Thank you for all the good comments. I was in the front rank of the second Platoon and still serving now. The Guards Depot was a place of solid traditons, no-nonsense training and a foundation of pride to all that passed through those hallowed gates. Nulli Secundus!
@@ken-u3n ,hi matey. I have been a section commander at the Depot and a Platoon Sergeant at the ITC Catterick. I'm happy to report that none of the Guards ethos was lost in the move. What was lost was the needless beasting and pointless bullying that made the Depot such a miserable place to be. The modern Guardsman has to learn so much more and isn't afraid to ask questions. Pay a visit, watch some lessons, go to a pass out parade. Don't be a sheep, be the Wolf!!!
Wow, guardsmen who are tall and slim and know how to do drill properly. Their No.2s actually fit and they slide their feet during slow March instead of goose stepping. This must be from another decade.
My No. 2's fit me perfectly back in the day, and my parade ground drill was perfect. I was a short arse at 5ft 8, and my Colonel wanted to transfer me to the horses down the road, which I refused. I went on to securing xxxxxx xxx xxxxx xxxxxx'x xx xxxxxxxxxxx
Recognised one of the instructors, sgt Crilly irish guards we had him in 1986. Top bloke and didn't beast you for the hell of it like most of the rest.
Spotted Rab McGuire, Rab Hannah , Jim McDowell (you still owe me a fiver), Kenny Bamford (it only took you aboot 2 years Kenny well done, you'd be a Depot personality by then.) Scott Salthouse (Personality No.2) Shug Clarke and possibly Ewan Dunlop? A rogues gallery there.
@@johnnyrogers6912 Guards Depot was Alexander Barracks. I had the misfortune of being posted to the shithole that was Elizabeth Barracks after returning from the paradise that was Berlin. What made it worse was whilst in Berlin the CO was given the option of the battalion returning to either Elizabeth Bks or the newly built Victoria Bks in Windsor. The fkn knob chose Pirbright.
