@@jamesbong4928 Copeland n Sting famously reside in N.Y with Sting openly admitting he would Walk the streets at night looking for coke dealers because he thought it made Him play better... I'm glad he is rid of those Demons these days....
In most interviews, Stewart humbly claims that he's just a guy "who bangs on shit". He says he's random, and maybe that's true, but we all know that he always found beats that nobody knew even existed in time, which makes his drumming...well, timeless.
for a second i thought i was really the only one to notice, and was desperate reading the comments like, am I the only one that sees the fact that most of their songs are reggae?
Never try karaoke but try to make it on your own....my best friend Thomas and I are walking on the moon for a fabulous time . ..ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TSxtnWmvRHI.html
What they did between 1978 and 1983 is just unbelievable. What a band. So much space for afterthought in their music, but still you don't miss a thing. Minimalism, energy, attitude and skill.
The day I knew my uncle died from cancer, I didnt know what to do, gone into my room, turned the radio on and it was playing this song... There is no link between the lyrics and what happened that day, but it always remind me that cloudy and rainy day when for the first time in my life I had to face the loss of a loved one.
+Jazz The first time-/one's always the hardest, I'm probably a little bit late, but still, stay strong. *don't wish for an easy life, wish for the strength to endure a hard/difficult life*
+Jazz There are deep connections to the words and what you experienced. We are all stardust. We reach for the moon and the stars to gain knowledge of ourselves.
I'm sure it's much more complicated than it sounds and that an average person wouldn't be able to replicate the sounds on offer-particularly Stewart Copelands drumming and percussion.
1981, 20 yrs old, in the military, early afternoon walked into a lounge barely opening for the day and a song was playing kinda low but I got hooked on the beat. Asked the bartender the name of the song, says, "Walking On The Moon, the Police"..... never forgot, love this song to this day in 2024!
No, they wouldn't be a huge band and let me explain you the reason why: The three of them are great musicians but the formula that made them popular back them was good for awhile but then they became repetitive so that wouldn't last that long, same would have happened with Nirvana if Cobain still would be alive. I think the only band that could succeed using the same formula over and over again is AC/DC, they have a unique voice, a unique guitar sound and even though they've copied themselves many times people still love their music.
The 80s have produced a lot of great music which is still played to this day. But in the first place the 80s were exciting because we were young back then.
It was! I was a starting goaltender on my hockey team, a beautiful girlfriend, Reagan in office--not a senile, pedophile who can't draw a crowd of 20 yet he "won" 81 million votes? Bullshit. Reagan made us proud to be Americans. The music was awesome: The Police, Elvis, Joe Jackson, Genesis, Dylan's "Infidels", tom Petty, etc. MTV was exciting and we waited for new videos. People were alert and not zombies walking with their iphones. People were nicer and the US society was more polite and crime was punished.
Just reacquainted myself with this song after so many years. Didn't appreciate just how clever and beautiful it is. The drums especially are played like a lead instrument while the bass compliments and the guitar provides the beat. Great group, great musicians.
It really is quite standard reggae drumming. There is one drop, steppers and rockers. Then, of course they throw some rock style drumming in the mix...
@@goulddddable Just like one day people will realize that bananas aren't actually food. In other words, people doesn't actually mean everyone. Just gullible, crazy people lol.
3:40 notice the flag doesn't move at all while they fidget with it. There is no inertia on the fabric whatsoever, gravity isn't acting on it, pulling the flag toward the moon. Nothing. As stiff as a cvm sock.
Still loving this at 64. Sh*t....was it that long ago that I bought their albums?? Doesn't anybody realize Sting is singing about BEING IN LOVE. "...walking on the moon..." of happiness.😂
This was 1979!!I was 18 yrs old and this takes me back like it was yesterday.I even remember which pub I was in when I first heard this on the jukebox! It just reminds me of great times of waiting for the weekend to come and then just going out and having a good time.Great times!!.
I listen to this song almost every morning before I get my day started, and it never fails to get me all jazzed up to conquer whatever I have planned. I wish there were more up and coming artists trying to push out music like The Police, Depeche Mode, ect... To those of you that had the chance to live consciously through the 80s and hear all these incredible artists in their prime, I'm jealous in the best way. I'm just so thankful I can still listen to it and pretend I'm in a different time Era 💕
@@TommyZeus-i8n i was born one year after you and understand what you mean. Childhood in the eighties was sweet, playing with 8bit videogame in the house and then biking around, teenage in the '90,underground music scene promise to fight for a better world, the famous 3rd millenium should have bring so much freedom and opportunities....you can almost feeling it was coming closer... Then..... Who stole our future?
I was born in 69. MTV started when I was junior high. I remember watching these videos before and after school. I used to listen to the Police, Rush, Pink Floyd, AC DC, Metallica, Guns n Roses, The Cure, Depeche Mode, New Order, Madonna, etc etc etc. I could go on and on. Plus that was when Walkman's were invented... the pre-IPod era. Music today does not even compare. Also, we used to go to the arcade to play video games. We'd all get together and have tournaments away from our parents. Then, we used to play football, baseball, basketball, frisbee, hacky sack, bikes, skateboards, etc outside with all the kids in the neighborhoods. It was truly the best time to have grown up as a child. I feel sorry for these young kids... they are so deprived... they have no idea!
@@TommyZeus-i8n Yeah. We thought nothing was going to be the same again. We thought we were the Bomb then. It felt so good. The Police didn't take themselves too seriously, at first. Their videos were said to have a bit of Marx Brothers energy to them. High praise back then...
Yes I agree we were definitely blessed to have experienced those times. I'm so glad I was a teenager back in those days,I wouldn't trade it for anything. Time machine anyone 🤔
Fer sure fer sure, I love my cherished great memories of growing up. Wow, music, it was the best. Tell me an artist from today's music, now I will compare them to 1 of my favorite from the 70s. I'll bet that I get you every time! 😏 ✌💜🤘🧡
Complicated , seems Stings has a huge ego , but the ego of the other two is not left behind, what loses is the music. Amazing dummer and a guitarrist so criative too.
That's amazing because that's exactly how I used to feel, listening to this in my bedroom on my record player at 10 years old in 1979; mystery and happiness - and maybe a touch of "what does the future hold"? Anyway - it's good stuff.
It's one of those songs where you just have to stop and listen. I was listening to the song on the radio in my car the other day. I stopped and listened to the song, before I got out of the car to go to work. Not many songs do that.
@@acidphaze YES! Great way of describing it , and i too have done that where a particular song is playing in the car and i have to sit there till the end pulled up before i get out lol.

Giant steps are what you take Walking on the moon I hope my legs don't break Walking on the moon We could walk forever Walking on the moon We could live together Walking on, walking on the moon
Quiet steps are what I take Sneaking in at noon Just in time for my lunch break Got my fork and spoon Time the cameras just right Duck in the bathroom I'm still drunk from last night Got driven home, I dont know by whom Some may say, I dont deserve any pay But hay I came up with 60s day, last May
When I was little, my mom would sing this when she carried me up the stairs to bed. Don't know why this song specifically. But it's always going to remind me of being in my mom's arms❤
