I love the trail off at the end "It's a big enough umbrella But it's always me that ends up getting wet" Definitely a song that strikes memories listening to it different times. One of my absolute favorite songs.
The police band is one of the greatest bands with the excellent STEWARD COPELAND and the excellent guitarist ANDY SUMMERS and of course STING singer and excellent bass player
The cello is not Ground breaking. ELO has used it since the '70s, masterfully! Watch some ELO!! I suggest his concert at Wembley Stadium. Jeff Lynne was an icon by then, but that production was a gem.
He plays bass guitar, so playing the bass would not be so strange, but having him play with a bow is interesting. But I think he plays all kinds of instruments.
To react is to emote.....to emote is literally to let your body and your senses try to explain what they just heard....How about reacting with some analytical and intellectual pondering and musings? Just for starters......how about the fact that a trio of Caucasian young men from the UK making such an interesting and eclectic sounding and captivating record? How about the convergence of up-tempo rock music set to a reggae beat and rhythm? How about Copeland's interpretation of the Island music syncopation and its heritage in the tunes of Bob Marley but repackaged and homogenized like Clapton did with Marley's I Shot the Sheriff..... A person has got so much fertile musical styles and musical history to work with here, and all we get in this video is a beautiful young woman emoting......what a wasted opportunity.
@@danielpaz671 Fun enough to run rings intellectually around the likes of no-thought typers like you...... being able to bring critical analysis, life experience, knowledge and insight is the essence of life, young fellow. Wait until you grow up..... you'll be as well informed as others.
Cello is a the medium sized one that you hold in front of you, played seated. If they're standing, it's bigger, and it's held sort of on one side of you, it's a double bass. Also, with cello there's almost _always_ a bow.
Yes, Singer Eva Cassidy did her version and it wa splayed on All My Children when Dixie Cooney Chandler Martin "died". Also it was a Good Luck Charm for Nadine Coyle who sang it when she auditioned to be in Girls Aloud and on November 30th 2002 she was one of Five Girls who made the group.
@@jamespasifull3424 I still prefer Sting's version. Hers is great but i think it gained a lot more hype because she died shortly after. I'd love to see more Sting in reaction videos instead of always seeing covers and features where they don't even recognize the mastermind behind the songs.
@@jamesclapp6832 I used to play cello it doesn’t go anywhere near that low. In the song sting is actually just playing a regular bass and in the video it’s his electric double bass he sometimes used
You like the cello? The Electric Light Orchestra started using cellos, in pop/rock songs, nearly fifty years ago!!! Check out E.L.O. & give your ears a treat!! 😲
You know it's a great tune when you start chair-dancing. Love it. Thanks for this reaction to my all-time favorite Police song in their whole library of amazing songs! 🤘
Stewart Copeland has always been my favourite Policeman👍 My only Police concert was the Synchronicity Tour...he was like seeing 3 Rastas on one drum kit! Years later, I've seen all 3 of them, seperately, in performance.
Met my wife at a Police Concert in 1984, married 3 months later and still going strong. The line about 1000 rainy days and me always getting wet makes me laugh to this day, kinda relates to me and my wife :)
Oh The Police ...how I loved them. So many good songs. Some of their early stuff had great reggae vibes... check out "Roxanne" or "Message In A Bottle" next!
Thanks for playing my favorite Police song. My favorite Sting song, 'If You Love Somebody Set Them Free' is even better. Check that out on your show sometime. :)
For the record, what she said is actually right, you can see that Sting plays cello in the original clip. Moreover, there are countless performances of Sting playing the cello. Plus, Sting used to play cello in a Jazz band before reaching fame. That's actually during these performances that he was nicknamed Sting for the first time : " He gained his nickname after his habit of wearing a black and yellow jumper with hooped stripes with the Phoenix Jazzmen. " (wikipedia) But in the end: YES! Sting plays the bass when he was part of the Police.
Police although a rock band have a lot of influence from Reggae music and you can hear it here also. Great choice but must listen to Roxanne, Message in a bottle, Wrapped around your finger, Walking on the Moon, Doo doo doo da da da. Now there is also solo music from the lead singer Sting that you have to listen to Fragile is one of the best songs ever written, Englishman in New York, It's probably me,Desert Rose are some of his classics, trust me beautiful girl.
He's a great all-around musician, so if he wanted to play cello, he could learn. But it's a much bigger adaptation than electric bass to double bass, because cellos are tuned in 5ths, whereas basses are in 4ths. Pretty confusing to switch!
The bass is slightly bigger than the cello and serves the same purpose as the bass guitar Sting normally plays. You should check out their song "So Lonely. " ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bzRgbrYuOYE.html
Don’t Stand So Close To Me: Sting, the lead singer, used to be a teacher. The song is about how the the students who had the hots for him used to try and get too close.
Angela, thanks and you're welcome. The things you mentioned about it are what bring me into the song as well. That and the upbeat rhythm. What a beautiful Day 😉
Sting is playing a Bass [not a Bass guitar, which he also plays]... A cello is smaller and is played seated with the instrument between the legs. A Bass is mostly played standing up.
At this point, Sting was to The Police what Diana Ross was To The Supremes and what Phil Collins was to Genesis. The undisputed Star. Even today he makes $10,000.00 a Day alone on Every Breath You Take. Average Joe did you ever hear Nadine Coyle's version of Fields Of Gold when she auditioned to be in Girls Aloud.
Sting is almost childlike in his love for music. This man uses every color when he paints his lyrics and melodies. He is inspired by so many musical genres, and is unafraid to try something new or different. I am willing to bet a million dollars that over his career he has include more musical instruments than any other contemporary artist. I have seen him 5 times in concert and wouldn’t hesitate to see him again. I would love to see him one more time with The Police. If I had to describe his songs the two words I would use would be a complex purity. While his vocals are often buttery smooth, it is the notes surrounding them that bring the emotional gravity to his songs. One song that is often overlooked is I Burn For You. There are two versions, one from his days in The Police, and one when he was solo. My favorite is the solo version, but I suggest you give them both a chance.
Sting probably has one of the best voices ever. He was and is such a great talent. We don't get too many talented people like him very often. Everything he touches turns to platinum! From what I understand he's a great guy. Loved seeing him with ACDC's Brian Johnson - Brian Johnson had a show where he interviewed stars. They both were very down to Earth people.
My favorite band in my High School days and my favorite song from them. Thanks for reacting you were fantastic! I really tried hard to dive into my TV and dance with you but I couldn't make it happen. Just wished you had reacted to the video it's such a classic. Please watch it when you can.
(Many stringed instruments use the same tunings per string. "Playing them" is a matter of technique therefore, learning how to gain the best effects of each one, not necessarily learning new finger-placements. Guitars the weird one because many, many composers and songwriters change strings' tunings which gives the instrument more or less emphasis on certain strings or notes. Most guitars aren't, but just about every guitarist experimented with 'tunings'.)
Local roller skating rink, could be 1982, somebody's birthday, probably a friend's. I have a case, but I'm still there, helping them celebrate. We did the ice cream cups with the flat wooden spoon handles, and now it's on to frosted, creme-filled hexagonal-shaped cupcakes (or similar) snax wrapped in cellophane. The rain comes down. The crime scene that I'm supposed to be at is washed out. No usable evidence. Or so I'm told. It's over. On to the next manila folder.
Having watched your other comments on several songs it is fun to watch your reactions to so many different musicians and groups. It makes me think that music can be a universal element of our lives and we can grow closer together by just listening to different genres of music and seeing the common elements in the lyrics and also the music itself which is almost impossible to limit in its impact. I like what you do. I say just keep on keeping on. Thanks.
