Enjoyed your video. Many Thanks. Can't agree with you more; I bought a 6 months' old Superb SE L diesel dsg estate 150hp with 6 thousand miles on the clock from a Skoda franchised dealer at the beginning of this month. Huge saving as compared to a 40K new Superb with same spec. So far so good and are enjoying the car tremendously. This came with no surprise to me since this is the second Superb I own. The first one was a 2015 Superb Elegance DSG diesel 170bp estate. It gave me 96k miles and 8 years of trouble free travel; mainly on motorways in France and Spain. Had to sell it due to the recent ULEZ expansion and it was a EURO 5 car. The new one is even more enjoyable and impressive. It managed to achieve almost 70 mpg in a recent 120 miles trip on the motorway!! The adaptive cruise control is definitely a joy to use. The standard 18" wheels with thicker tyre wall make the new Superb even more comfortable to ride than the old one with 19" wheels and low profile tyres. By the way, I managed to put a full size Pashley gents bike into my old one. Haven't tried it in the new one yet.
Skoda's have been great cars for a fair few years now... Great value for money and good performance. Massively underrated in my view. A very fair review Pedro... Thanks
I’m a taxi driver & I’ve driven a BMW 520d/ Mercedes 220d E Class. The car which I drive now is a 2 litre SE L Estate 150 bhp & it is the best car I’ve ever owned, I do a lot of long distance driving & it is so comfortable & quiet. I would really recommend it to anyone.
Just traded my 22 reg BMW 520d M Sport for a 73 reg Suberb 2k on the clock for £28,250. The Skoda is a better car. The BMW broke down twice and BMW couldn't tell me what went wrong!
The saloon shape with a hatch back was one of the useful features on the mark 2 Superb we had the size of the hatch was such that you often didn’t need all of the access space, but on that with the TwinDoor mechanism you could open just the boot part, or open the full hatch - the newer version it seems slightly pointless. Having run a mark 2 for about a decade when our kids were small, it definitely is great as a family car, we did over 100,000 in ours with lots of long trips - plenty of space for the kids and all the luggage.
Great video. I have the 190bhp diesel l&k, its fantastic car for munching motorway miles, easily 65+mpg and 70+mpg on run. I love the adaptive cruise, cavernous boot and rear seats. One thing that's worth mentioning is the controls are manual, as in knobs and buttons no touch buttons FTW
I love my Superb estate (my bike fits no problem). Perfect accompaniment to my MX-5. I think the outgoing model looks a bit sharper than the new one too.
LOL, the name Superb was first picked by Škoda (then unified with Škoda in Pilsen which was larger!) in the 1930s and it only meant that it was the most expensive model range in the Škoda's portfolio, there was really no ambition to compare the car to the other companies' cars. But don't get me wrong, if you compare it, it just happens to be an OK name.
My first Robin Reliant was superb, unlike my GPz900's, it had a floor to put speakers on, and windscreen wipers. I drove it to Skye about 8 times, slowly. It was a much, of more fun than the Nissan SX200, seven hour blast, TBH. It's all relative, but I prefer visceral.
Hello Peter! A friend had a 170 bhp Estate version running up 160,000 miles when he sold it “before something goes wrong”! He was delighted with the size, comfort, practicality and reliability. I recall him saying that 60+ mpg was just normal daily experience so that Press car sounds a bit thirsty. Bought at the right price, it really is a “Superb” car!! 🙂🙂🙂🫢😬😃Richard
Another great review! I got put off Skoda when I have a Fabia curtesy car back in 2018. It had a horrible bouncy ride and terrible interior. Although this looks another level of quality and ride. So maybe they have all been improved. With you on the nearly new purchasing. Saved a huge amount of money buying my Civic ex demo on a 72 plate in Jan. Also if you go ex demo you can sometimes get some expensive options in on the cheaper price that you'd probably never pay for on a brand new one.
I definitely recommend test driving an Octavia/Superb. The Fabia is their budget model, and the ride quality is one of the main things sacrificed to achieve that (and of course interior quality). The Octavia and Superb are much smoother, and the difference in the interior is night and day. The newest generation Fabia is definitely an improvement, and still beats other mini-hatchbacks out there for its intended audience, but still doesn't compare to the higher models.
I wonder if the ride quality and interior of the Fabia dropped over time? Our family runs a pair of 2005 Fabias and the sweet ride quality and interior is what keeps us holding onto them.
@VintageLynx I always felt like it was the opposite and they were getting better - although I'm probably slightly biased because my 2008 Fabia is the S trim, so it's extremely dull. It is pretty crazy that you can factory order a 2024 Fabia SE trim, and it'll still have the manual winding windows it the rear. I thought those were a thing of the past years ago
@@itsmikedev yes I thought so too. Just the original comment mentioned bouncy ride and poor interior in a model 13 years newer than my Fabia - which definitely doesn't have such ride quality. It's sold and firm. Maybe because its got the heft of a 1.9 turbo diesel rather than 3 cylinder. But I've never tried the later models. Something for me to do. I'm interested to compare.
Skoda superb is just superb and as a long time Octavia fan that I just switched to Superb I can affirm that is on a different level than the whole Skoda line-up (but I did not drive a kodiak ). howevere you got the wrong engine. To suit the potential of the car as a comfy floaty cruiser you need the 280 ps engine paired with the dcc, It won't make a sport car by any means, just a very relating car to drive. Also if possible get one with Canton Sound and tinted windows with sound isolation for a nice atmosphere inside.
When you put something big like a bike, just take that cover off smh it pissed me off how you struggled in this easy test lol. My smaller octavia fits the bikes
The smart person's Audi. Shhkoda make excellent cars but l don't understand why they charge for things like Lane Assist. It should be standard, even though l would always turn it off. 😊
Blind spot monitoring and a towbar put it over the £40k threhold for VED. What an idiotic spec. All that extra tax for pretty much nothing. Well, the towbar might be useful, but could have been added later.
Only take my saddle off if the bike is going in it’s flight case as it has been fitted professionally for me and I don’t want to miss up the saddle height 😂
I think you gave up too early with the bike if you had removed the parcel shelf and put it an angle I am convinced it would have gone in. The tow bar negates the need though with a tow bar mounted carrier mind you your bike at the price of the build I would be putting it in the back on the most padded fluffiest Duvet money can buy and probably a few pillows thrown in for good measure. For the car a pretty good package and it can't be bad or it wouldn't be the car favoured by the taxi drivers. I also love that colour if it is the same as the VRS blue.
@@TheAllyMorIt's a single screw or even better on my bike it's a lever. You can open and close it within seconds. This was just a poor demonstration. I would have fitted two bikes easily without removing the wheels. Two can be fitted with the front wheel removed and only one seat dropped instead of all shown in the video.
at 41k this falls into the £500 plus road tax Dealers are having trouble selling ice cars or hybrids over 40k because of the high road tax I do think it’s unfair that a 2 ton 60k electric car is still exempt from this charge .
Most mid size plus cars are now falling into this price bracket. Government are raking it in. They need to up the threshold to as you say 60k now. Inflation being a big factor
For the best bargains I also buy my cars at 1-2 years old & low miles. I'm on my 2nd Superb Estate & it's the most practical car ever. My 1st Mk2 Superb was a 2.0 diesel which regularly did 60+mpg on my daily 80 mile commute. My current MK3 Superb is a 2016 280 L&K petrol with 360bhp & 4 wheel drive which I've had since 2018. Now I'm retired so I don't do huge mileages anymore & don't worry about the fuel consumption so much. That said the current Superb will do 38mpg on a run but around town it's nearer 28mpg. It's a marvellous carry-all Q car that will be very hard to replace when the time comes.
I've got the Superb SE L 220 DSG, it's all the power you really need in a FWD, anything more like the 280 then you'll need the AWD. In terms of styling, comfort, power, practicality and reliability, this is really it. Had a few scoff at the badge but whatever, for the price I got it, this goes onto the motorway confidently and comfortably, and any long distance driving is just all that easier with the adaptive cruise control and auto hold system. The boot can store several bodies at a time with space in the back for your passengers.
I had two Merc E class estates prior to my Superb SEL Exec. The Mercs' boot space was/is 100mm wider but the Superb's is much easier to use and has more height. My Superb is nearly 10 years old and cost me £13k two years ago but delivers everything I need and looks like new except for a few minor scuffs upfront and wheels that could do with a refurb. Simply no point in paying more. Serviced well these cars will last a very long time.
Sportline Plus is an odd car. Its basically a Superb SE which has been kitted with Sportline livery; seats steering wheel etc. I'm on my fourth Superb; all estates. I had a Sportline 190ps DSG..It was ok. Quite harsh on the roads with 19" wheels. My last two cars have been the SE L 150ps TSI DSG. I think this is much more typical of Superbs spec and interior. My last buy was in 2022 and I bought new, mainly because of the Covid effect which dramatically increased trade in values and made it a very good time to change. I dont like the interior of the new model including the big screen and the dials setup. Ill.probably keep my current car for a long time as I'm retired now and mileage is not high. Ive had mercs and BMW in the past. I think thd Superb is the best car Ive ever owned.
Good proposition indeed. Instead of an Audi a Skoda needs to be practical end well thought out. Love the design of the Audis but if you have to put down well earned cash the Skoda is the way to go.
I think they're a bit big and stodgy compared to the Octavia. The 4x4 Sportline is the most interesting for me, but they you pay a heavy penalty on fuel consumption. I would pick the Octavia, unless I really HAD to have the extra legroom in the back. (Which is why I bought an Octavia). The DCC option on the Superb improves the driver experience, as you can stiffen up the suspension for sporty driving and then relax it for day to day comfort. But if you just want a comfortable, roomy car to waft around in, the Superb is, well superb.
I find it amusing when you comment on the infotainment system. In my own car apart from the ever on Sat Nav screen the rest has been turned off for about three months. I have this problem that I like to talk to my passenger, my wife. I cured the 'will it fit' on my bike by having a quick release for the saddle stem. No need to remove wheels! The rear screen wipe is very useful in heavy rain at slower speeds, esp if you need to reverse.
Hi I’ve got a 66 plate 190 DSG Sportsline hatch and i love it. Bought it at 7 months old and love it. Fuel is good can get 50+ watching what im doing going to work. 42 if im late LOL Only drawback is that its a bit low for getting in and out. But apart from that its been great.
Hi, Just got myself L&K 2023 with loads of spec for £34k. 5k miles. 48k when it was new! I mean, brand new😂. Waiting for delivery next Monday. So excited! (About Scoda😂) Good day to you all😊
We have done just that, ordered a stock Superb iv estate - the plug in hybrid version, identical under the skin to my VW Arteon hybrid which replaces my wife’s Kamiq Monte Carlo. As you said, a lot of car for the money!
I have a pre-facelift 2019 Superb 1.6 TDi with 120 HP. Enough for me, doesn't feel slow at all. It feels like an upgrade in comparison with my old Avensis which was faster on paper.
Got a 6 month old 280tsi 4x4 in 2018 and it has been rock solid. Buckets of space, comfortable, has all the toys I need, including heated windscreen. Doesn't have the adaptable suspension but the sport line set up is very good. Its fair to say there's more fuel-efficient cars out there but it's not expensive to run. It's definitely designed as a cruiser but will get up and go if needed. I keep thinking of changing it for something shorter for parking in town, but actually at the minute I feel I'd only be disappointed in anything else.
I have a 2017 Skoda Superb SE Technology Estate 2L 150 BHP diesel, brilliant motor has everything you need and wow the boot is enormous. Lovely to drive and easy on the juice. Very pleased with it. 😎👍
Peter the Superb wagon is even more roomy. It is almost the answer to our housing shortage. In Australia the Superb and the Octavia come with a cooled glovebox and centre console. With the aircon on and the cool air turned on it really does keep my beer (German) cold in the Aussie heat. They are great cars let down by inferior dealer support. There are some issues with the cars and it would not be difficult to live with, if you knew that you were not going to have difficulty with a claim for repair. Our Lexus had problems, we arrived at the dealer, they gave us a curtesy car, attended to the issue and called us when it was fixed. They offered to bring the car to us and pick up the curtesy car. Skoda said they would have to make an application to headoffice, and they would get back to me later, in the mean time, that is $2000 and we will bring the car around to the front for you. It took 6 calls, six calls before they honoured the warrantee and they were not very nice about it either.
Never again will I complain about our car market here in Australia. A new Superb 206Tsi 4wd Sportline Wagon costs around $AUD70k (35k GBP?), yet as standard comes with most "options" ticked, including adaptive suspension, 3-zone climate, keyless entry, spare wheel, rear camera, blind spot monitoring, auto parking, adaptive cruise control etc. In fact the only model Superb you can buy in Australia is the 206kW 4x4 version, either Wagon or Sedan. Previously the 2.0l 162kW FWD version was also available. We are not getting the new Superb until 2025.
I'm watching the prices fall atm, I'd consider trading my Leon estate for one, it'd have to be the 2.0 tsi 190 or the IV, otherwise I'd feel too slow as I've got the 1.4 tsi in my Leon.
The original Superb's had a split hatch opening system where (if I remember correctly) the tail would open fully or you could open the rear screen portion. It also had the range topping 3.6 v6 4x4 and that was a monster to drive. I drove one briefly on an airfield while I was on a 4x4 driving course back in 2009. I think you'd like the current 2 litre 4x4 Superb with 290 bhp, but there's no vRS trim level in the Superb range which I find odd as you can have the Octavia, Enyaq and Kodiaq in vRS trim...
True but I only take the saddle off if putting it in a flight case and the bike was very precisely fitted and the battery for the gears is in the seat tube 👍
Bike fitted very precisely so don’t like moving it. Dropping post would scratch the carbon. Taking it out only done when flying as the battery for the gears is in the post 👍
In New Zealand a new 2024 Superb estate 2.0 TSI 4x4 206KW Sportline with every extra you can think of including heated steering wheel, heated front and rear seats, panoramic sunroof costs less than 35K, pounds sterling.
I just bought this exact car - just different color 😊 - I love it so much that my wife is driving my Octavia RS even I bought Super for her. I drove Skodas all my life - I started in a Felicia 1.3 GLX- and I wouldt change the badge for anything else
I considered one but I found an x3 30d for similar money and its a much nicer car with a proper engine, found the high spec superbs too expensive (this was for an outright purchase, I would imagine skoda are quite a lot better on monthlies when bought new)
I've recently become the owner of a 2018 1.4ACT DSG Estate. First order of business was try to load up the monstrous boot space (660litres) with luggage for two and point it from Wigan to Oban for week. On the motorway its simply sublime with an excellent Active Cruise Control setup even on my near poverty spec (SE) ex fleet example. Actually even whilst poodling around Scottish A Roads the ACC worked well if I was feeling lazy and if anything was getting better fuel consumption then when driven without. (Overall we got abou 45mpg average over the week)
Oh and I should add, the limo like leg room in the back means when we carry the grandkids around in their kiddy seats they're not kicking you in the kidneys as happened with my Old Ceed and my GFs OG Ioniq
Drop the through.axle out the front wheel and buy a smaller car then. I've got my full sus mt bike in my Yaris boot with the front wheel off, come on....
I have the Kodiak TSI 150PS, for 98% of the time the power is perfectly adequate, sure, on the very odd occasion I so wish I had some more power but the permanent lower running costs far outweigh the very occasional need for more poke.
love Skodas but they depreciate very badly when they are favourite vehicles for taxi's - superbs, octavias and rapids are all chosen because they are well built and reliable but youd be a fool to buy one brand new at top wack price
Most surprising part of the video is that someone would actually specify lane keep assist never mind pay for it , got it standard on my Hyundai and worse feature ever, no option to permanently turn it off so have to do that on every trip..
Got a 23 plate Sportline Plus hatch as new (everything still in the celophane) with about 800 dealer miles on. Love the car, as is stated many times over a brilliant pracitical family car, all the space in the world. Apple play convenience, enough poke in the 2L petrol and very refined. Just a super relaxing place to be and perfect for long journeys. Not a better car for the money - mine was a shade under £30k (list is over £42k). The outgoing Sportline has better looks to me than the new SE L models. I imagine a sportline style might come but Im not gonna be ponying up over £45k which I imagine it would list for.... For reference Ive had three Octy vRS in the past so I appreciate the brand.
Our "other" car is a 2013 Superb estate 1.8t 4WD. 120k miles and, regularly serviced, still going strong. It's big enough for 1 person to sleep in, which I do on my occasional jaunts into the countryside. I'd really like a new one though!
Excellent video Ped. I’ve always admired Skoda as a brand, I had one of the early Octavia’s back in 1999, a 20v 5 cylinder, loved that car. Your review had me straight on Autotrader afterwards looking at Skoda Superbs, although I couldn’t find any brand new £33k cars you referenced. In respect of the bike, I would have dropped the seat rather than remove the wheels. Keep up with the great content.
I'm 6'4" with a XL framed hybrid bike and I can fit mine in the boot (wheels on, seat in place) with the seats down and parcel shelf removed. You can put the parcel shelf propped up behind the front seats. Fantastic car in Dragon Green
Agree with you Pete about buying nearly new, bought a 1yr old Mazda 3 Sky active X with only 1850 miles on and £1500 worth of Extras on it and saved £6500 over new. Do not think you have ever reviewed a Mazda I think you would be surprised at the interior quality and great mpg you get.. Skodas have really upted their game recently.
Buying an outgoing model really worked for my Dad. He bought a Peugeot 405 STi by sealed bid. When it arrived the mileage in the description was 7,200. The car had actually done 2,700 miles. It was on one of Peugeots directiors fleet.
I seriously considered a Superb estate (bike related!) a few years back. The deals on them were crazy, but ultimately went elsewhere. It was a tough call, and come the time I maybe looking at a car in the future, Skoda would be very close to the top of the list.
Yup, as a fellow cyclist can confirm NO bike goes in a car both wheels on unless back seats flopped!!!! Even get it in boot with just front wheel off it a miracle !!!!
I can get a road bike in a Skoda Rapid, I am only 167cm tall so it is a 50cm frame and saddle to BB length is a lot less than you. I would buy the new Superb PEV estate if I had the cash.
My Bianchi goes in with the parcel shelf out and I've got gibbon legs so have a high saddle too. On my second Superb Estate, I now have the Sportline 4x4 190bhp diesel. I find it struggles a bit off the line, bogging down a tad if you want to get out onto a busy roundabout. I think this is the AWD (?) as my last 170bhp Superb Estate didn't suffer with this. I do Belgium and back in a day a couple of times a year and no problems at all. Recently bought a mid life crisis Jaguar F Type and although that is great, it makes you realise what an fantastic car the Superb is.
I have a 2020 Octavia with the same engine as this Superb so its MPG is 57-60 on a run and mid 40s around town. Both amazing really. The infotainment is definitely gen 1 and despite updates remains pretty poor. It works but I understand the new versions coming in now are way better. Lovely cars - never had a problem with them (this is my second)
I would AVOID skoda altoghether. or if you get one make sure you have good warranty . The story huge skoda fan own a rapid spaceback and octavia estate 18 and 68 plate with 35 and 45 k miles. Rapid spaceback owned since 10 k miles mostly motorway miles done . Had all in warranty on rapid spaceback flagged to the dealer multiple times that i have issues with engaging gears intermittent mostly reverse , been fobed off by dealer every time nothing checked or fixed at some point due me kicking off theyve got a mechanic to tell me thst all skodas have a notchy gesr lever / gearbox. Well last week car got stuck in reverse gear . And now engaging gears with difficultyAlongside noisy tensioners pulleys boot struts that giving up Silika gel packet that i am planning to remove , my cars have been incredibly well cared for , 6 oil services in 35 k miles and due 7th one . Octavia estate dsg with noisy flywheel low milage 47 k. HugEy disappointed with skoda brand Over time ive owned around 25 different cars. Planned obsolescence
That's sad to hear. I'd be annoyed too. The early Skoda models like 2003 to 2007 were (and still are) very reliable. Hard to wear them out. It does seem like they are less rugged and engineered than they used to be. Maybe I'm wrong there but the whole VW brand has changed.
is it just me or are skoda getting better and more and more people are clicking on the skoda brand for space also value formoney. iv had the skoda kamiq for just over a year and love it to bits with 400 boot space plenty of leg room front and back. and theenyaq is a taris on wheels. you need a long term skoda in your life
