Most railway companies of Britain had a fairly straightforward development for their goods stock.
The Brighton, was anything but.

Found this very fascinating, it never crossed my mind that LBSC wagons weren't really improved upon. This is why I love the IOW, pre-grouping stock and not a MK1 in sight! What a rare case. Look forward to seeing more videos on this channel hopefully, your production and presentation was very well done.

It's criminal that this doesn't have more views. The wagons of the LBSCR aren't something I typically think about (Great Western girl here), but it's always nice to learn more about stuff people don't tend to pay much attention to.

Got to say. For your first video you really hit it out of the Park. The LB&SCR is a often forgotten about part of railway history with it only being represented by only four classes of locomotives. The A1/x, B1, E1 and the E4. And yet they had an impressive array of Locomotives and rolling stock which sadly gets forgotten. If it wasn't for the Isle of wight and early preservationists that number could have been far less. In my own collection of southern locomotives my Billington K class 2-6-0 has to be my favorite just for how good they look and how reliable they were.
@gilbertporter4992
@gilbertporter4992 Год назад
Don't forget the 0-6-0 E2, as Thomas the Tank Engine was based off that locomotive.

The LBSCR is too often only remembered for the masterpieces of William Stroudley. However, the LBSCR did much to move railway technology forward in other areas such as the first use in Britain of electric carriage lighting in 1881 and the overhead elecrifification of its suburban lines form 1909 onwards.
@joshslater2426
@joshslater2426 4 месяца назад
The biggest shame is that only one post-Stroudley design has survived, which means no Marsh Atlantics (although there is the new build), no E2s, no K classes, no B4s, no Abergavenny and no Remembrance tanks.

@@joshslater2426 Totally agree. The B4's and the K class are two very good designs of loco. I'm grateful to have both of them in my model collection

Did the GCR actually make a van with a well as at 3:50? Or did a crate just DNKROZ it's way out the bottom of the wagon ? Hmm....

Just one question about your video, as you say the LBSC never adopted the RCH standards, how would you explain the D.1373 12T coal wagons of 1911? I don't have time to check other examples of that date at the moment, but those certainly met RCH standards, and we're ordered specifically to meet them
@RailwayPeculiarities-gt8zp
@RailwayPeculiarities-gt8zp Год назад
As I stated in the video, unless they were designed and/or ordered from outside forms, the LBSCR's wagons did not adhere to RCH standards, the vehicles you've specified were designed by the RCH and the LBSC.
@OakHillModelRailway
@OakHillModelRailway Год назад
@@RailwayPeculiarities-gt8zp So you are saying they did adopt RCH standards, despite your claim that they didn't? They are LBSC wagons, built specifically for the purpose of meeting the RCH specifications, saying that they didn't adopt them is extremely misleading

@thestainmorephoenix8632
@thestainmorephoenix8632 Год назад
@@OakHillModelRailway Lemme lay it out in layman's terms-The LBSCR didn't adhere to the RCH's standards and did their own thing. By the early to mid 1900's, prior to the grouping, the RCH built wagons with the LBSCR's Help that would meet RCH standards. Those built before 1910 or even 1900 were transferred to the Isle of Wight, where the railway there ran at reduced speeds and with engines and coaches just as old, if not older.
@OakHillModelRailway
@OakHillModelRailway Год назад
@@thestainmorephoenix8632 except that's not how it happened, let me explain in layman's terms, this video is poorly researched and inaccurate. As for the IoW LBSC equipment was transfered there because it was an air braked line, much like the LBSC, but the rest of the Southern network wasn't, so LBSC equipment was already fitted with the correct brake gear and didn't need modifications like things from other railways did when they were transferred

I notice a number of subtle references to Thomas the Tank Engine and the island of Sodor. I wonder how many other people caught them? (Hint, that was the docks at Sodor and Henry the crane.)
