The Pokemon Investments I Avoid Wasting Money On | And The Pokemon Products I Buy Instead! 

I think everyone should just collect what they like and not try to follow the market.

Haven’t collected since the early 2000’s. But I’m going to try and do a master set of 151. Love this set. Would also love to see the second and third gen get a set like this.

I try to avoid the non-UPC collection boxes, with some rare exceptions (either when it's a Charizard box because, yeah, or when I actually like the promos). I'm in on booster boxes and ETBs. And I actually do have a few 1/2/3-pack blisters in my collection, but those are usually gifts or good offers from stores I shop at. With my luck, there's no way I pull anything from 3 packs or less, so I just put them in the closet and forget about them. What I don't invest in at all are singles. Sometimes I buy some, but usually cheaper ones I need for a set. If I pull a heavy hitter myself, I might grade it, and if I don't pull it, well, I don't own it. It's just too volatile of an investment, especially when it's from a newer set. Thanks as always, Colin!

I agree about singles purchase. It’s always about accumulating as fast as possible due to FOMO, but patience can save you ton. The key is to get the rare cards at a time between heavy market saturation (from new product release) and low market supply (time, as people complete their collections and nothing gets released to market)

SV has been garbage fire so far except 151, which is bonkers, it's as though 151 is sucking all the interest and money, even though the art in SV for the part has gotten better and better.

The Shiny Zacian & Zamazenta boxes are an amazing product to collect. 12 crown zenith packs and a promo card and a cool figurine for $59.99.

Collection boxes typically don't get reprinted like BB's and ETB's. Some of my best performing sealed products are collection boxes.

I love the Pokemon Center exclusive ETBs but the pull rates on the general ETBs tend to be trash. I love adding new tins to my sealed collection as they are super collectible and most of the time you are just paying for packs.

151 is the main reason I collect at all so I whole-heartedly agree on keeping any 151 product.

Every set will have nostalgia for whatever age and generation. Base set was for us 90 kids. And in 2020 we all came back because of Sword and Shield. Now here we are collecting and LOVING 151. This era is going to repeat for the 25-35 year olds as well. Nostalgia will always be the reason collectors buy now and hold for later. And lets not forget, compounding interest. There will be more population on Earth 10-20 years from now. And they will all look back at todays set wanting them in their collections just like people today are looking back at the base sets and so on. Pokemon is here forever 👍🏻

Can’t get enough 151! UPC would be dope. What do you think about holding a bunch of the poster box? I get not liking the zapdos. The poster for $15, 3 packs and 3 superior promos

You would be surprised how much the sleeves end up being desired as time goes on. Especially if you ever want to go take them to Japan. I buy regular etbs by the case though. 300-330 for regular sword and shield and s&v etbs are so worth it imo. I also buy booster cases and sleeved cases of sets. Its all about finding the deal. As far as collections go the ones with pins and sick promos or figures are always going to be worth something if you get it for thr right price. The pikachu collection reprint of crown zenith from walmart that is going for 25 bucks and has 7x crown zenith packs a pin and promos. CZ for 5 bucks a pack is a steal. This is beyond a steal. Also if you get cases of collection boxes that you dont open they will have more value because people like the minty fresh boxes. I am always looking for deals and I always try to go price per pack. I completely agree with that. Price per pack is only going to go up over time. Some sets may take longer but eventually it will go up unless Pokemon dies which is a very unlikely situation. I also have been loading up on XY and sun and moon stuff especially sleeved packs or tins that have desirable packs in them. Its hard to know exactly and you need to make sure you know what print run the product is to make sure you get what you want. I got 114 sleeved packs of flashfire recently. It was not cheap at all but for the price I paid i can probably make 20 bucks a piece on them right now. I also buy a crap ton of Japanese which I would rather open because grading cards from Japanese sets is so much easier. Sorry for the novel love the channel I enjoy the vid and I love the cards as well. I would love to be able to turn some of my degenerate ways into some legit $ soon enough.

I hope that my collecting turns out to profit in the future. Collecting and chasing for cards is fun, but making some money from it would be pretty cool as well.

Agree ! For me I mostly buy for the fun and thrill of pulling hits from ripping packs.. don’t think I’m able keep my Pokémon items sealed too long…

I have about 7 sealed Japanese 151 booster boxes rn. Thinking about sealing 5 away and sell 2. Or seal 3 and sell 5. Either way it’s a win for me. Shoutout to the poke office for my daily dose of pokemon

How worth it is it to actually grade cards? I’m hesitant to send my Arceus VStar from CZ because there’s a weird gray blemish on the bottom right corner that was already there when I pulled it, so idk how much that would affect the grade

I think sword and shield may not get as good of returns like sun and moon or xy just cause they printed a lot more but doesnt mean they won’t get a good return.

Sleeved packs are the best because they guarantee the pack is untampered with.

I’ve gone to promo cards ( Van Gogh pika, armoured mewtwo etc) and Pokemon centre ETBs a cheaper alternative to booster box’s. Also adding sleeved boosters around 5 packs per set

I couldn’t have said it any better. At the end of the day collect what you enjoy. I do a bit of everything. Buy singles, open packs, collect etbs, sell product, play the card game. Its so much fun.

I had as much as 85 sealed products but I since cut it down to just Pokémon center etbs. I think collecting all these etbs is a cool way to collect. I had every etb variant but just seemed like a waste. Also I keep the upcs in my collection

IMO the best way to start investing for any beginner is to either sell some of their current collection to fund the investing or, hit some thrift stores, resell items on eBay, and use that money to fun investments. I began by selling thrift finds. Nothing crazy. 1 - 2 items at a time. My initial investment was like $10. After 2 years, i have close to 700 sales on ebay, a few pokemon products ive invested in, but overall everything pays for itself and its been fun as hell.

Bought 151 Booster bundle displays that contains 10 mini boxes, hope they reprint them, but im keepingt hem sealed for next 20+ years , dedicated long term investment. Hope i can get retirment money before pension :D

I love these kinds of vids of course its all speculation but i mean what kind of investing isnt at the end of the day i think you should also invest/collect what makes you happy. If you like collection boxes or etbs or blisters or mini tins or any thing else or even singles then go for it!! Buy and collect what makes you happy :)

Collection box’s are actually one of the best investments if you buy the ones with the right promo. It’s pretty easy to tell which ones to buy. Any charizard any Umbreon, Gengar tons more

a 6 dollar checklane going to 25 dollars is like 400%, you gotta look at that, what you said is key, in bulk like a case. booster boxes are way more fun though, i agree, not always as liquid when the time to sell though
