I worked with a Somatic Experiencing Therapist and she told me that everything I was going through fitted into the diagnosis of PTSD: Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and I needed to not let anyone else call me by other labels. This was very encouraging, so I wouldn't think of myself as crazy.

So many people get tragically misdiagnosed by uninformed Professionals with Bi-polar or Borderline because of these cycles when in fact they have C-ptsd or Ptsd causing EVEN more trauma. It happened to me. Here's a question for you Dr Aimie: What are they teaching in colleges?? I don't GET IT!

It’s my life story as a conscientious adult. Bingo every one of those points, though therapies including an eight week Dr.Gabor Mate course & 6 Empathic Inquiry treatments, plus EMDR, plus Resourcing plus plus…I’ve limited the guilt-shame pattern but the dam isolation is more comfy at 71 than sitting uncomfortably in a Woman’s Full Moon circle trying to find a friend, knowing my idea is not likely to succeed in the end. Wow just realizing I’m setting myself up to not achieve my goals of meeting a partner! 😮❤

Thank you very much for explaining this, it helps for understanding the experience of someone going through these extreme ups and downs. How frustrating and discouraging it feels, I suppose, to see the unwanted consequences of one's behavior, and yet find oneself repeating the same behavior time after time...

Thank you, Dr Aimie! I love what you are teaching. Over the past 20 years, I have used a technique on myself to overcome my ACEs and now feel relieved of most of these symptoms that you describe. I would have never healed to the degree that I have without this technique. No amount of talking therapy would have healed me of my past.

Wow... I discovered all the traits in my ex boyfriend. I diagnosed him (in my mind) with BPD NPD and ASPD, even Psychopathy. I watch and suffered from his behaviour for 1,5 years. From clues what he mentioned and what I understand now from you, that this was caused by a severe traumatic childhood. I had to leave to save myself, fighting with cptsd for almost 2 years and feeling better now. I couldn't help him, with my love. He became extremly abusive and dominating and I was in constant pain and disappointment and confusion. But it's very validating what you say, I sensed all his underlying issues. Very sad. He adressed his issues with lots of alcohol, weed and cocaine. I am traumatized now.

Thank you for sharing, Karen. I'm glad you were able to detach with love. It is possible lot see the underlying pain and trauma as the reason for another person's hurtful actions and words, love them dearly, and yet need to maintain an emotional and physical distance to maintain our own physical and mental health. It does not mean we love them any less!

Didn’t realize we get critical of our partners being all or nothing- she reminded me of the emotion concept I created for my self that I feel at times “f**k you” as a sort of rebellious emotion concept in terms of the being fiercely independent.

Ok this sounds terribly like people with "NPD" which I know is usually caused by trauma, but the thing is these people are nevertheless abusive !! Also they usually don't want to change are not helped with traditional therapy. I hope new ways of treatment are found to lead to real change. Is there a distinction though..? Many ppl with NPD seem to know their behaviors are hurtful but they "can't stop" or its the only way they can be.

It's either one extreme or another and makes me think of a nervous system that's dysregulated and doesn't have a healthy baseline. It's been very informative listening to this video and helped to fill in the blanks, thank you I'm understanding even more about CPTSD..What would you recommend to unfreeze the nervous system? Am thinking of either having CranioSacral therapy or dance movement with sensorimotor therapy but not sure.

I P i intuitively learned to unstuck myself with repetition.I try to imagine situations that would put me into an high alert mode.I do this all the time 24/7 for me its the only cure.im doing this for over a year and i dont feel the same urge to dissociate and numb out. i can be more assertive now because im only in fight flight stance now so i can build enough awareness to have boundaries ...it may sound detrimental but try it out...don t dwelve into trauma memories,just think about stuff that will turn you to be allert.After a few months i started to invest less energy to think about life in this way. and my symptoms started to be less demanding of attention.

the list of traits (behavioral patterns, tendencies) sound a lot like someone with a disorganized attachment style and/or someone with BPD.

Can also be someone who has CPTSD. Speaking from experience. My behaviors and reactions have all had to do with trauma and flashbacks, and not being able to consciously remember most of my traumas because of a head injury as a kid, and the combination of dissociation. So I was reacting to things that my body and brain recognized as relating to traumatic memories, without the context of knowing why the heck I was even reacting. I genuinely felt crazy for a while. Not fun. It’s taken 3 years of trauma therapy and working with my nervous system in various ways to mostly calm myself the crap down.
@srmillard

@@Elya08 100% agree BPD is caused/developed by CPTSD, typically 1+ parents with a Cluster B PD
