The funniest thing is that Jinx has been building these bombs since episode 4 and you didn't notice. In the song she is listening to in episode 4 while Silco tries to talk to her, this is also the character Jinx's launch song. There is even a clip of this song called "get jinxed". Right now she is building these bombs in the style of the flying robots that appear on Progress Day.

Same Doctor, it is kind of hinted at that shimmer and Rio (the "Toothless"-dragon) are connected, which might be why he keeps him/it alive in the tube

Connected? Its all but confirmed that Rio IS the source of Shimmer. It's why Singed (The dorctor) is keeping it alive, and it's why Rio's survival was paramount to Singed, in the flashbacks, when Viktor was young: "The mutation MUST survive." - Implying that Rio itself isn't important to Singed, only the Shimmer itself, which he can harvest from Rio.

@@sandreid87 I think Rio was the original source of Shimmer which Singed is now able to replicate and manufacture. Kind of like how studying the proteins in snake venom that prevented clotting allowed them to manufacture anti-coagulation medicines. That is to say I don't think they're "milking" or 'harvesting' Rio for shimmer. He keeps Rio alive because his experiments have continued are allowing him to discover more things that have helped him turn Shimmer from the crude monster-making version that Deckard took, to the versions that supercharge Sevika, cure Vi and allow Viktor to endure the metamorphosis.

There are so many great details in this show, I could rant for hours. Like Jinx humming the song she sang on the bridge in the very beginning or Jinx working on those firelights in episode 4. Marcus acting out of pure desperation because he fears for his daughter. Jayce trying the best he can but being easily influenced or persuaded. It’s all forming the perfect storm with all manner of characters trying to do what they consider the best, but each with their own approach, blindspots, motivations, history and flaws… And it’s all understandable and sad at the same time.

Jayce has been that "built" all the time. He was raised in a family of blacksmiths so this is obviously not the first time he's "working out" in the smithy, and he's probably been an athlete when growing up. (Just like Caitlyn.)

one of my favorite scenes in the whole show is when they talk about weaponizing hextech, and Viktor deliberating disarming the bomb and going "there's always a choice" - he knew how to disarm it, he just wasnt sure disarming it was the right CHOICE

Same doctor, yeah. And he did get caught in the explosion back in episode 3, that's why half his face is now burnt off and he wears a high collar jacket. He's the guy developing all the shimmer.

23:20 - How many times have we teared up for this show? Endlessly. That's the beauty of tragedies like this, why they're so relatable. Because _every single one_ of these problems has a rational way out. We can tell if the people involved could get past all their hang ups, there's a way forward with less suffering, where people don't have to hurt folks they love. But since everything they've been through is so real, we also _inherently_ understand why they can't get past their hang-ups; because those hangups mirror our own pains and struggles and we know how those have formed us and influence who we have become. It's so good.

The fight between Ekko and jinx is phenomenal, but it’s such an amazing insight into their mind sets. How Ekko has learned from his past, is always looking towards a better future. Hence his ability in the game to reverse time to create a better outcome/future. Being the only one in the piltover/under city conflict to be pushing for a different future. But being unable to change time to save Jinx…makes him hesitate from finishing her off based on who she used to be. And Jinx being stuck in the past, her traumas haunting her, nostalgia being a bitter sweet reminder of things that could have been but never will be, because of the consequences of her actions leading to her families death. Leading her to not hesitate to kill Ekko, even if she kills herself in the process. The burn it all down mentality. Fuck me I can’t wait for season 2.

I kinda think that the animation might hint at the fact that she could have killed him, like with the paint gun, but couldn't make herself do it, and it's only herself that she wanted to kill with the bomb at the end, but maybe I'm delusional as no one I've seen interprets it this way (her not shooting him part, not the bomb)

@@olliep.538 Nah, she couldn't beat Ekko. If they were trying to convey her hesitating, they would have them recreate the exact same movements and her hold her shot but that's not what the animators did. They showed us the kid version, then they showed the present fight and Ekko's movements were exactly the same at first until the second movement where he got hit as a kid where he avoided the bullets by using a different jump, then his next movement completely surprised Jinx since usually she would have won by then. The animation clearly shows Ekko straight up outplayed her. This is also emphasised by the emotions at play here. They're both remembering their childhood fights, but Jinx is having fun with that memory, she's reliving it while Ekko is completely focused on winning. She's totally into it, if she had stopped herself we would have seen a different emotion on her face instead of going from pure joy to surprise when he outplays her. Jinx would probably have broken down if she had killed Ekko, but only after, not during the fight, she's totally in the zone while she's fighting, it's like she's reliving her childhood.

Yet, for me, the shot were she is aiming directly at him before going down is just a millisecond too long to not leave out a tiny possibility that she could have been the one to shoot him again

Ekko remembers Marcus, yes. Throughout the years, as the leader of the Fire Lights, Ekko definitely would have dealt with Silco, Jinx, Marcus and the enforcers all the time. Back in episode 4, the mechanical butterflies were introduced during progress day and we see Jinx tinkering with them after she stole the hex stone/gem. Like all the other episodes, there's a lot of nuances in this episode too, Viktor to Jayce, "There is always a choice." then chose to use Singed's shimmer variant, and we see all the other characters making choices that drastically affect their lives (like Marcus' damned choices ends his). Oh, and Councilor Mel Medarda never said anything about building "weapons", Viktor and Jacye are the only ones who jumped to that conclusion. She asked for "countermeasures" against possible hextech weapons that the under-city (Fire Lights) may come up with, she could've been thinking about shields, force-fields, or armor - defensive systems.

Truth be told, I think Mel isn't really nearly as worried about the Undercity, as other forces beyond their walls that she knows first hand are our there, she knows Noxus, and knows that it's only a matter of time until they come a knocking. I personally expect to see their arrival in season 2.

Ekko had a crush on jinx when they were kids. She calls him the boy savior because he tried to “free” her from Silco a few times before giving up and realizing she was beyond saving. Jinx didn’t want to kill him. She wanted to kill herself. Throughout the show each time she wanted to kill someone she attached her bombs to them. She didn’t attach the bomb to ekko. She put it on the side so he would have time to get away. But she wouldn’t survive. She is scared of being alone. She just saw her sister walk away from her. Ekko the only boy who cared about her take her out. And silco is not going to want a weakling (in her mind). She was going to be alone and would rather die.

Another great moment which happens so fast that the only way to fully appreciate it is to slow it down frame by frame is upon Jinx firing at them, Caitlyn quickly steps in front of Vi and shields her face with her shoulder. Vi quickly reacts by pushing herself and Caitlyn out of the line of fire. Just Brilliant!

The background behind the "look who it is... the boy savior" quote always got me. At first, everyone could imagine she is meaning about the fact that Ekko's gang is helping people of the undercity. But the true is that the show runners planned to do a scene in which Ekko was trying to rescue Powder shortly after the events of episode 3, but she preferred to stay with Silco. Unfortunately the scene was rejected to keep the mystery of who was the firelight's leader. But thinking about that is so tough man

I just had the realization that Jinx/Powder on some level resents that Ekko didn't save her. She must have thought what would it be like if he had, but he instead is saviour for everyone else. Jinx usually doesn't directly aim at people, she sweeps the minigun in an obvious path to get them to move (like trying to separate Vi and Caitlyn). When she has actual murderous intent, she uses the pistol, in a very controlled manner. She knows the firelights are other underground kids, so even though she could use more efficient lethal force, she "fights it out" to give them a chance. To give the illusion of a scary combatant instead of just killing everyone. The ONLY times she actually intents to kill, she does so immediately (the 4 members of the raiding party and pink hair girl in ep 4, the crow, the injured enforcer), then other times she plays around using her weapons as melee or doing very obvious missing sweeps. She straps explosives to their hoverboards, she sprays in their general direction, but if she wanted to kill them outright she would just take out her gun and easily shoot them pointblank. Then, the Ekko fight scene. Ekko just sees a killer, but Jinx sees her friend who abandoned her and is now in the way of getting her sister back. She shoots and misses twice, apparenttly a credit to Ekko's skills but she is actually playing along to their game by shooting at the exact same spot, which Ekko specifically dodged. She knew this beforehand, which is why she is so flabergasted when Ekko goes ham on her face after that. I don't think she intended to use that grenade until that point, when she understood that Ekko just doesn't see her as a former friend anymore (Ekko then also realizes Jinx is just as scared as Powder) and just at that moment, having lost everything again, she gives up and activates the grenade.

You guys are so spot on with your analysis and predictions. It's really cool how fast you catch on to little details like how Ekko recognized Vi or how they show how much power Jinx holds over Silco. Btw, the doctor IS the same one that worked for Silco. His name is Singed (he is also a character in the game) and he'll surely be a part of S2 as well.

Sounstracks are amazing! And they did all of them themselves and then found artists to perfromer them. Witch is beyond incredible.. Would recomend watching the documentary "Bridging the Rift" - 5 episodes. Witch is amazing aswell!

The art style change during the battle between Ekko (Little Man) and Jinx is a pretty good representation of Ekko's ultimate skill in the game that allows him to jump back to a fixed point in time. While he may not have that tech in Arcane yet, the visual storytelling gives a nod to the game by through this.

I do not think it is disrespectful for Jace to say he has a lot on his plate to a dying man as he is now in charge of the lives of everyone in both cities. His actions can lead to many other people dying or living so i would not be too hard on him.

Love your guys' reactions, some of the best I've seen! I know it's well past now, but a few fun observations: The song Jinx is humming after her bombs blow up on the bridge is the same one she was singing as a child during the intro to episode 1. Rio, the giant salamander kept by the doctor, is heavily implied to be the source of shimmer. Given what we have seen shimmer do, it makes a lot of sense why he was adamant that the mutation survive. I have a theory on the Jinx and Ekko fight: In order to win, Ekko had to put Jinx in a position where he could predict her. So he 'invited' her to return to when they were Little Man and Powder. And it absolutely works, but the problem is it forces him to see her as Powder again. His one ace-in-the-hole that guaranteed he could win the fight also guaranteed he couldn't finish the job, and it's such a beautiful juxtaposition and story!

Its a documentary put out by riot about the creation of arcane and there is an entire episodes dedicated to the sound track. Its an amazing story and makes you appreciate this show even more (if that is possible)!

I don’t understand the hate for Jace that some people have. I always saw him as someone who was always trying to do the right thing but clearly got in over his head. When he says to Viktor that he’s got a lot on his plate I don’t think he was trying to be disrespectful, I think he was extremely overwhelmed and just said what came to mind. He even apologized right after. Jace has a good heart, but he’s struggling.

It's both the dude that was raising the dragon and the guy that worked for Silco, same person. And the enforcers around Marcus are probably on Silco's payroll too, Marcus was fine (until Jinx intervened at least xD)

About the part with Ekko recognizing Marcus, I think that it is less that he recognizes Marcus from when he was being a dick to Vander, and more that the Firelights know Marcus/the Sheriff is corrupt (Silco pays them to kill his people). So when Ekko's eyes adjust enough to see that Marcus is the one enforcing the blockade, he instantly knows it's bad and starts to protect the gemstone, though he is too late for the bullet. Thankfully he had on a set of bulletproof overalls (probably could hide a steel plate inside since the bullet didn't penetrate through the whole thing, just the first layer).

I think that's what they meant though. Ekko would know Marcus is corrupt specifically because he was watching when Benzo was killed. Silco then handed Marcus the money and Marcus screamed "this wasn't the deal!" So Ekko would recognize him from that incident.

Viktor's impending death is also an issue for Jayce and as he has made clear, it weighs quite heavily. But he's also responsible for everyone's safety, having to stand up to violent people while also dancing around currying favor with his own greedy colleagues. Viktor may be dying, but Jayce has a lot more to deal with, and having his priorities collide is exactly what is bound to happen. He immediately asked for forgiveness though - commendable if you ask me, and not the typical outcome of a dispute where people run a mile in the opposite direction before considering the other person's position.

To be fair, Silco still thought Vi was gone, he didn't say anything to Jinx because in his eyes Vi was someone who had betrayed a sibling just like what he thought of Vander, but it's also true that he didn't tell her either because there was a possibility that Jinx would prefer to go with Vi

In the scene where Silco has his speech with the chem barrens, just as the gas is released he takes a breath and says all that without taking a breath until the very end. It shows his dedication to the cause because he’s still in the depths with those he’s trying to liberate.

I really appreciate your analysis on Jayce. So many of my friends dislike Jayce (and I know you said "fuck Jayce" at the end, but I figure it was more jest), but I genuinely think he's underrated in this show. His character arc feels definitely believable, as a naive, bright-eyed scientist pushed into a greedy, power-hungry system that shaped him through bad decisions with good intentions.

nooooo I've been binge watching this reaction series and only now realized how recent it is. goddamnit gonna have to wait for the next one now. it's been really enjoyable watching you guys! edit: don't know how much you like live action but can highly recommend HBO's The Last of Us! it's a video game adaptation and also very well written and heartbreaking like arcane

I didn't go through all the comments to see if anyone told you why Ekko used a stopwatch during the fight scene. He was predicting Jinx's movements and fighting style while remembering their childhood shenanigans. Then he went back to the beginning. That's his ultimate in the game. He can rewind time and return to where he was a few seconds earlier.

It's a shame to see these two have such great reactions, yet still fall into the same pit as so many others when it comes to their perception of "evil" characters. There's an insatiable amount of nuance in all of these characters and most people will at least acknowledge those grey boundaries--unless it's Marcus. He gets so much screen time to show how his initial actions--arrogant as they were--set him down a path he didn't mean to happen, doesn't agree with and can't get out from under. Silco even blatantly mentions that Marcus is faltering; we see that he has no loyalty to Silco and tries to undercut him multiple times in the small ways he can. He tortures himself in keeping a coin soaked in Grayson's blood. He can't look at himself in the mirror or at pictures of his daughter. Hell, Silco even frames him in a box with his fingers in a fantastic, if subtle, camera shot when he pulls on Marcus' strings after calling him "Sheriff" for the first time. It doesn't ruin the reactions, but there's always that disappointing blemish on a reactor when everyone gets a chance to show both sides of the coin, other than Marcus--who is arguably the most relatable "human" in the show. Someone trapped by the consequences of the actions they regret with nowhere to turn and no way out. Marcus is stuck in an impossible game with bigger pieces all around him. To stick to first impressions and ignore all of the context surrounding his arc does a disservice to the show's careful, deliberate context. Other than that, I'm glad they're enjoying the show.

It's hilarious how people see his daughter being threatened by the main villain and they still hate him and can't sympathize with the tough situation he's in. In the same scene his daughter is being threatened in, he gives up Caitlyn's name to Silco and people always yell "WHY'D YOU TELL HIM THAT?!". They just refuse to see things from his side which is ironic since seeing everyone's "side" and their understandable motivations is why the show is so popular.

nah, has nothing to do with her being a fighter, but having failed, which was what she feared the most all along, as demonstrated by her monologue in the gas turbine lair. with everything of value gone, her having threatened silco and vi abandoning her, the former friend ekko beating her, suicide isn't far off.

I understand why Ekko thinks that Jinx can't be redeemed; it's still sad though. What Ekko was silently saying, when he pulled out the pocket watch and began swinging it: "Let's play our old game...one last time..." As another commenter said, Ekko was ready to kill Jinx, but he couldn't bring himself to kill Powder. Jinx continues to break my heart in this episode. Once again, she knows she's mentally unwell, and we see her fight back against it, recognizing that it was just a good-bye hug between Vi and Caitlyn, and struggling to not jump to the worst conclusions. But her luck truly is bad; once again, she sees/hears things without context, and her paranoia, trauma, and other mental issues boil over once again. Thanks for the video.

The most heartbreaking part of the lore is that they might include in season 2 is that Ekko had a crush on Powder when they were kids. Now his love became unstable and he turned away from and disappointed. That moment when he couldn’t hurt Jinx hurts that much more

So what happened with the fight between Jinx and Ekko is that Ekko (in the game) has time manipulation abilities. This has been represented in the show as being able to do something in his head to see how it will go before "reversing time" and doing it with that knowledge. So as kids "Little Man" saw where "Powder" was going to shoot and was able to dodge all of her bullets except the last one. He then "went back" and armed with this knowledge Ekko was able to make adjustments to his attack so when it counted, that last bullet fired by Jinx, missed. The end of the scene is even more heartbreaking when you find out that Ekko had a crush on Powder when they were kids. One of Ekko's lines in the game when he interacts with Jinx is "I had a crush until you started talking to the gun". So, when he paused looking down at her he wasn't seeing Jinx, he was seeing his old friend and the girl he fell in love with, Powder.

two points i wanna make: - The scientist who gave the shimer to viktor is the same one who worked for silco his name is singed, he had hair before but after the explosion in ep 3 he was burnt but he survived somehow. - Ekko used to have a crush on Jinx and he might still like her it's why he stopped beating her at the end, he saw the powder he used to like, and the fighting scene showcases how they used to play together as kids but you could see jinx won when they were kids but ekko's new power is time control so he knew exactly what her movements will be and he dodged it at the right time. Thx for the reaction it was fun to watch waiting for ep 8 now 😁

he doesnt have time control during arcane, at least not at that time. he just memorized Jinx shooting pattern she used as they where kids, so he was able to dodge all bullets. to make sure she uses all those patterns, he triggers her with his clock and with jinx being crazy, it worked out.

You guys hit the nail on the head with Jayce. His instincts usually point him towards the good but he has no real moral compass to speak of so he's very prone to be persuaded and manipulated. The writers did a really good job portraying that (and everything else lol)

On my first watch Jayce was kindof a boring character to me because it just seems like he does whatever the person he is talking to that scene wants him to do. But after many rewatches he has a lot more nuances and agency (especially in the last 2 episodes) than I realized.

@@AvereeChaloupka Yeah and for me it's not that he's easily manipulated that makes him interesting, it's that he struggles the whole time trying to choose whose advice to follow. He's never quite sure he's doing the right thing, even though the right thing is all he wants to do. Arcane really didn't miss with a single character imo
