Awesome! Thanks so much for posting this. Cant believe that its 30 years and counting. Jimmy O was looking his usual immaculate self. Sadly I heard that he has since gone on to the great drill shed in the sky. I can see him now rifting the angels off to trap one for having wings incorrectly feathered, and dull halos. Best wishes to everyone from shiny one platoon.
I was here 15 years later, Aisnse platoon, Guards Coy. For phase 1 training, then on to phase 2 at Catterick, although we were the last platoon to come through Vimy barracks all training for Guards is done at Helles bks now.
Good to hear from you mate, hope all is good with you. A dozen of us got together for a beer down in London a couple of months ago and decided rather than have a reunion every 32 years we would do it on an annual basis. email me on roymackey7@aol.com and I will give you contact details for the other lads etc.
An absolute credit to their Drill Sgt and to the British army, Well done all of them. I write as an ex Regimental Sergeant Major of one of our finest Infantry Regiments. These young men certainly surpassed us at drili and turnout!
just found this post of the depot, i did that in the December of 78, 12 months as a jounior, at 17 years old it was hell and you thought it was never going to end.
Brings back so many memories, the drill was better back then and the guards depot was a hard place to spend 6 months of your life. SEPTUM JUNCTA IN UNO 💂
It really was an unforgiving harsh regime back then. Todays recruits wouldn't hack it back then because society as gone soft and theres too much mollicoddling of them to keep them in. Back then the instructors couldn't give a fuck if you jacked and would beast you up the sandhill just to break you. Times have changed though and they can still do the business on the battlefield.
i was alamein platoon the year before you 4th jan 78/dec 78. maxi mcdonald was one of our wepons instructors L/SGT morcombe L/SGT paddy lavery irish guards and the biggest wanker you will ever get tony McNally scots guards. i really would love to meet up with this twat again.
@@pbrobotspbrobots1710 Tony Mcnally was in my battalion in 88 in Germany and got busted for inappropriate behaviour with a junior piper, he had a brother in my platoon and another in another company. Cockneys.
Very true. I passed out in 92 and I have never again since then experienced anything like the guards depot again. The figure of 8 and the sand Hill was murder 👍
