Really fantastic, educational, and inspiring video Tommy! Amazing images and brilliant lighting setups. What I really loved about the video was that you focus on a tool, combined with a clear explanation of technique, which is what we need more of in photography videos rather than just discussions of gear divorced from actual photography. And: cool to see you used the boxes for the doorway effect! The gobo is definitely easier (and less of a 🔥 hazard). Now I want one of these more than ever!

Richard and Tommy, what are your thought about pixapro versus magbeam system? I haven't tried any of them so I would your comments :-)
@rickjbradbury
@rickjbradbury 4 года назад
@@kbqvist I don't have any experience with the optical snoot myself but it should offer more control than the mag mod mag beam. Where the mag beam/mag mode wins is portability for location work, mine lives in the lighting bag along with my Pixapro Pika 200's and 360 light. You can do a fair bit with the mag beam but the optical offers far more in terms of precision light control. If you grab mag mod gear use some silicon sealant to keep the magnets in place in the grips and modifiers other wise they take a real big liking to each other and don't like being separated..
@wirec4162
@wirec4162 2 года назад
Great video Tommy, thanks. If I understood correctly, the optical snoot has to be set between the speedlite and the prime lens, right? What about softboxes, isn't it possible to add up some of them? Or their use would be a nonsense? And lastly: does it fit all lenses (Nikon, Canon, etc.)?
@dreadnoughtphotowerkz
@dreadnoughtphotowerkz 3 года назад
I love this. My question is will my MagMod Gobos fit with kit. Also will my AD600 Pro work with this optical snoot? I know the bulbs inside the AD600 and AD600 pro are different.

I own this product, there is 2 big problem on it : - first one the system to fix gobo is a big shit it's really hard to fix gobo and to turn them - second part if you will use it with led light, temperature will increase a lot. One of our light switch off because temperature increase to much on it due to this optical snoot. Excepted this point this is good product

This is a very useful light shaping tool to keep handy, but this is a bit pricey for what it is. It does produce very good effects though. Magmod is over rated especially for the ridiculous price they charge
@TommyReynolds89
@TommyReynolds89 4 года назад
wellwhatthen10101 I will admit, the magmod stuff is quite expensive for what it is but I can just about justify the price of this modifier for the effect(s) I get in return personally. Thanks for watching the video dude

@@TommyReynolds89 Hi Tom' I played with my first focusable snoot in my darkened studio a couple of nights ago, It proved itself brilliant value and a very punchy plus for my studio. Having learned that, I bought the second one. I don't think the focus is equal to yours but it comes with 5-coloured filters 14-projectable shapes inc' 4-circles of different sizes plus a very disciplined output-lens with a diameter of almost 4" (95mm) eBay see > "Neewer Aluminium Alloy Studio Conical Spot Snoot with Bowens Mount" most I found were priced at the $260-Aud mark, you have to look a bit, try this url it may work? > www.ebay.com.au/itm/Neewer-Aluminium-Alloy-Studio-Conical-Spot-Snoot-with-Bowens-Mount/312758170259?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649 cheers mate :)

My friend love your videos . But wouldn’t the heat , maybe ruin your lens .This is not the first time energy-saving bulbs have been criticized - fluorescent bulbs emit dangerous UV light. Eco-friendly LED lights may damage your eyes, according to new research.A study has discovered that exposure to LED lights can cause irreparable harm to the retina of the human eye.Nov 28, 2014

aral2dmax 99% of the time I’m not using this with continuous lights so it’s not that bright nor is the modelling light on a strobe going to cause any hear issues. On a continuous light at 1000W yeah it gets warm as expected but nothing to make me concerned
