The Owners REVIEW - Fresh Take On Home Invasion Horror
The Owners is a 2020 horror thriller film adapted from the graphic novel Une nuit de pleine lune by Hermann and Yves H. Directed by debut director Julius Berg, with a screenplay by Mathieu Gompel and Julius Berg in collaboration with Geoff Cox, it stars Maisie Williams, Sylvester McCoy, Rita Tushingham, Jake Curran, Ian Kenny and Andrew Ellis.
The Owners was released in the United States on September 4, 2020, by RLJE Films.

Rita Tushingham was a great actress in the 60s: A Taste of Honey (1961), Doctor Zhivago (1965), and the phenomenally underrated The Trap (1966) which is a must-see for Oliver Reed alone. It's really no suprise she delivers in this new movie.

I heard ending was dumb. Also Maisie Williams as an actress is pretty hit and miss for me everytime I watch her in something. I might give it a watch after this video.

Maisie Williams is a good actress. I liked her in Game of Thrones. Doctor Who. Cyberbully and The New Mutants. I bought The New Mutants on DVD today and I think Maisie Williams should had got a BAFTA nomination for Cyberbully.

@@danielwilliamson6180 I agree with Cyberbully, I watched that before I started watching game of thrones, definitely a good watch very tense especially since it's mostly her for the majority of the runtime. I thought she was just ok in Doctor who although I like what they did with her character throughout.

It sounds a lot like Wes Craven's PEOPLE UNDER THE STAIRS which is a super-tense classic and a brilliant movie from the 90s about two thieves getting caught in a house that's owned by a very strange couple, I really enjoyed that one. So I'll look out for THE OWNERS, although the cast in this apart from Sylvester McCoy is nowhere near as big as the Wes Craven classic. It looks good.

I chose home invasion for my short story, it was the first book I wrote that got good reviews I even sold a couple copies in the UK. I love home invasion stories so I'll check this one out as soon as I can.

I wanted to like this film. It started out ok and had some good parts to it, but I couldn't take the interactions between Maisie and the "owners" seriously. It was just unbelievable that those 2 characters could pose a threat as they looked so old and feeble. I didn't buy them being physical with her for a second. Plus, I felt the ending was really bad. I'm glad others are able to enjoy it.

Overall needed a little more substance and the ending was a little weak. 83% RAD. Worth a watch for the performances. A bit of unconventional cinematography, not sure if it was effective or divisive.

They sort of do. They drop a line earlier in the movie that Maise's twin sister had seemingly run away because she hated her fat boyfriend. The old couple had actually abducted her with the help of the fat guy as he didn't want her to leave and the old couple wanted a stand in for their dead daughter. She was locked in the safe room and that's why the old couple didn't want to open it for the robbers. I'm not sure why the old couple wanted the fat guy to lure the robbers there though.

It's basicall a UK rip off of Don't Breath, but nowhere near as good. The only saving graces are Sylvester McCoy and Rita Cushingham. Even the 'twist' of an ending is taken straight frrom Don't Breath.

I want to see this. My only gripe is that I feel like they showed the entire movie in the trailer. I wish they had kept the trailer only showing footage of the invasion, because I think leaving the reveal of the elderly couple turning out to be psychotic only in the movie, and not the trailer, would have been more impactful and a very nice surprise. Would you say that there are enough twists and turns, actually good twists and turns, so that my initial thought of them basically showing the entire movie in the trailer is fairly incorrect?

I think she's going to be one of those actors who is literally good for only one role and that's it. Her as (young) Arya Stark in season 1 of GoT was amazing. Everyone loved her. Now, she looks out of place every time she's on screen.

Just finished it and I didn’t like it. It was good for the first 45 minutes, but then the second half was filled with idiotic decisions by the main character and as a result the ending felt like a slap in the face. Not my cup of tea.
