"As I always say, my photos are more often boring than they are blurry." - Oh Juan, I've looked at a lot of your photos, and none of them was boring! Thanks for this review. I'm considering getting an MX-1, and your review easily convinced me that it's a very good idea. Cheers! //Rick
Apparently the Olympus XZ-1 is a very very similar camera (allegedly same guts and lens) and I can attest to the Oly IQ and colours however in my search for the perfect "carry everywhere" camera I've found myself lost and torn about finding a camera that is small, powerful and ultimately super customisable, I've considered getting an MX-1 but like most things pentax/ricoh, it is largely overpriced and very hard to get ahold of, so unless I stumble across one at a vintage cam shop or just general bootsales I fear I will never get one due to the lack of availability
Wow those infrared photos are incredible !!! I just bought this camera after I got a GR III from Ricoh same as you used the GR II alongside it and will see how well It does for me. I used FUJI X100V before but prefer Ricoh/Pentax colours hopefully I will like it because the features are so useful at such a low price point in 2024
Thank you for the overview and your demonstrable application of this camera's assets....This video does what it was tended to do...inform from the perspective of a photographer. Thank you Juan....Cheers from British Columbia
We both have black MX film cameras!! Good taste! I like the small sensor cameras for the 110 like effect they can get. I have a similarly specced Olympus that still sees occasional use, but most days I bring my X100V.
I was too lazy to go get the second black MX for the video 🙂 Also, in 2020 I found a black ME-Super (that was my first SLR, but in silver) for $25. Couldn't resist that one either.
@@JuanBuhler I still have my first SLR, a Silver body ME Super. I bought it new in mid 1980’s. I keep it out on a special shelf with my 1970’s cool camera strap.
I did not know that the Ricoh DB-65 and Pentax D-Li106 are the same battery. (I assume the different names date back to before Pentax became part of Ricoh.) I already have a GRD4 and GR2, so that almost makes me want to try the MX-1 again. Almost. . . I did have one before, and I was put off by its sluggish operation and what seemed to me like lackluster image quality, as compared with my Pentax Q7. Incidentally, the Pentax Q series and the Fujifilm XF1 also share battery compatibility. The XF1 one is another stylish, premium pocket camera that ought to be right up my line, but somehow I never quite meshed with it.
Hi, i'm trying to sell Silver edition one but i live in Indonesia. Please let me know if you want to buy it. I would like to share my email but obviously it didn't follow the guidelines. Let me know where to contact you.
Thanks to your review and several others here on RU-vid I took the plunge and purchased a like new MX-1 off Ebay. I've had it for about 3 months now, and I love it! I have one question that I am hoping someone can help with. Has anyone found/purchased a tempered glass screen protector that actually fits? The screen already had a few minor abrasions on it when I purchased it. So I bought the" plasticy" one from Expert Shield. It does the job for now, but it too scratches very easily. Any help would be appreciated!
The protector I have is also plasticky, I think it's the one you find on eBay searching for "MX-1 screen protector". It has been there for a few years though and only has a few scratches, so I'm not too worried!
The only thing I don't like about this camera is that there's no exposure preview. I have no problem metering on DSLRs but I can't get comfortable when shooting mirrorless cameras without exposure preview for whatever reason.
Interesting. I do OK with just the exposure under/over display in manual. Other than that a quick sanity check every now and then and I haven't gotten too many badly exposed images.
Thanks! Either Lightroom or an old version of Silver Efex Pro. Still using the one from when Nik Collection was free, I recently tried the newer one and wasn't too impressed with the interface, Maybe I should make a developing video!
@@JuanBuhler creo que naciste en Argentina he leído, entonces me expreso mejor en español...que ajuste sueles poner en cámara, Automático (modo P) Av, manual, ? Es que no consigo sacar tan buenas fotos como tú con la MX1...
FWIW, it's a "Flipbac FBG1 Camera Grip" I see it at a couple of places for $40, which is a crazy price for a small piece of rubber with some 3M tape. I paid $9.95 for it in 2019
I was talking about the GR II from 2014, the 16MP APS-C one. I have the GRD IV and it is great, but the GR II is always going to be one of my main cameras.
My zoom got stuck for a long while, retired it but now it works again. Magically. I don't dare to rely on it, though. But it has given me some great images. Quality was much better than I understood when I originally bought it. Very much like the Q it has a very film like grain and the raws are A+.
@@mexitegel have not had a problem yet. My battery door latch is sticking a tiny bit the microphone for concerts has the best self regulating levels of any camera I have used. Very good for social media.
