The Point-Per-Game Star Who Fell Off The Map - The Jason Allison Story

Scoring at a point-per-game pace just once during your NHL career is impressive enough, but to do so for over half a decade straight is quite an incredible achievement. While most of these productive scorers will become stars of the league and struggle to go about their day-to-day business without being recognised by fans, one player disappeared from the spotlight far quicker than anyone could have predicted...
This is the story of Jason Allison's journey from point-per-game star to his fall off the hockey map!

plus minus stats are huge when looking at D men and offense. If you put it up 100 points and are a minus 10....you're still hurting the team. Many players like this through the years in the NHL. Great talent, but unless you can collect a positive plus minus throughout most of your career, like Datsyuk, teams will notice.

I grew up in London and was a dye-hard Knights fan. I saw a lot of great players come out of London, both before and after Allison, such as Shanahan, Perry and Kane. I have never seen a BETTER player than Allison and I followed his career and post career intently. He was super skilled at the game, and his contribution to the world junior golds was unprecedented. He scored the best WJ goal of all time with a no look back hand with "3 or 4 players draped all over him" in the words of Bryan McCabe. He was not as slow a skater as some make him out to be, he did seem very awkward skating but in an end to end race in LA he came in 1st. He'll always be my favorite former Knight. His opponents also said repeatedly that he was the hardest guy in the league to knock off the puck. Too bad his career was so short!

When he was traded to the Kings, I thought they were starting to build a contending team, with him in his prime! But, those injuries really set him and the Kings back.
@pilotamurorei
@pilotamurorei 3 года назад
there was a reason they were known as the IR kings. The key point was that adam deadmarsh, while LOVED in colorado, had had a MAJOR concussion and the avs knew he was damaged goods. They leveraged that into getting Rob Blake. Without deader to help stabilize that top line, Jason allison became a target and had to play a much more grinder role on the top line to give palffy space. It made him more injury prone and ended up ruining his career. As an avs fan, and seeing the kings at full strength a couple times, had Deader and Allison not been hurt, they were a SCARY team. They had a good coach in Andy Murray, they had depth and they were a TOUGH team to play against. As much as the avs and kings had downright feuds in the early 00s, once two of the kings top players went down, it was all over. The kings had a chance in 01 or 02 to beat the avs and while St Patrick OWNS the kings, those series were SCARY. I always respected the kings, even as a rival, because what they lacked in top end talent they made up for with grit and heart. Lappy was a great example of that.

Allison had a lot of 4th line time in those early cups of coffee with the Caps. I saw him play between Kevin Kaminski and Craig Berube one game, which just doesn't produce points. The 1997 trade of Allison hurt the Caps (you were starting to see flashes of dominance) in the long run Oates was a big reason the Caps made the finals in 1998. I agree with the other posters he did not have the speed to be a top flight center and isn't a match for today's game.
