The Police were an English rock band formed in London in 1977. For the majority of their history, the band consisted of Sting (lead singer, bassist and principal songwriter), Andy Summers (guitarist) and Stewart Copeland (drummer). The Police became globally popular in the late 1970s and are generally regarded as one of the first new wave groups to achieve mainstream success, playing a style of rock that was influenced by punk, reggae, and jazz.
Stewart Armstrong Copeland (born July 16, 1952) is an American musician, multi-instrumentalist and composer best known as the drummer for the band the Police and for his film music soundtracks. He has also written various pieces of music for ballet, opera and orchestra.
Lyrics :
You consider me the young apprentice
Caught between the Scylla and Charibdes
Hypnotized by you if I should linger
Staring at the ring around your finger.
I have only come here seeking knowledge,
Things they would not teach me of in college.
I can see the destiny you sold turned into a shining band of gold.
I'll be wrapped around your finger.
I'll be wrapped around your finger
Mephistopheles is not your name
I know what you're up to just the same
I will listen hard to your tuition,
You will see it come to its fruition.
I'll be wrapped around your finger.
I'll be wrapped around your finger
Devil and the deep blue sea behind me,
Vanish in the air you'll never find me.
I will turn your face to alabaster,
When you'll find your servant is your master.
You'll be wrapped around my finger
You'll be wrapped around my finger
You'll be wrapped around my finger

Sting has always respected the talents and abilities of Copeland and Summers (and vice versa). The strife and disbandment came because Sting and Copeland disagreed on the drum rhythm for each song Sting wrote. They all realize that The Police are greater than the sum of their parts, and the reunion tour proved that. Watch “Better Than Therapy,” you see the dynamic and how with age came the maturity to overcome the strife.

It was truly an amazing sight to see and hear. Will never forget it.

Drumming is not a sport; and it's not a speed competition. The thing that I feel sets great drummers apart is the use of "space", and timing, and unexpected and off-beat fills and recoveries. Stewart is the man; every video I see of him is a drum lesson in musicianship. I remember back in the early 80's (yea, I'm old), the Police came to the Washington D.C. area. The buzz around high school was that Copeland was coming to town - gotta get tickets for Copeland. Cheers ...

The best thing about this reunion tour was the way they reworked a lot of the songs. In the 25 years they were apart, they all grew as musicians. Not only Sting with his solo success, Andy went deep into jazz and Stewart wrote operas, ballets, and film scores. They redid a bunch of their songs to reflect this growth. Slowing tempos, lowering keys, and extending and adding sections that didn't exist before. My favorite song from this tour was their new version of "Invisible Sun". Loved this slowed, deeper version of "Wrapped" as well.

The greatest showman and an iconic drummer. The Police was a band where the sum of the parts was beyond compare but the rivalry between Sting and Stewart Copeland was a catalyst for magic and a toxic entity. Stewart’s percussion work is terrific in this film!

@artysanmobile lmaooouuut.....underrated as in some critics and even fans didn't love it, said it was self indulgent blah blah. I think it's amazing, incredible saw the tour and they were at the top of the game. I was really pissed when they split. Saw the reunion and it was great but not like the hey day. That's all. My piano teacher (jazz and classical) always told me to listen to the drummers, and how they deal with rhythm. I knew several drummers, took a look, and wasn't very pleased. Then, as a longtime Jimi Hendrix fan, I focused on Mitch Mitchell, and he was great. Sometime later I saw an interview with Stuart in which he indicated that MM was his favorite drummer and that he considered him exorbitantly underrated. I checked out Stuart immediately and he opened up a new world for me. What passionate musician. Thanks Stu!

If a band sounds better live than the recording then they did a bad job recording the song.
@gustafsone
@gustafsone Год назад
@@redrick8900 It must suck to never enjoy a concert when the band you're there to see plays all of their songs slightly differently than they did when they recorded it years (and in this case, decades) ago. "Aja" by Steely Dan is often touted as one of the best studio recordings of all time. I've seen Steely Dan several times over the years and, other than Donald and Walter (RIP) being present as they were the two core members of the band, they had a rotating group of musicians who would tour with them any given year. As incredible as the "Aja" record is, nothing compares to when the band is playing it live right in front of you. Anything can happen during a live show and that's what makes it amazing. You shouldn't go to a concert expecting them to sound exactly like the record. That would be boring as hell. It's the imperfections of live music that makes it great!

When you listen to drums, even without music, just the drums, and you can clearly indentify the sign of the drummer, who it is, is that you are and will be always one of the greatests. Few drummers are in this club and a bunch of them might play at speed of sound but will never be remembered.

Not to mention the Paiste Sound Set he is playing and the two octave crotales & cup chimes, which are not cheap either, with the gong you're looking at about 20K in percussive sounds. I would not be surprised at all if they loaned him that stuff the tour, you be surprised at how well top level endorsers are treated with free gear though.
