May be it is just me, but i prefer physical buttons over a screen. Always finger prints in screen and it looks messy. The click of a button is far better. I compare this with the early eighties when digital watches came. It is all back to analog watches, because they look so much better. Now i realize i am biased towards buttons as i own a 2019 macan s and 2015 boxster gts, but i love the sophisticated interior with buttons, almost looks like an airplane cockpit, so functional and clean. Like the review, i will get a gts 4.0, just a matter of time when pricing stabilizes and deliveries become normal again.
Great review....this is the best choice for a closed sports car in this price range. To get a significant increase in thrills, you have to spend twice as much money. I prefer the Boxster GTS 4.0 but I like convertibles!
I love how basic the interior is. I wouldn't change a thing on this car, it's perfect. In addition to the seating all the key touch points are leather (i.e. steering wheel, shift knob, door pull handles, arm rests & center console arm rest). Full leather would cost another $2K and worth every penny if one is so inclined.
2 days ago I specced my GTS 4.0 and I didn't go for full leather interior because of the fact how it looks over time, dashboards looks just bad after sun abuse and stitches are all over the place.
@@DriveSteady just look up old Ferrari’s or Corvette’s dashboards to see how bad can it get. I drove couple Porsches with new leather dashboards and it looks stunning I’ll admit but that’s only at the beginning and I plan to keep mine for long time so I wouldn’t want to deal with restoration of dashboard leather that includes taking off windshield.
Just a correction in alcantara. There is quite a lot of misinformation out there. Firstly, IT DOES NOT WEAR OUT QUICKLY. As leather wears it gets shiny with oils, as alcantara wears the oils cause the fibres to stick together. It’s simple, wipe with an interior cleaner and microfibre and it will look better than leather
Great review! You should edit the description of this video because the 4.0L engine is common between GTS 4.0 and GT4. The 4.0L engine in GT4RS is not the same engine as the GTS 4.0 and GT4. The engine in the GT4RS is the same as the one in 911 GT3.
Exhaust note at the beginning of your drive sounded weird (maybe it’s a microphone issue). Mine sounds better when I push it. I don’t know if you noticed but it sounded like an air leak within the exhaust pipes which is surprising considering it’s a new car. Anyways, good review and I just love driving my Boxster GTS 4.0, one of best driver’s car available today.
@@jyriwirtanen1344 Its the exhaust valves which open/close constantly at low RPM even if your car is in sport or sport+ modes. The clicking is the metallic friction of the valves in fast open/close movement when passing through a specific engine RPM. If you want to keep them fully open at any RPM range, you need to install a valve controller designed by Cargraphic. Some Porsche dealers accept to install it for you because the clicking noise is quite annoying (it will not void your warranty). Hope this helps.
Love this car. On a list to get one. Up to two years wait (who knows if they will still make them in two years). BTW if a front trunk is a”frunk “ why isn’t a rear trunk a “runk “😜
Live in SoCal and just ordered the Boxter GTS 4.0 with the agate grey which is amazing after ceramic coat, and doing the full black leather with GT Silver stitching and seatbelt for accents on the interior, and of course, manual transmission. Will be beautiful and fully agree with the other points. Engine and handling are amazing and this will be a keeper as last of its kind.
Just took mine out of winter storage 2 days ago. 2022 Cayman GTS 4.0 in chalk with a manual. Still a little cold here in NJ though. Curious: Would you recommend any mods like: exhaust, window tint, short shifter, ECU tune? Or would you just keep it stock if you owned one?
Chalk is one of my favorite colors in Porsche offering! I haven't driven a manual but I think the exhaust sounds excellent stock. I personally would keep it stock
I have a 718 GT4 in chalk with a manual gearbox as well. It’s unbelievable and I’m very happy with the stock exhaust. You can’t get a lot more grunt from a NA motor unlike a turbo so for me I am not forking over the money for a tune and a better flowing exhaust/intake combo.
6:06-6:30 listen to the sound! There is an extra ticking sound in addition to the normal engine sounds. I have Boxter GTS 4,0 and same little bit disturbing sound since I bought it. Where does it come from? It goes away when you dont have AC on.

Huh? The exhaust valves do not open and close at a high frequency like you’re describing. The metallic noise he’s referencing is the sound of the high pressure direct fuel injectors. All of the 718s with this motor sound like this. Listen carefully to any review of a GTS 4.0, GT4, or Spyder. Here’s one example: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-DF1oelnaVDQ.html In fact, most modern DFI engines make a ticking noise. Here’s a video of direct fuel injectors being bench tested: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Hg1lhTlSZwE.html Due to something inherent in the 4.0L engine design, that sound is just much more pronounced in this engine.
US models have them as well but my understanding is they are inert unlike the Euro spec cars. Someone might be able to correct me on that but US law does not require them - again, my understanding from my own research. I have a US spec 4.0 718 and the sound is adequate for me but I think removing the OPF bungs and replacing them with over axel pipes will probably improve the sound a good bit.
