Ever since Joker, I have been wanting a Penguin origin movie. But unlike Joker, which was a psychological crime film, Penguin would be a gangster movie showing his rise to power.
Marvel did for a time, but they kept on twiddling their thumbs because of Feige’s ego and those shows not being overseen by his division. Save for Echo, and even that is mid, it’s mostly meh. Most of the shows would’ve been far better as movies. Honestly? I’d rather them have the shows be like their own thing save for the briefest crossovers because the MCU is already nearing being inaccessible to mainstream audiences like the comics. And I don’t know many who read American superhero comics for a variety of reasons already. I just pick and choose what I want to watch at this point anyways.
People will root for the Penguin even if he will be a villain. In the series Gotham, Penguin was a ruthless and cunning villain but his character was so strong it was natural to like him. Well, keeping the last episode aside.
I tihnk this show could also be a good introduction to characters who could rival Penguin such as the Great White Shark, and introduce an obscure villain like the Broker I can kind of imagine the Broker being a rival turned ally to the Penguin who could be the one supplying Penguin with his resources and hideouts and GWS can be Penguin's rival
I think the show should add some other classic Batman villains. Ones who come to mind can be scarecrow because when I saw that thug in the tear drop like mask at the beginning of the Batman who was robbing the store I thought it was scarecrow. He could be near being some underground arms dealer selling his fear gas as a weapon. Then the one that is most likely would be black mask as he would just make a natural rival to penguin. Also maybe as another crime boss can be the ventriloquist as Scarface can be a good piece of world building showing the need for Arkham asylum and all the criminally insane people in Gotham and ca. help transition to the introduction of the joker. Maybe anarchy in a design similar to the Arkham games can be some person trying to continue the riddlers movement. Great white shark makes sense as a weaker crime boss and being the first taken down. Also maybe victor zsasz and/or calendar man being shown a bit showing the seedy underbelly of Gotham. Maybe for a season finale 2 parter Oswald burns Harvey dent but actually creates two face.
I really like when villains seem vulnerable in stories... this dude look like he almost got whacked several times in here. In the end of the day he's just a guy trying to get on top afterall.
