not as embarrassing as the time when Omegon went onto The Vengeful Spirit in his Emperor cosplay. That didn’t end well.

Two questions : What if Malcador is the result of another mass suicide or the shamans' descendance. What if the chaos god manage to harness the souls of the shamans during their ritualistic suicide and corrupt them to create an "Emperor of Chaos" just imagine the 41st millenia with a chaotic imperium.

Could it have been possible that the Emperor used some of his own essence to create Malcador so he could have someone that he could call equal or as close to equal one could possibly be? Would be pretty darned lonely to have nobody that could live longer than a standard human lifespan to share your dreams with, to share your secrets with, to share your powers with and to assist you in any way shape or form without too much difficulty. The Emperor could've known he would have been insanely busy and needed someone almost on par with himself to run the Imperium of Man, to ensure the Primarchs along with their Legions were conquering the galaxy as ordered and ahead of schedule.

This idea of the Emperor being created through some ancient psykers and a suicide ritual seems silly to me, because if it was I'm sure Magnus and Lorgar would have found and utilised this by now

Know that every time somebody says "leejeeoneees astaateeez", the Emperor is cursing with disappointment, for High Gothic sounds a lot more like Latin and not like 3rd millennium English.

Ahh as much as I admit that I find the "He was originally the last priest" to be unlikely I adooooore the idea to pieces. My eyes lit up at the idea its lovely. The idea of getting rid of that downer of an ending and the emperor was able to show off the beauty in conquering the stars for intergalactic brotherly unity. Ahh if only.

I love the theory that Malcador is a biological son of the Emperor. It explains everything about his character and powers.

Perhaps he was the last sigillite and the souls of past sigillites attached themselves to him to enhance his powers.... much in the same way that the Emperor drew his power from the souls of the sacrificed shamans...

i think that Malcador could actually be the Emperor. since the emperor seems more like an idol to anyone looking at him, which seemingly stems from a psi power, he vould just be some illusion type thing to fool the people, and his primarchs

Maybe Malcador is not the Emperor’s son, but his father. His father for whose unjust murder the Emperor killed his own uncle. Perhaps he resurrected him from death as a boy, to accompany him on his quest. That may explain Malcador’s immense age and seeming immortality, as well as his apparent difference in physical age from the Emperor. Perhaps what is perceived as fierce loyalty for his Emperor is in fact the love of a father for his son.

These kinds of origin questions about Malcador and the Emperor of Man have so much appeal is in part due to the mystery. Better to keep it that way rather than making a commitment

There is something I heard of that was suggested as an origin for the Emperor but I wonder if it might fit Malcador. One of the suggested origins was the result of Dark Age technology and that the Emperor had been created during this time. Maybe Malcador was the result of that project. But I don't have anything to back it up, just a post in an asksciencefiction reddit thread.

He could be an imperfect clone of the meperor, a sort of Primarch prototype in the same vain as the Thunder Warriors were Space Marine Prototypes.

Just a random comment but I wanted to point out I loved Malcador in The Solar War. He’s just trying to what has to be done and terrified at the fact that in his weakness he could doom everything he’s helped build. Even challenging Garviel to kill him if he has a problem with it. Also when he appears to the Emperor in the warp and the Emperor just says “Goodbye, old friend”

Malcador is nothing more than The Hero. It does not matter his origins. Only that he was the greatest and most loyal of subjects within the Imperium. Praise Malcador The Hero. He he is one of the few to give their life for the Imperium and The Emperor of Mankind.

This just reminds me how the destruction of Faith doomed the Imperium. The loss of Faith leads to hopelessness giving Chaos the room needed to wiggle in.

Malcador's last words to the Emperor were "erase my browser history" and that is what the Emperor is still currently doing.

Malcador is the Emprah's plot armour.

I think malcador was the real emperor and the master of mankind was created as the ultimate prototype primarch to sit on the throne while malcador continued to run the empire.

I think Uncle Malcy is akin to Planetary's Elijah Snow: a part of Humanity's immune system. He was necessary to ensure that Humanity could survive the Emperor, and that the Emperor would stay true to his purpose of shepherding and safeguarding Humanity's future.
