I watched a panel where you said you and Doug were talking about doing this for a colab review, but I never thought it would actually happen! PRAISE SANTA CHRIST!
+The Chaos Dragoness Do not worry. He will rise again on New Years Day as a baby boy wearing nothing more than a diaper, a top hat and a sash across his torso with 2016 on it.
I want a movie about Revelations, but the full balls out insanity version. With Lion-locust-scorpion hybrids swarming the earth to torment people, and 7 headed dragons being ridden by a hooker
So The Passion of the Christ was about Jesus and was the highest grossing R rated film of all time. Then Deadpool came out and became the Highest grossing R rated film of all time.... does that mean Deadpool is the second coming of jesus?
First Deadpool is bad... I hate all the meaningless nudity and sex crap. Deadpool 2 toned it down a little bit and was way better movie to me. Less cringe
Space Cowboy Deadpool was a good film though, so just because it has sex and nudity and violence, that makes it a bad movie to you. That’s just terrible logic. Deadpool 2 was an incredibly violent movie as well, if anything it was even more inappropriate than the first one.
The one moment in the film that actually moved me was Mary's flashback to comforting young Jesus. The helplessness she must feel seeing the abuse of her son, and not being able to do anything about it. Maybe it's corny, but it stirred empathy in me.
I will say this. The version of Satan portrayed in this movie is probably one of the creepiest I've seen so far in movies. Sorry Peter Stormare, but I think the actress from Passion has you beat.
I don't even get it. I don't even see the story of Jesus dying for our sins here, or at least, not a whole lot of it. The movie focuses so much more on Jesus' death scene than it does on anything else that I feel that it was solely made just for that one purpose. To show us that Jesus wasn't just whipped a few times, nailed to a cross and died, coming back 3 days later to save us. Now, to be fair, if that was the movie's sole intention from the start, then I respect that. But if this movie was trying to retell the whole story and spread the good news as to why Jesus died for our sins, I don't think that I could recommend it to a lot of people.
Obviously, someone had a gay BDSM fetish, but was too ashamed to admit it. Why else would someone make a movie about a guy getting whipped by another guy and then market it as a religious experience for the whole family?
Because this film is about his hour of passion. It's not about his whole life, it's about his sacrifice. I definitely recommend it to people. Jesus is dying for our sins here
Most American Mexican You'll Encounter i had alway assumed that Christian children were well off and legitimate. Sorry to hear you were a poor bastard version.
I grew up in a Christian household but my mom is cool and basically went "It's a little too intense for you right now. You can watch it someday". Watching as a 23 year old who actually knows quite a bit about history and is an atheist, I can see how manipulative this movie is.
The Passion of the Christ had one job, to make everyone feel sorry for Jesus as passionately Christians do. While I think it succeeded at that job, it sacrificed it's integrity as a movie to do it. If you're not a Christian, there's very little chance that you're going to get anything from this movie. I'm a Christian and I've seen people get plenty of spiritual gain from this. However, I've also seen films like the Prince of Egypt which can capture an audience yet still uphold the spiritual value the original story told.
This movie is an accurate representation of how The Last 12 Hours of Jesus was, how his trial was, how people mocked and hit him, the scourging at the pillar and the crucifixion. Most people don't like this movie because they're atheists or because they don't like watching Jesus pay the price for our transgressions
@@wolfgangamadeusmozart1293 or because they dont like watching a what, 2 hour film of jesus being whipped in slow motion. Not something most people would watch
Man, so many nincompoops are complaining about the skits, but I love them! Great episode, so glad it's back! The skits make the memories of watching this movie almost tolerable.
I really want to know what the guy in that truck was thinking when he drove by at 25:20 Because he's just driving by and looks out the window to see 3 grown men, 2 dressed like Mario and Luigi while a third guy is laying there on the ground dressed like an old man.
As ridiculous as the idea of Jesus inventing the chair is, I do think that was a good scene, it showed that Jesus has a sense of humor, unlike many of his followers.
So.... Nostalgia Critic-Cinema Snob crossover The featured movie is the Passion of the Christ Critic shaved off the goatee again (RIP beardy 2008-2015) Santa Christ SOLD!
***** I like the way you think I think Gibson saw the bible a little differently then others This is why I love the south park episode that shows the effect the film had on people and it's end message (i says this as a none religious person)
I heard a story about this movie from a friend of mine. He and his family were vacationing in St. John over Easter and decided to watch this movie. Seems like a strange way to spend your Caribbean vacation, but who am I to judge? Anyway, since they were on vacation, they were also drinking a lot, and he was so smashed he couldn't follow the movie at all. He kept asking his family members, "Which one's Jesus?" in a slurred voice. Apparently, his family found this hilarious.
This review was terrible. Your subtitles say the Aramaic word “Akhat” means “big gulps”, when everyone knows the Aramaic for “big gulps” is “bodacious slurpees dude”.
That's not true. This film is 2 hours long. Not 3. And this movie is an accurate representation of the Sacrifice of Jesus. You do know the sacrifice was violent in real life, right? I mean if you never read the bible because of your ignorance that would be one thing
@@wolfgangamadeusmozart1293 the sacrifice is a fictional event written in 35 to 40 CE as a Passover play. There are no writings earlier than 85 CE which imply it was a real event. Pilate lost his governorship in real life for killing too many Jews. He never would have (1) released a killer of Romans (the released goat Barabus) or (2) killed someone because Jewish elders told him to.
@@geoffreysorkin5774 the sacrifice is not fictional, it is a real event that happened in order to save you, me and the rest of humanity. It was written in the four gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.
I think South Park spread across that message very well, AND even Critic praised them for it: "If you wanna be Christian, that's cool, but you should follow what Jesus taught, not how he died" I couldn't agree more. If you follow some religion and focus only what harm was done to it in some way, then you don't deserve that faith. That's like becoming Jewish just so that you can shame people for the Holocaust.
Actor Jim Caviezel has been struck by lightning while playing Jesus in Mel Gibson's controversial film The Passion Of Christ. The lightning bolt hit Caviezel and the film's assistant director Jan Michelini while they were filming in a remote location a few hours from Rome. Wow... it's actually true, but I don't think it was three times?
+ScarecrowRainseed They say that a key part of being a god or having any sort of power is belief...so just imagine that being a plot in some future comic book--Deadpool becoming a god and having temples and worshippers. :P That would be funny and amazing
What? Passion raised 612 million, Deadpool raised 761 million. "The Passion of the Christ is the highest grossing religious film, the third highest-grossing R-rated film in the United States and the highest grossing non-English-language film of all time" and "The film (Deadpool) has broken numerous box office records and became the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time, the highest grossing X-Men film, and the third-highest grossing film of 2016"
The Romans didn't actually crucify people like that. They would take a long board, tie it to the victim's wrists with rope, put the victim on top of a permanent pole and leave them there to suffocate to death (real crosses are capital Ts not lower case ts. Driving a nail through someone's wrist or ankle would make them die quickly. The real Romans wanted the victim to slowly asphyxiate over several hours while everyone else watched. That is real torture, not whipping someone for a few minutes and killing them via exsanguination. Also, the entire Passion is so blatantly fictional that any person who knows dick about Jewish traditions or history would laugh at the thought of it being real. The Romans would never release a murderer and would never do anything the Jewish leaders asked them to do. The Passion is a Passover story which substitutes two goats with two humans. Pilate literally lost his post because he was killing too many Jews (Rome was pissed that he was killing off his work force out of pure antisemitism.
Right! I went to leave a comment and the top comment was only 18 minutes old. Lmao. I had to check the upload date! I thought "Is this new?" Haha. Goes to show how _passionate_ some people can be :)
+Mario Quade they found a grave marked jesus belonging to a carpenter, but the thing about that is that Jesus was SUCH a normal name back then he may as well have been named Joe. I'm willing to believe there was a jewish cult of 13 dudes and a former whore running around Jerusalem back then, but there were thousands of such cults at the time all over the world.
Why do people still make fun of Jesus? Oh - that's right. It's more convenient than bashing Muhammad, the man who waged war, murdered, and married a 9-year old girl when he was over 50.
+Anton K Oh, so you're just pretending like Christians are persecuted in America, while at the same time bashing other religions with your typical hateful bullshit? Got it!
They show this in my school every Good Friday. Even to the kids that get EXTREMELY uncomfortable with two hours of torture porn being shown to them. I don't even care if you say "IT'S IMPORTANT TO SHOW HOW CHRIST SUFFERED!" This movie is NOT appropriate for children - or for ANYONE to be forced through for that matter. If you're going to watch it, fine, but watch it by choice and don't make your friends, family, or especially CHILDREN.
+TeamChaosPrez I saw it at 14...religious Baptist family. Honestly I was bored to death by most of it...but that just adds to what you said. Kids aren't going to "get" the movie, whether it's because they're young and the blood is bad for them, or older and wondering why torture porn is going on for 2 freaking hours.
This film is not a torture porn. It's an accurate representation of Christ's sacrifice. Children shouldn't watch this yet, but grown members in your families and grown friends must watch this. I'll watch this by choice too. You don't like it cause you're either an atheist or a sensitive person.
@@wolfgangamadeusmozart1293 the problem with the movie is that it’s entirely reliant on the audience knowing the source material. To anyone who doesn’t know the story of Jesus it’s just two hours of watching some dude get his shit kicked in. At best you can get the idea the Jesus was some cult leader and probably a decent dude but to anyone who isn’t already emotionally invested this movie is just gonna weird them out.
@@PikachuLittle correction: it's a masterpiece of two hours of watching our lord and savior giving up his life for us, with a few flashbacks from his ministry. People should know that Jesus was beaten and scourged horribly that you couldn't tell who he was anymore. What this movie is doing is showing an accurate representation of that. Other films like Jesus of Nazareth and heck, even The Last Temptation of Christ goes too lighthearted on the sacrifice, which I think it's disrespectful.
The bible says Jesus was beaten so badly that he was unrecognizable, even to His own mother. I can see why people would be thrown off by the goriness of the film but it was honestly not even close to the suffering he actually endured. Even though the message of the film could have been better I cannot deny that the cinematography was stunning and the actors were fantastic.
The Gospels never detailed much of how badly Jesus was beaten, most of these other violent descriptions come from non-canonical sources. To be honest, I highly doubt any man could survive the scourging scene alone, there's a reason why romans limited the amount of lashes one could deliver with the Cat O' Nine Tails whip to about 12. That whip rips the flesh of the prisoner to shreds and too many lashes could kill them, yet Jesus in this movie took way more than 12 lashes, lost more blood than the human body could have, and considering how much he was scourged his body was supposed to look way worse than that. The Passion isn't realistic nor is it historically accurate at all, also the demonized depiciton of the romans as violent, barbarian brutes who had this vindictive spirit towards Jesus and can't stop beating him unless forced by their commander is largely exaggerated. The Bible portrays roman soldiers and centurions in a much more positive light, most of them being merciful and just, one even asked Jesus to heal his servant. Surprisingly, very few mentions of sadistic brutality or injustice on their part are found on the scriptures.
Nobody could know for sure, but Jesus was beaten pretty badly, and then they put a crown of thorns on his head. As far as the Romans they could be barbaric, but they were no more than others at the time. That being said crucifixions were quite torturous, so anybody that went through one suffered quite a bit.
Getting this upset over a critique is unnecessary. Are people not allowed to analyze religious material or view it in a light that does anything other than approve of a belief system? Nothing is above critique/analysis. It can be the difference between faith and blind faith.
"It's not only the highest grossing religious film but it's also the highest grossing R Rated film" Ya... About that... *glances over at Deadpool* We have a new savior now...
this movie is actually the closest we'll ever get to see how Jesus actually looked when he died, just how much torture he went through. they say that when Jesus was crucified, his body was so pounded and scarred, that he was almost completely unrecognizable. It's a great movie because here we see how much he loves us by going through with all of this crap
Really? I think most people would be able to figure out that hours of government torture, followed by a Crucifixion, would hurt. Do they really need 2 hours of gore to understand that?
My mom was a pretty religious person though not very pushy about it. She bought this movie to see it out of curiosity because of her faith. She got as far as where the Roman soldiers keep whipping Jesus and she started cracking up. Why? Because the soldiers were acting so cartoonish they reminded her of the old WWF wrestling team The Bushwackers. At some point shortly thereafter the tape got stuck in the vcr, and my mom said that was kind of a sign from God that this was not a film to be taken seriously
People are legitimately getting offended by this review so I know it’s gonna be good. I’m just hoping they reference the episode of South Park. That’s one of my favorites.
Even when I was studying to be a pastor, I knew this wasn't a great movie. It's pandering and sign to be emotionally manipulative. And it's not great when a movie about a Jew seems to hate Jews
So wait a minute, how does a movie about Jews torturing another Jew "seem to hate Jews"? Something doesn't add up here. Besides, if anything, this movie seems to be more against the Romans than the Jews because they just keep laughing their asses off at the guy being tortured who in their eyes is just another Jewish sectarian.
It is important to criticize that which is sacred. It helps build understanding, informs of flaws and, prevents intolerance. The Criticisms given in this review are of the movie and not the actual biblical works it's based. Even if it were a critique of the bible it would be no different than those who defend it that also criticize beliefs other than their own. To say something can't be criticized is tantamount to censorship.
Santa Christ! Why did Nostlagia Critic betrayed him?! This explains why Santa Christ was angry at Critic and Cinema Snob in the 2016 Christmas crossover.
God has a sense of humor, people. Keep that in mind while you screech like "HOWWWWW DARE YOU" they keep their religious beliefs to themselves and only mock the merits of the movie. And the santa Christ sketch is showing basically "hey this is about as loyal a representation of the passion as the film was!" Which again, anyone who's read the Bible, seen a Passion play EVER or done ANY research about christianity, knows this is a crock of shit representation
Can you believe that Mel Gibson is making a literal sequel to this film! What the fuck- Jesus is dead after this movie ends! And according to reports it'll be from a quick quip in the book of Luke how he spent a few days in hell before ascending to heaven.
petroglyph888 oh I know, but oddly Gibson mentioned luke specifically. lol it'll probably be a weird amalgamation of all those. It was just weird he made a comment about a specific verse.
To those shitting on Brad and Doug for this review, I don't know what you were expecting. You should know what you were getting into when watching the Cinema Snob. At least, that's what I think.
It just seems to be a bunch of people defending this movie because "it's christian," completely ignoring the fact it pushes every possible theme and importance of the story they're telling to just make a gorey torture porn lol
@@TheQuashingoftheTub look it’s much easier to guilt people into blind faith than it is to portray someone being a genuinely good person making the world a better place.
