The Path to Isolation (feat. Casey Lee Williams) by Jeff Williams with Lyrics 

Hey everybody, I wanted to share an explanation that Casey gave about the lyrics “Scars that cover wounds can’t hide the self-inflicted pain.” These are purely metaphorical “scars.” Weiss is referencing the pain she experiences mentally, not physically! I hope this clears everything up for everybody that is worried Weiss self-harmed.

Can’t be a Weiss song without starting with a sad piano then getting some kickass drums and guitar at the end.

I think this explains why Weiss was such a jerk in season one. All she knew was hate and bitterness, and that's what came out of her. She didn't know right from wrong, and Ruby helped her get through her hard times.

I love how most of Weiss songs start out sounding fancy and probably one of those songs she’d sing for the rich class of Atlas but then they evolve into a punk song

The line from mirror mirror “I’m the loneliest of all”, line from this life is mine “a part of me that’s scared I might be wrong. That I can’t be strong”, and this song “looking in the mirror, I see someone that I don’t recognize.” Really show how Weiss doesn’t have an easy life, especially her past. All she could do is stay strong and forget about all the trouble her family causes. Once you think of it, she really was the loneliest. Her father only cared about himself and the SDC, her mother would always be alone and drinking, Winter is always busy with huntress stuff and she isn’t really the company type unless you want to be criticized, and Whitely just wants to follow his father’s footsteps so that just leaves Weiss, alone, and it’s very sad....

Weiss gets all the best themes. It's only natural, she has the best story material.

I haven't listened to this song in a couple years. It hurts so bad but I love it. This song describes what I'm going through right now. I feel so isolated. Hate myself. Nothing I love brings me joy anymore. I've tried so hard to fit in that I don't recognize myself anymore. And this song just encapsulates that so much and this proves to me that I'm not alone, it's not normal to feel like this but it's ok to recognize it and find help. I've started therapy and hopefully the next time I listen to this, it will be a memory of where I was and where I am then.

Me seeing ppl say this is the darkest RWBY song after years of thinking it was just a really good reflection of that one phase we all have where our very notion of self is destroyed and we consider and sometimes attempt suicide before failing and moving on, as you do Apparently that’s not normal and I had clinical depression

Jeff and Casey have only gotten better. I’m so happy their music has been with us through this whole journey.

Ok 3rd favorite RWBY song. Well, any song for Weiss makes me want to cry, not sure why. Probably the piano and the lyrics. Casey did great on this one! My favorite line is “looking in the mirror, I see someone that I don’t recognize.”

Not the comment section I was expecting to see on such a beautiful song... If Casey said Weiss doesn't self-harm, then that's that. No doubt she knows the meanings behind these songs better than any of us ever could. But "self-inflicted pain" is always going to resonate with people who've hurt themselves, so of course some people would interpret the line that way. Some people here got _way_ too offended by the idea of a character having an unhealthy coping mechanism.

This song is so much more powerful with Ice Queendom as reference. I wouldn't be surprised if Jeff and Casey were told about the basics of the plot of the anime all those years ago.

I’ve never related more to a song

Casey is most at home when she sings Weiss songs. Iunno why, but I can just get the feel essence of Casey in Weiss, probably cuz Weiss is also a singer in the series.

Anyone but me think that everything that happened on Weiss’s 10th birthday was a direct result of Nick Schnee’s death? Like after Nick died Jacques didn’t even need to pretend to be a loving family man anymore because there was no one around to take the company from him anymore so he just let his true colors show at the first available opportunity. I think “Liars and pretenders only seek to reach their ends” may partially be referring to Jacques

Honestly while this is a Weiss, song, this is a song that actually works for Ironwood as well. From how he was at the start of the volume to how he was at the end of vol 8.

Let's be honest Weiss always get's the best songs.

As i look at the lyrics...it shows perfectly how you feel when you're suffering from depression. You don't even recognize yourself in the mirror because of how empty you feel. Part with conflict also cilcks. Most people that suffer from depression do have a conflict between giving up or trying to fight back. My conclusion? Weiss may be either suffering from depression and be really good at hiding it from her team or the song is targeted towards people who are depressed to let them know that they have hope? I know i sound like an idiot.

This Is Why I Love Weiss’ Songs! Seriously, these songs fit *so well* like, the vocals in the beginning are more ghostly than most of her songs, except Mirror Mirror, which fits chronologically too seeing as this was her before she went to beacon. And as her songs progress it goes from “Why am I like this” to “Why are you/others like this” and it shows her gaining more confidence in herself. It totally works that most of her progression as a character happens in the songs because she is a singer, it’s all just so genius. I wrote way too much for this... and I could write more. I’m a musical theater nerd I’m all about these meanings in the music, sorry

The feeling you get, when a character's song connects deeply with you on so many levels that you see yourself in that character's place and feel their pain as if it's your own.

What is it that was so dear that she lost? When I listen I think that it’s maybe her mother kinda removing herself and becoming an alcoholic. I feel like this song is like a prequel to the other mirror mirror songs since the lyrics sound like they’re saying that the person she was at the beginning of the show or before she went to Beacon wasn’t the real her.

Her voice is getting so strong, it’s amazing to hear how much it grows over the years

I know it seems like it’s a rule that there must be a Weiss song in every volume, but damn, this continues to deepen my love her for her more and more.

Exactly everything in weiss's song that Jeff Williams composes. Is everything that goes on in my mind and heart. I'm 17 now, I've been listening since I was 11. Ever since "red like roses" came out. I don't know how to explain everything to my parents if it weren't for his songs. I thank him for everything. His talent, beauty, passion, and loyalty. I don't know where I would be.

Can we real quick appreciate how far Weiss has come in her character growth? Jeff and Casey did an amazing job conveying this through sound. Just listening to her songs from The Path to Isolation to This Life is Mine is enough to show how much better she is as a person to others, to herself. Amazing job Rooster Teeth for writing such a great character and Jeff and Casey for telling her story in song.
