I cry every time I hear this story, to the point where I actively avoid references to it now. Except... it's an Ami video, and those must be watched, so here I am, literally with a tear streak down my face. That second statue is lovely, though, and I like that the original one, where Hachiko is forever waiting, is balanced by the second, where he and the professor are reunited. That... helps, somehow, just a little.

Hachiko would not be the first. *Greyfriars Bobby* (May 4, 1855 - January 14, 1872) was a Skye Terrier who became known in 19th-century Edinburgh for spending 14 years guarding the grave of his owner until he died himself on 14 January 1872. The story continues to be well known in Scotland, through several books and films.

the tale is probably as old as dogs, these are just the modern examples. Odysseus returning from his journey is recognized by his faithful hound Argos who dies now that his master has returned.

I first heard about hachiko for the first time in The World Ends With You, so every time I hear about hachiko, I think about Neku being told by reapers to kill his partner Shiki. That whole scene took place in front of the hachiko statue.

Hello Ami; I know the story and was very touched in how you presented it.The statue of owner and dog displayed the love between the two of them and the happiness they felt in each others lives. I think of my fathers dog when he passed away and how she comforted my mother and me, after she had cared for our saddness, I cared for hers sleeping by my side until she felt better.I love everything you do and how it is very genuine nice and smooth. Right when the American movie ended of Hachiko ended I broke down and proceeded to cry for a solid hour. I then cried myself to sleep when I went to bed. I was nine. That day will forever be in my memory.

Hello! Can you tell us more about Hachiko's life in Professor Ueno's house? Describe his life there, his relationship with the owner? How did Ueno treat him? How much did you love your dog? Did Ueno have a family, children? And what is shown in the Japanese film, when the professor took a bath with Hachiko, caught fleas from him for hours, and Hachi fell asleep in his arms is it true?

Ughhhh Ami why the somber and sad music...my eyeballs are crying. This is my favorite tale. I remember when I started first grade...our teacher sat down and read Hachiko's story to us while we were drawing and I remember when she came to the part Hachiko died I cried so hard I had to be sent home early. Hachiko was a good boi indeed.

Great video :-) When I was at Shibuya last year there was a local chap taking photos for tourists all day with the statue - he didn’t want any money, he just wanted to help people enjoy his city.
