I dunno, seems to me like his childhood was healthy enough for him to have developed a sense of societal awareness to the extent that he could make a satirical animated film about the opioid crisis already by the age of 16. Is the society he grew up in pretty damn messed up, though? Oh yes, absolutely.
i love when people see something dark different and creative they assume either the person is fucked up or on drugs. maybe you should widen your scopes and accept alternative art and media without labeling its creator and making assumptions about the artist
Being able to see the reality as it is, and the system we live in, just take a pair of eyes and a brain. Even blind people are able to “see”. So it’s the brain.
@@GrahamChapman I don't think it's about the opioid crisis, I think it's about capitalism in general. The big guys at the top literally expect us to give our bodies up to them for just a little bit of cash, which we "need", or at least that's the narrative they propagate to us.
I remember watching this back in middle school, when I had just discovered animation as a career. Now I'm applying to art colleges for next fall. Thank you Felix colgrave, for being one of my inspirations.
I like how contrary to his dumb expression, the 04L Pig is secretly the smartest character in the short. He knows this whole thing's a scheme by the pale, eyeless man. So he did the only thing he could do to not only refrain from killing his fellow swine, but also not fall for the money trap. Just sit there and hope the rest of the pigs follow. Then sooner or later, the eyeless man would starve.

0:45 just realized the hands purpose was to see if the pigs had coins on them or not just like a piggy bank to then be allowed entry to get more coins, this video is so damn clever
1:16 (for those who wanna know what it says) "WARNING: by making physical contact with this paper, all physical and mental damage you recieve as a result of dealing with us is hearby non-existent, and you have always been faulty. As we do not exist during the event of you recieving damage via our services, announcing otherwise in any public or private domain at any leavel audible or otherwise, is in every way a lie. Not only is this a great animation, but it has such a genius theme behind it as the pigs change when they get money and begin to do anything for more of it.
+mattricks21 Oh, you too? As a reward for your discovery I will share with you my opinion. :D The scene from 2:03 (that one with the bridge). The Killer Pig slashed his back to inject himself with a coin, on which there is a quote: "All pigs can fly". Now look at the graffitis. In conclusion: There are more junkies which are admitting the coin's quote. "All pigs can fly" "I AGREE." "As do I
+Masta_Artista the grafitti represents the brainwashed masses and what lies they are fed. I dissagree though that the grafitti is related to the coin. The "I AGREE - so do i" is more implying that there is no need for a topic to agree. "All pigs can fly" is also part of the lies the pigs are fed up on, just like the "everything is as it should be".
I think coins represent money, and this pig desided to spend them on drugs. It would be a little stupid to make a black market that only gets you drugs.
"All pigs can fly," could easily stand in for "anyone can rise to the top/pull yourself up by your bootstraps." This expresses a very real critique of the faux meritocracy of capitalism. Money is the drug that provides momentary satisfaction in the squalid world that surrounds them. They gain coins, even though their material conditions are not improved, and the man lives in relative comfort at the top of a tower feeding off of their bodies: the fruits of their labors. This is by no fault of the pigs, even the uninitiated are cut, and given a knife to destroy their fellow laborers in order to seek fleeting comfort. They are born into that desperation.
This guy is actually pretty smart and clever instead of him assassinating other pigs by himself to eat he made coins as drugs to make other pigs kill each other and bring body parts of themselves or others and as a way of a lazy but smart idea to eat without starving
I don't think it's post apocalyptic, there's far too much established productivity. I think it's just a really dark interpretation of big cities and how money can be leveraged to gain more money often through exploitation of those without.
If this guy was charged for his crimes. Crimes: 1) Assault & Battery 2) Bodily Harm 3) Animal Abuse 4) Cannibalism 5) Infanticide 6) Harassment 7) Weapon Dealing 8) Coercion 9) Illegal Trading 10) OSHA Violations Sentence: Death Penalty + 5100$ Fine + Trading Center Shutdown + Restraining Order
this coment is stupid you can interperit thing that all relate to greed the same way who whould og guessed frigin idiot stop trying to be deep. of all people i dont think you pulled it off.
The worlds Felix creates leave an impact on you. Whenever I finish a video of his, I always feel a sense of unease, like someone took my brain into the backroom of a dusty bar and let it walk around in a place that seems too fantastical to be real, but, emotionally, there's something that hooks you and travels with you for some time after the experience. The feeling eventually boils down to some primal kind of anxiety that flares up whenever you reflect upon it. It's like if a Terry Gillliam cartoon grabbed your head and made you share its idea of reality. It's just exhilarating. I absolutely love this man's work.
This is what the fine print on the receipt actually says Warning:by making physical contact with this paper, all physical and mental damage you receive as a result of dealing with us is hereby non-existent, and you have always been faulty. As we do not exist during the event of you receiving damage via our services, announcing otherwise in any public or private domain at any level audible or otherwise is in every way a lie. As we do not exist in the event of your injury, our premises by extension are also non existent. In the unlikely event of your death on our premises, your body which is no longer satient, is therefore an extension of our premises, which due to your death (which counts as damage in our "friendly fun" policy) no longer exist, and therefore any actions carried out on your dead body on our premises never actually happened. I remember when you originally put this on newgrounds. You're my favorite animator of all time Felix, I've been following you for years and years. Congratulations on finding main stream recognition because you deserve it.
This is more horror that horror movies... Everything feels so wrong, the windows, the buildings... verything is so wrong, nothing is at it should be...
I Really Love it I could Watch this over & over Again its so Strange & insane Except...Bloody & this is my Favorite video of this Universe & everyone Does not like the Way it is💜
SWINE OF GARDENE, I swear man. The artist used examples of certain dreams and day dreams to depict the actions of men in their past lives to become what they inevitably become in the next life. This artist. Kudos man. You really kept the vibe going. God is great brother.
There’s so much to unravel in this. To be made by a 16 year old is insane. One might first assume that it’s about addiction, but in reality it’s about human nature, and our addiction to life, and to success. When he first walks into the office, and we see 4K go through the transaction, we see him get a coin, which he offers the head and parts of another he has killed, offering the pain and suffering of another, taking the burden off of himself while still carrying out the duties of the burden himself. He receives the coin, which could be a metaphor for drugs, but could also be a metaphor for anything materialistic. He gets that good feeling, the materialistic high, and feels as if he’s flying while in reality he is laying face down next to a toxic river waiting for the high to be over. For his money to run out, for whatever one bought to lose it’s newness, for another desire to give him initiative to put the burden of his pain on someone else in order for him to get a coin once again. The second, 4L, who is late, I assume has given up. I don’t really know to be honest. The third, 4M, gives up something near to her, assuming she can not bare the burden of killing or giving pain to someone else for her own betterment. And then we have 4N. Who is new to it all. First entering the world of human nature. He does not know the tactic of putting the burden on someone else, so he takes it himself, unable to live without the coin, without money, or the drug, or whatever he has connected to happiness. The trader of the coin knows this, and gives pain to the pigs because he knows they need the coin, and knows they will give pain to others in response to him giving pain to him. From a societal perspective, this would be almost like a pyramid scheme, although that would mean all of capitalism/free market/human nature is a pyramid scheme. Someone on top holding power, selling something good to someone in return for a burden (work, money, etc.) which they can pass to someone below them in order to displace the burden from themselves, and so on. The coin is only a vessel for the obtainment of power of the holder of power, the holder of the coin. The coin is not what he desires, what he desires is real power, which the lower class believes is the coin. Money is not truly equal to power. Power is the ability to get people to do what you want. You’re power to manipulate the world around you depends on your understanding of it. And the holder of the coin understands that the coin itself is just a vessel to get people to work for him. The people that work for him see that, and get people to work for them, however they see the coin as success, as power (ie: money is power). They believe that with the coin they can become powerful, and use the coin to manipulate more people and get more coins. The flaw in this mindset is that they themselves desire the coin, and will always work just for the coin. They do not realize that the ones who are truly powerful simply work towards manipulating others into desiring what they already have. As such, the entire world desires what the top 1% have, money. However that would trap them in an eternal battle for money, leading to tactics in order to achieve money, not realizing that with an entire society planning and making tactics to earn money, the people holding the coin have thus tricked them into battling each other and trapped them in a trade of money for power and power for money, time for money and money for time, all while spending the money on things they enjoy, things that bring them happiness, essentially wasting it on the game of the illusion of power. I hope this was comprehensible but coming from a 16 year old this video was incredibly idealistic and introspective.
In case anyone is wondering what the warning said; By making contact with this paper, all physical and mental damage you recieve as a result of dealing with us is hearby non-existent, and you have always been faulty. This includes, and is not limited to, vandalising, removing of sections, sexual activities and physical consumption. And above all, try to enjoy yourself.
@Cookiesnjam Yeah for some reason I decided to make it even harder by doing this on the mobile app. Which wont let you play the video unless you throw away the comment your currently writing, so i ended up “copy & paste”-ing several times. As for looking back and forth that was constant. Had lots of practice in school when they would force us to write notes after all. I was surprised that there wasn’t already a comment like this especially on such on old video. So i took it upon myself.
I like how it's a video made solely based on perception and is open to interpretation as any piece of art should be. And then there's the fucking comment section.
It could also be construed as our addiction to materialism and monetary gain. To the point where we let our lives become enveloped by it. Where we give away our entire lives for some sense of "success" based on the digits in our bank account. Similar to the way opiods and alcohol may easily consume the lives of their users.
This is poetry in terms of expression toward war. Money for death, drug habits formed from ptsd, kill everything for less pay than the ones that pay you. Draft is no choice and it's by force, you are a statistic and a number, your life is worth less than the ones you kill for. Surrealist expression of war? A+
Look up a channel called TristanGrunts, all his videos about a specific subject were shown in class. In one he starts talking about Larry Flynt and Hustler porn mags.
Holy smokes, 2009? 16?? In flash??? This shows how amazing technology has become- with traditional animation, he'd be making public animations MUCH later- being limited to film. I feel unhappy now because most of my childhood was spent playing games on a linux machine...
