Whilst the naming structure of the GR line of cameras is certainly confusing, one thing that isn't confusing is how awesome the older, much less talked about GR Digital cameras are! I've had my GRD3 for over 4 years now and I have loved using it as a take everywhere snapshot camera, on shoots and at nightclubs, it's remarkably versatile and the CCD sensor inside it delivers excellent, "high quality digicam" results!
I highly recommend checking one out if you have the chance, I actually prefer them to the newer, APSC GR's.

love this camera! bought it off ebay from japan about five years ago. i take a completely different style of photos (usually zero people in them, mostly outdoors, never use flash) but the ergonomics are incredible and it just takes such good pics.

I have the GRD3 & the GRii. They both serve different purposes, but if I could only have one, I would have to go with the GRD3. It has a look, and I love using it for night with that fast f1.9 lens. I am pleased with the look up to isolated 1600. Nice video.

I think I have all the GR cameras, except for the APS-C ones going back to the film models. My favorites are the GR1v, GR21, GRD and GRDIII. The GRD III is nice for normal shooting, it meters better, and generally behaves nicer. The GRD is the most interesting looking one when shooting jpg, B&W, high contrast at a mid level ISO. Too low an ISO and it's sterile, and too high it's a mess. The GRD at night with it's flash at around 400 ISO is magic.

I just purchased a Ricoh Gr (the first apsc model) and am looking forward to using it :D I wouldnt mind trying out a Ricoh Gr Digital, but they are the same price as the original apsc ricoh gr here in germany. Mayve in future I will be able to get a good deal on a Gr Digital👀 Thats why I decided to get a Ricoh Gr with a shutter coznt of only 1000 and like new condition for 350€ :D My camera collection is slowly starting to grow 😅 Dxo One, Rx100 iv, Ricoh Gr, Fuji xe1, Sony a6400. Also im planning on adding an a7 ii so i can finally try out my vintage glass on a full frame sensor the lenses were actually designed for.

Great video and dope shots! The GR Digital line doesnt get enough love, super underrated! I have the GRD 1 and GRD 4 and the OG version is my favorite. The rendering of fine detail from the original is just awesome because there is no noise reduction software built in.

Between the two, which one would you say produces more film like photos in color? Also how does the b&w compare between the two?

I think some people will have the "illusion" or "perception" that "photos taken by CCD sensor cameras have more film feeling", perhaps because some film scanners use CCD sensors...

if u look closely inside battery dock u can see 2 [oo] slot that for 2x AAA battery, just in case of emergency. buy a pack of AAA and keep using the camera :D

Thank you! All of the shots were shot in raw then edited in Lightroom - I usually shoot at f5.6, 400 iso and a 1/125 shutter speed with a flash power of between 1/8-1/4

Thank you! I just shoot everything in RAW - I keep the ISO below 1250 and aperture usually between f4-5.6, flash power at 1/4 or 1/2! Edit in Lightroom, the black and white edit is from my preset pack!

Thank you! I always shoot in DNG, I find the added flexibility of editing to be worth it, and I’ve never not post processed my photos so never really needed to bother with JPEG.

Honestly I love the GRD form factor. It’s more pocketable than the GR. Not by much, but enough to feel perfect.

You need to hunt on eBay, especially from Japan - you can still find them for around 300 aud in rough but working condition, and I’ve found they are very reliable so I wouldn’t worry about the condition too much!
