I have fond memories of Alara the first set I played after highschool and me and my boyfriend broke up so I lost that sort of connection with that community. Alara pulled me in with multicoloured madness. Zombie discard and just rocking all 5 in a fun for funsies deck I still have now even though I don't do much playing now. It was fun feeling like everything was mixing.
I never played standard in Alara, I played in Scars/Innistrad and Innistrad/RTR. The Lorwyn/Eventide/Alara standard always seemed so fun to me. Cool that you got to experience it!
@@patbateman69420 Some satisfying hard hitting choices I loved to. The ultimatum cards were almost cruel. Lots of 2/1's with dual protects and like first strike or something for 2 dif types of mana. So you could get a quick guard as you build for just mean cards. Cruel ultimatum was if I recall right opponent loses 5 life, discards 2 cards, and sacs a monster, while you gain 5 lift, 2 cards, and a rez. It was cool I can still remember all these years now.
I don’t know why but the effects of the conflux on specifically esper started to get me emotional. The idea of their cold hearted hierarchies and cruel domination giving way to serenity, growth, and sensitivity is a truly beautiful idea.
Jund is definitely my personal favorite of the shards mainly for the art and designs of the various beasts that roam the land also it appeals to an aggro player like myself.
Which really breaks my suspension of disbelief a bit. Phyrexia has so much monstrous/ugly tropes, I find it hard to believe that people could be indoctrinated in seeing it as "perfection".
I love all of the Shards but one.... Bant is the three dual color combos I use least in game and lore wise sounds oppressive, suffocating and honestly really boring. Unsurprisingly, in contrast, Grixis is my go to shard (GIVE ME THE HORROR, BAYBEE!!) with Jund and Esper as 2nd and 3rd respectively. Naya sounds cool but I have never tried it in game (working in a deck for it at time of comment)
I’ve been dying for a @TheLorebrarians “Ravinica” since like, two years ago when I started following. Up until very recently I used to tell myself “well, it’s such a hellish vast and complicated plane, and with so many things being released, I dont think it can or will be done and perhaps it’s for the best…” But now I have no doubt about that he’s more than perfectly competent to cover Ravnica and give it more than a worthy treatment, he might do it without breaking a swea. It is my favorite plan, so I’m both protective and biased, but this man have my trust. I think next he will do Tarkir (logical progression from Shards to Wedges and all that) but I second the request for a trip to Ravinica more than any other request. Congrats @TheLorebrarians, you may not be a servant of the Progress Engine, but you have advanced admirably. On second thought, you probably is a servant of the Progress Engine, who knows by know.
