Enjoyed this videos very much. Piedmont Wagon Company was located in an adjacent county in Hickory, NC. Incorporated in 1892 with J. G. Hall as president. Shipped wagons as far as Jamaica for use to haul bananas. Also made wheel barrows and childrens wagons. In response the the great flood of 1916, Piedmont Wagon Company constructed a barge for use to cross a nearby river. Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing the wonderful skills.

I sure do enjoy watching your repairs, new builds, and renovations. As an off-road vehicle engineer it's really fun to see how this older equipment was designed and constructed. They are actually a lot more complicated that I imagined.

Really enjoy watching a master craftsman at work restoring a piece of history and it is also nice to have the soft background music that is not distracting.

I really love watching your videos. One thing I have noticed that my workshop and yours have in common is that we will never have too many clamps!!! I have not done anything as involved as you, the biggest projects were a rebuild of a Clipper 2B fanning mill and then a rebuild of a Clipper 47B fanning mill. Thank you for the videos!!!

Thank you for another enlightening and informative insight into the craft of wagon repairs . How the heck some ignorant twerp can give this a thumbs down is beyond believing, maybe they failed the woodwork class at school and it just bugs them when you make it look so easy to get it right.

I was wondering about the paint color from the thumbnail at the beginning thinking it was way too light. Now it’s clear that it was only tinted primer. I like watching these repairs and the new construction for wagons like the Borax wagons.

Love the new video ! :) I just love the way wood is so malleable. I am constantly trying to straighten pool cues and use a similar "hot towel" method (but w/ out the irons. It sometimes takes many different attempts because of under / over bending or even slightly skewing the bend to the side of it's original alignment. Radius bending is "fun" :) Hahahaha By the way, I don't profess to be able to perfectly straighten a cue shaft but I don't charge for it either as the customer is usually getting other work done. Although, I have done it as a sole fix, I usually coach the customer how to do it themselves as it is repetitious and can take lots of effort , albeit light effort :) Anyway, most of the warped shafts are self inflicted because of sitting in a hot car or leaning for months against a wall. They have been happy to have it dialed in even if not perfect. I must be doing a good job as I haven't had any complaints. :) I really enjoy your video's and have been waiting for this next one :) I'm good for another week or so now ! :) Hehehehehehe Don't work too hard and see you on the next one ! I know you're paid to do what the customer asks, but how mentally difficult was it to sand off 100 years of patina and original graphics? Things are only original once. That being said, I really enjoy your videos and have learned a lot about something I knew little about. Thanks for taking the time to share your fascinating knowledge and master craftsmanship.

@christopherneelyakagoattmo6078
Yeah, I really like some of the minutia of the process(es). Like, are some of the rivets placed with preformed heads and washers? When he set up the bending/straightening rig for the floor boards, I actually said out loud, "Are you going to wet 'em down?" I am such a geek.

I know I am watching these videos and commenting like an armchair professional, but, I noticed a video or two ago that the Piedmont undercarriage did not have sway/stabilizer bars for the front bolster? Is this common or are stabilizers not really necessary? Just curious...

The lettering on the wagon says it was made with locust wood. Were the boards you replaced also locust? I know black locust lumber can be pricy today but it was a good choice for its durability and resistance to rot.
@bearbon2

Okay, yes that would explain why locust is printed inside the outline of a hub. Thanks for the reply.

You probably already know this but I notice the numbers on the side of the tail. They indicate possibly the batch number of the heat treatable steel that makes up the top half of the anvil making it a 2 piece anvil. These were started about 1907-08. I checked my serial number in the "Anvils in America" book and found mine is possibly the first year production. As you know they are great anvils. Thank you for your videos. Bill

You could have taken the boards with you into a Finnish sauna and warmed them upto 100 C or more. Towels are for drying, not for wetting.

I was going to tell you about the Vintage machinery website, but when I looked up your saw, I found you already put your saw on the site, I went to your site and found pictures of your other tools, maybe some day if you get the time you could do a video tour of your shop and tell a little bit about each tool. Your video's are great, my favorite part is the high speed hammering. How many lbs, is your giant anvil, it's one of the biggest I've ever seen? Thanks
