Former Chicagoan, been to the Porcupine Mts a couple of times, but not in 40+ years. None of those lookouts existed back then, you hiked as close to the falls as your courage allowed. Good memories for sure.

That’s crazy. We actually thought the whole area was still very much underdeveloped and untouched compared to many other places. The stuff we picked was obviously marked, but we got the sense that there was so much there that we just couldn’t see. That’s why they call it a wilderness :)

you have to come back in the spring to see the falls then. it is terrifyingly beautiful.

Oh man! I am not surprised. It was such a beautiful area. We were hoping to revisit one day to check out many of the falls we didn’t do.

The views at the first spot were amazing. All those waterfalls were really nice. 👍😁

There are apparently a bunch of other falls along the river too, but I guess they weren't as nice to build trails too haha

You missed the falls on the Presque Isle river! I'd see these first before going to the Black River.

What a beautiful area - and so green! Looks like some fun mtb trails to me. 😅Always love a waterfall

My understanding is that the mountain biking trails there also serve as the skiing trails in winter :)

That sounds awesome! The water was pretty cold when we went in July - maybe 59°. I imagine Superior will be at or near its warmest when you go though. Maybe you get 68°? 😂

There are so many in the area. No joke, maybe a dozen or two more. We simply ran out of time.

There's over 60 water falls. Also hike the other side of the river for the best view of rainbow falls. Access is at the end of the road parking lot, across the suspension bridge. The bond falls hike is my favorite in the area.

@@MagellanandGreyhound 60 within the porkie area. There are over 300 total in the U.P. Alot of them have more than one way to get to them. Some pour right into lake superior.

@@AL4N. That's amazing. We had been to the Pictured Rocks area prior to this and saw a few. I remember them giving us a pamphlet with dozens to check out. It was overwhelming :)

The main entrance is near Silver City almost 9 hours from Detroit.

Just outside of Ontonagon... Silver City technically isn't a real place.
