A nice surprise! Well done to the Council for suggesting it and Fr John Devine for pursuing the suggestion. He has created a really inclusive welcoming and humane atmosphere at St Mary's so its nice for him and the congregation too. His sermons / homilies / general words are always full of thoughtfulness compassion and a sense of fairness and justice.
We have a co cathedral. One in South Bend, Indiana (home of Notre Dame); the other in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Both on each side of diocese. Only one bishop.
But how does Peel feel about it? They must be feeling a little put out that they were not given the same consideration! I am very pleased that Douglas has been so honored, first by the late Queen and now by the Pope. Well done to the Monsignor for his perseverance.
