Cheap lens solution is also getting M42 vintage, manual lenses and a small EF adapter. Loads of lenses available and they are very cheap.

Looks like a cool piece of equipment just checked it on Amazon DE but c'mon 519,- EUR for this tube with a Canon EF mount on it is a bit exaggerated.

Do you think I can use some manual lenses. ?
@essentialphotovideo
@essentialphotovideo Год назад
So long as it is canon EF fitting, or can be adapted to an EF fitting, it should work with no problem. The snoot itself doesn't have any electronic contacts to the fact that the lens is a Manual one wouldn't be an issue.

Very interesting product. How do you open the iris of the lens if its electronically controlled ?
@essentialphotovideo
@essentialphotovideo 4 года назад
This lens will not work with electronic controlled lenses only I’m afraid, but it will work fine if your lens can be controlled manually.

can a heat from lightbulb damage your lens ?
@iambeautiful8190
@iambeautiful8190 4 года назад
especially when using continuous lights which heats up quite a lot?

Hi, there, thanks for your question. It depends on the type of lights you are using. The lights that Tommy is using are either LED continuous lights or studio strobes that have an LED modelling lamp which are fine. However, we do not recommend using the optical snoot with Hot Lights, or flashes with halogen modelling lights. If you are using a strobe that uses an E27 screw modelling bulb, you may be able to find an LED bulb that will fit your flash if you need a continuous light to use. You may not be able to dim the light, but it should in theory work. Hope that helps

@@essentialphotovideo Thank you for your answer. Yeah apurture 300d mark ii gets kinda hot when you use it for a prolonged time. Maybe it's better that I buy and use godox 400 pro in this case. Not sure if my AD200 has enough strong modeling light, gotta check that as well :) thank you for your answer :)

@@iambeautiful8190 You're welcome. The Optical Snoot itself should be fine as it is all metal, however, we are not sure how the heat from high-powered LED light such as the Aperture 300 mark II will affect the electronics in your lens. The CITI400 Pro / AD400 pro will work fine with the is Optical snoot. Kind Regards, The Pixapro Team

Hi, do you think this will be fine with a Godox SL-60W COB light with a 50mm f1.8 lens? The Godox light is about 120 watts. What are your thoughts about using zoom lenses with minimum f4-f8 stops using 100 watt COB lights? Also, does the lens get hot, if so, is it hot too touch on prolonged use? Thank you.
@essentialphotovideo
@essentialphotovideo 4 года назад
Hi, thanks for your question. The optical snoot should be fine with a 60W COB LED light, thought we wouldn't recommend using anything more than a 100W LED light (a 120W light should be fine though). A 50mm 1.8 lens works really well with this snoot. You can also use Zoom lenses, however, please bear in mind that Zoom lenses typically have smaller maximum apertures than Prime lenses, therefore they won't be able to project the patterns as brightly as a fast prime can (the projection from an f/4.0 lens would be just over 2-Stops darker than a n f/1.8 lens. The optical snoot may get warm with prolonged use, but it shouldn't get hot, so long as you don't an LED light above 100W, you should be fine. We would recommend not leaving the light one for any longer than you need to. We hope that helps

Tommy quick question have you used the Pixapro optical snoot with built in lens as well as the EF mount version, how do you find their compare?
@essentialphotovideo
@essentialphotovideo 3 года назад
Hi Matt. In terms of what they do, they are identical. The main difference is that the EF-Mount version gives you the option of using different lenses, so you can use a wide-angle lens for a wider-spread, or telephoto lenses for a narrower beam etc. The Optical snoot with the fixed lens has a fixed 85mm 2.8 lens, so you can't change the spread of the light without varying the distance of the flesh. the fixed lens version also comes with a set of 16 gobos, and have a Framing-shutter and Iris Diaphragm accessory available for it, though versions for the EF-Mount version will be coming in the future. Hope that helps.

Hi Ivan The Optical snoot includes an inner diffuser and unique design which helps to offer a sharp projection which is designed to allow you to project unique patterns from your studio flash or continuous light, with an attachment to attach your Canon type lens. Thank you for your feedback, we try to keep our prices as competitive as possible in today's current market and will forward this to our team to take into consideration.
