I was watching RRL's video and when i saw that u did a vid on Deus Ex i was like IM GOING OVER THERE The Deus Ex Games are actually the best video games ever imo
The reviewer is clearly misunderstanding the root ideas behind the DX story’s. In the 80’s 90’s the Alex Jones conspiricy theory’s of the right where the flavor dejur of the left of the past. Then it was Oliver Stone and art bell. The reviewer is an idiot trying to force a story into his world view and limited understanding of this concept not understanding where these long standing conspiricy theories come from and why they seem to be so prophetic. Dues ex, half life, beyond good and evil where all games with a message of distrust the government, authority is always evil, the news is a lie and rebellion is good. They where all made during the second era of the Bush dynasty and republican control. At this time, this was the lefts talking point. Resist the government, the truth is out there, everything is a vaster conspiracy like that GW bush himself fought the second Iraq war over some personal desire to harm the guy his dad fought? Or that it was all secretly a plan to steal oil. Or that dick Chaney personal orchestrated the problems at Enron. That GW ordered the attack on 9/11 to orchestrate a situation where martial law could be enforced. All of those ideas where commonly held and openly discussed on the left at the time. Under Obama the left changed to trust the gov, conspiracy’s are insane and rioting and rebellion is bad. So now, a politically uninitiated or low info consumer...or an idiot, like the reviewer, sees DX and it doesn’t mesh with the modern liberal world view that larger government is good, that conspiricy are not real and believing them is a sign of illness or that new is all propaganda designed to mislead. A trip back to the days of Howard stern, art bell and Roger stone to name a few might surprise our host that in the 70-80’s and 90’s the average democrat believed the world bank was a shadow gov, FEMA was a secret police and AIDS was a genetically engineered plague to reduce the worlds population by more then half. And that last one was so widely accepted it was a major talking point of Zach delarocha, front man for pro communist , anti government, pro conspiricys liberal mega band rage against the machine. Who’s name itself is a reference to a conspiricy theory. The reviewer is not looking at the message of the game in relation to the mind set and the time it was made in. Also, this channel generally sucks.
If only they had actually finished the game... Both the main and side quests are as unfinished as Jensen's experimental augments. We only get the ilusion that our choices matter. Even worse, the ending very much implies Jensen is actually spying for the Illuminati to uncover Janus identity
Something I just realized: Mankind Divided is set in Prague. The Augs live in Golem City. In Jewish mythology, the golem was created by a rabbi living in Prague to protect the Jewish community. The golem went out of control and started killing anything it deemed a threat, to the point that the king of Prague personally begged the rabbi to destroy the golem.
@@funkydownthe Golem story doesn’t. It’s specifically set in Prague and the rabbi who created the Golem is the same in every telling: Judah Low Ben Bezulel. Obviously many Jewish stories do predate Prague, but not this one.
Man the Alex Jones gay frogs thing is such a crackup to me. Everyone makes fun of it, but there's actually a pretty fat kernel of truth in there. Of course, the way Alex Jones puts it makes it sound like hes saying that "they" are trying to turn frogs gay in order to eventually turn humans gay or something, which is looney. However, there have been instances where scientists found that frogs downstream from certain factories and stuff were getting all hermaphrodited out and having all sorts of sexual complications. Like, the chemicals in the water turning frogs gay is almost actually a real thing lol
Man in the High Castle? Set in an alternate timeline where Japan and Germany won World War II, the show's a slow unwinding of different conspiracy threads that threaten to unravel a tense peace between the two countries as they collectively occupy the United States. A philosophical motif: sacrifice. Each character is forced to undergo trials where they have to rebalance their valuation of self-preservation, family, fatherland. There are no heroes or villains. Only individuals in a delicate moral balancing act as they continuously weigh and re-evaluate what truly matters.
Well lets just keep adopting new technologies before we discuss the wider implications and potential negative consequences. What's the worst that could happen?
coherence from 2013? it has some of tom stoppard,1964? ( rosencratz & guildenster are dead) & luis buniel,1961( the exterminator angel) ; multi universe theory or dark magic?
I'd love to hear what you guys think about Fracture, a game that has the the *biologically-enhanced West coast of the US vs. the mechanically-enhanced East coast* . An awesome plot, in a sadly unpopular average game.
SugaryAshes they have covered plenty of times content with no philosophy behind them just for the sake of comparing... Plus there *are* plenty of stuff about morality around the story, albeit simple one.
ROMandAL that is what i always say. people give alex jones shit about the stuff he says, but they don't give him enough credit for how funny he is when he says it.
@@louisduarte8763 No, it stops being funny when you realize he is right about most things he has said. Then you realize how screwed the World really is.
I'm still torn apart between Deus Ex, Vampire Bloodlines and some of the Neverwinter Nights games, with first Half-Life and Monkey Island games coming close second.
“Art for art's sake is an empty phrase. Art for the sake of truth, art for the sake of the good and the beautiful, that is the faith I am searching for.” -George Sand
Unfortunately that notion is making art & entertainment terrible today. Instead of people creating art for the love of art, we have "truth" tellers who are more interested in spreading propaganda than good stories and characters. That was also the guiding principle of marxists in Soviet Russia. Art for the sake of art was seen a bourgeois and only marxists could evaluate what was "good" art and what was not.
Love how you repeat the words “Conspiracy Theory” over and over again while all this truly happened in the last year.... just a different thing to be afraid of.
Criticizing the fact that human augmentations cas be used for violence as a downside of transhumanism is like saying cars should be banned because you can use one to kill people. You can't just stop the futur just because of some bad guys. Same goes for asking question before using new technologies, you can't really predict the full extends of the impact a new technology will have. Great video nonetheless
The thing you have to consider is the scale of the impact. As new technologies allow us to progress more quickly towards even more powerful technologies there’s a sort of power-creep that occurs that could lead to existential risks. To your car example, the benefits of the car probably far outweighs the down sides of some people using them for crime, or to kill, as the scale possible there is small. However, if cars contribute massively to climate change that ultimately makes earth inhospitable to life, then we have to say the benefits are not worth it, as the scale of destruction is huge. I agree with Haldane, we have to ask ourselves serious morale and ethical questions around a new technology before we pursue it, otherwise we risk opening Pandora’s box and never being able to close it again. Nukes and AI may already have lead us to that point. Sadly no government is strong enough to keep up with or resist business, which ultimately drives technological advancement for commercial gain ahead of all else.
What ^ guy said. More freedom does mean more chaos but you find the line with a basic cost benefit analysis. Cars benefit more people than who are being harmed by them. Not so much with guns.
I also think that faster technological advancement makes the question of morality more relevant. When it comes to older technology, like cars, society has had a lot of time to understand its implications and adapt accordingly. Today, however, technological development is getting increasingly rapid and the chance of something going very wrong very fast is thus increasing.
Could you do a wisecrack edition on the Netflix Punisher and its stance on (gun) violence? I feel the show, although obviously very violent in itself, there is an interesting underlying debate.
What people do not understand is that because MK Ultra was real doesn't make the earth flat. Unfortunately people buy into package deals in terms of fact finding.
Very true. I suspect some do it deliberately, almost like they're disinfo agents or something. Alex Jones anyone? I know, I know, crazy right? Why would anyone do such a thing?
Hey Wisecrack when you going to do a philosophy of Buffy the Vampire Slayer? I know a RU-vid channel called Passion of the Nerd. The creator of the channel would be more than happy to help you out if you let him.
Unpacking the idea of morality is interesting, especially when morality can easily be conflated with someone’s bias, either political, religious, or simple demeanor. More so, think of right now and how you can look to social media and see these rifts proudly displayed. I know that’s the entire point of this video, which is goddamn excellent, but once the center is unwound, where can you find a moral core?
East Ville first off he is not my friend. Secondly I never said I believed every conspiracy theory but I also don’t trust the news because it’s been known to be bias to certain parties. I am independent. I do my own research on stuff.
East Ville Never said nor meant it was all fake, I meant that the fear mongering in the News Networks are present and alive on level that will soon match that of Dues Ex. Example: CNN: RACISTS are every we should all be ashamed of ourselves because America is evil, everyone let's go on a slut march!!! FXN: Socialist Commies are attempting to take over America, destroy it, and steal our guns, Get to the bunker!!! Now, East Ville, my friend, I don't know if you're a keyboard warrior out to right wrongs and got butthurt by my comment thinking it meant something that disagreed with you politically, a libtard that is overly paranoid (feels somewhat fitting since that's what the deeper meaning of this video is about) and imagines the worst out of every one, or a common internet troll. What I do know is that you assumed I'm something that I'm not and reveled in the idea of sticking it to me like a sick little twat out to make themselves look better at the expensive of another person. So would you kindly fuck off and go type your garbage in a place the befits someone of your... character.
Same - I played the original when it came out way back in 2000. Watching the news evolve over the last few years made me go back and revisit this game. Kinda funny that this video came out right before Covid.
Alex jones just exaggerates but he gets the point across maybe try not to take everything literally when he says "THE WATER IS TURNING THE FROGS GAY" he just means it is seriously fucking with their hormones lol
Do John Carpenter's Apocalypse Trilogy! Do John Carpenter's Apocalypse Trilogy! Do John Carpenter's Apocalypse Trilogy! Do John Carpenter's Apocalypse Trilogy!
Bleh! Controversy is not conspiracy. And using ignorance verses information control for the central idea of this video is like comparing apples to pizza sauce. Like Squenix, you're trying awfully hard to relate the terrible writing of Human Revolution & Mankind Divided to the illuminating flow of The Conspiracy and Invisible War.
The "zones of exception" thing is exactly what's going on today, except it's been slowly intensifying since 9/11 and is now exponentially growing and being accepted by many due to the "boiling frog effect." It happened with peaceful protesters being arrested and beaten, and it's happening today with people simply out on a walk in nature being arrested. People in Australia have been arrested for organizing protests on Facebook. Like, how much are we gonna take before we are in the average of the worlds depicted in 1984, Brave New World, and Fahrenheit 451? Oh wait, we're already there.
Loving the easter egg in the conversation between Eliza Cassan and Ny'Ashia Akim! Have a look at that original conversation in Danish TV: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xYnpJGaMiXo.html
Before even watching this video.... yes. Paranoia has a purpose. It's good to keep a very small amount of paranoia, and ask "what are the chances... how likely is it". That way, it's like a spidy sense to allert you, when someones trying to fuck with you.
BeardedBill86 Interesting. I would theorize that simple caution and recognition to defend against those manipulations is better; paranoia is meeting their aggressive manipulations with your own and creating a damaging escalation of egos.
Indeed, if you look at it another way. We're animals that employ pattern recognition in a vast majority of our daily activities and interractions, we're also creatures of habit. When we see what we perceive to be a break in a pattern (for example, a pattern of behaviour, or something that "doesn't quite fit") it triggers a defensive or investigatory reaction that could be milder such as caution or curiosity. Paranoid individuals will attribute a negative to that pattern break and respond as if in "preparation" for a negative outcome. This is very usefull in situations like say, the wild, where you being paranoid might have avoided you being a lion's lunch, in the modern world its utility is questionable.
BeardedBill86 Its where the problem grows bigger. When you believe people are manipulating you, you motivate yourself to take action to manipulate them first. Paranioa ultimately hurts everyone, more then it profits them
I've played the original Deus Ex games back in the 2000's and I'm still amazed that people today are still discussing how the series is so relevant and provoking. In addition, I didn't realize that paranoia can be a result of people mixing truths and half-truths together to suit their perspectives and outlooks until recently. I was right when I believed that I'd never see the world the same way again after playing Deus Ex.
Every time Deus Ex is brought up in a conversation, it’s reinstalled on a PC again. The entire game series reminds me of the X Files meets Blade Runner.
If I'm annoying u by showing u this over and over again please tell me because ill stop. I keep doing this because i don't know how often u check ur comments, so I keep commenting the same thing. Saga of Tanya the Evil Guilty Crown Akame Ga Kill- would appreciate it if you explained this one first. Which side is right, Night Raid or The Capital Ajin Drifters Fate Zero/Night/Unlimited Bladeworks Mob Psycho The Seven Deadly Sins(the one with Meliodas) Classroom Of The Elite Psycho Pass- this is one i think you would really enjoy watching Magi Thx and have a nice day at Wisecrack. Peace
wouldn't mind seeing any of these being turned into a full video, more anime stuff, Wisecrack! (Also if you're gonna have Classroom of the Elite, better have OreGairu as well, the social commentary is deep af)
I know you get a lot of suggestions, but with Avengers: Infinity War just around the corner, may I suggest The Philosophy of Thanos? Great video by the way.
The other Zizek/Lacan thing I thought of even before you mentioned them is the idea of 'going to the end.' That's what it looked to me like the show was doing in pushing the conspiracy theories so hard: hilariously exposing their absurdity rather than rationally pointing it out a priori.
"Chaos breeds people desiring security; and when people desire security, it's all the easier to suspend basic rights and exert more authority." 100% correct. Look at the nonsense in the news these days, no matter when you read this, and look at it through that lens. What laws are being proposed? What rights are people trying to trample upon? And why would someone or group be trying to do that?
I know that it's not usually you're guys speed, but could you do an examination of different musical artists and their approach to creating art? Like Jack White's minimalism, or the fact Jay-z never writes down lyrics, asking if the process is important to the product
That was the most smoothbrain analysis of Deus Ex I've seen, I'm disappointed and impressed at the same time. It's pretty clear you didn't really pay attention to the themes of the series and just did a surface level glance at it to justify your lefty leanings and your own paranoia of 20th century Fascism and American Imperialism. First, Deus Ex shows us that it would be the *absence* of conspiracies rather than the belief in it that illogical, as humans being naturally drawn to their needs and wants will eventually try to further them in the world, and in order to do so they will eventually rally around collectives such as ethnicities, tribes, nations, and corporations. Second, the name of the series is 'Deus Ex' for a reason, "Deus Ex Machina". Overall the series argue that God will be find through our Technology, the Illuminati are illuminated because they are the only ones who realize this and act on it. The series only fault the bad actions with the tool, not the tool itself. You get no points, and God have mercy on your Soul.
It’s a waste of time. My WIFE’s PARANOIA has ruined any chance of me leaving the house (she thinks I’m going to cheat). She follows me whenever I leave the house and I found a tracker in the back of the car. PARANOIA IS NOT GOOD. Just want some space so I can go out with my friends and have some fun- yes, with girls, but she has NO PROOF. THANKS FOR THIS VIDEO!!!🙏🙏🙏
Dude, usually when your spouse is super suspect of you over nothing that often means they too have something they wish to hide. Good luck with your paranoid ass wife dude.
No it wasn't. It made some of them show intersex traits. In no way does this mean it'll turn you gay... or that it's the result of some nefarious plot instead of pollution cause by ignorance or negligence.
Exactly. They're always using language and semantics to discredit something. Yeah the frogs didn't turn gay, but they literally changed sex which in turn screws with their reproduction and those see just frogs. What the hell are the long term effects on humans drinking the water from that source, but They'll just tell you yeah the frogs didn't turn gay and leave it at that without actually telling you exactly what happened because you used the wrong terminology therefor your entire argument is wrong. They don't attack the idea ever, but the way in which you explain it and once they're done that. They think the argument is over. Another example of using language to discredit something is them calling Ivermectin. Horse Dewormer. Like yeah it has uses for horses, but humans also use it just as much. Conspiracy Theory the word was literally created to discredit such theories. They purposely made the concept of conspiracy a joke. Another example is term The Illuminati or in other words The Cabal, The Elite, Lobbyists and Inside traders. They take the term illuminati and make it into a joke. Like I mean there could t possibly be people rich enough where regular laws don't apply to them and Rich enough to influence the course of human history.
