I was 9 years old when "I think I love you" hit the airwaves. I listened to the album over and over and over. With the exception of nursery rhymes, it was the first lyric I ever committed to memory, singing it constantly. I would set up Tupperware in all different sizes on the couch, use cookie tin lids for cymbals and bamboo chopsticks for drumsticks. Today I am 50 years old, playing drums in a working band. The Partridge Family was the catalyst of my love of playing music and I'm grateful.
this show and the monkees were such an incredible combination of music, the monkees have talent goodlooking, funny, sweet, caring all around great guys that played great songs and made girls wish to be their girlfriends and guys wanting to be popular and groovy too. then you had the pf. that were this nice wholesome loving caring family, with this great looking older brother and this cute younger one and nice looking sisters and a drummer for a brother, great cast, a true gem of a show.
@genericgeorge I liked it more than the Bradys simply because of the music, the storylines, then there's David. He was the ultimate, and you can't say "I Think I Love You" to the Bradys..
It was a great show. Much better than the Brady Bunch. But for some reason it hasnt worn as well. Maybe kids relate to the individual brady kids and the whole dorkiness more. The Partridge Family was more cutting edge and sophisticated for the time.
A fine show, I watched it all the time 1970-1974. Had their first album. The Wrecking Crew even played on the recordings. David Cassidy, this major pop star, got $50,000, while the producers made like a $50 Million profit. Danny, well, I could never get into his deal...
I disagree. Putting the Brady Kids in front of a mic was in response to the fierce competition as put in by the Partridges. Only two of the Brady kids could kinda sing. Greg and Marcia. Only two of the Partridges really sang: David and Shirley. It doesn't matter. My argument is that the Partridge Family was a better written show, had better acting, having Cassidy as Keith gave the show a HUGE advantage given his talent and the fact that his father was Jack.
I think you might want to consider uploading this special -- in its entirety -- to DailyMotion (www.dailymotion.com/) as it is less restrictive than here on RU-vid. Please! Part 1 got flagged recently.
@genericgeorge Not worn as well? I could say the Bradys are out dated with the way they lived. Anybody whose anybody knows that rock music never goes out of style, as well as good morals. You're right cause the Partridges were cutting edge for the time on how they approached issues. The reason as to why the PF have never had as much rerun play has to do with how much does it cost to air reruns?
teen idol hurricane. I remember the disc jockeys saying that David Cassidy only had 5 years to a teen idol career. HA!!! He was great. They also refused to play Partridge Family songs on request. JERKS! I hate KISN radio Portland for their attitude. they hated The Carpenters too
@Jantv81 Yeah music copyright would have something to do with it. P.F. wasnt rock music though. 80% of it is average pop with 20% being good pop and a few classics. Most of the music hasnt worn well. The brady kids you dislike some of the time and liked some of the time - but I always related to bobby/cindy as they were my age. I loved/hated the corny stories and remember a lot of them. Maybe because it has been repeated a lot more. I just remember it being a more popular show at the time.
