This brings back memories! When I used to live in Dartmouth a couple of years ago I used to catch the pedestrian ferry to Kingswear and have a wander around here. There was a huge abandoned (large house) estate just off that lane - that was the gates that you saw that led nowhere! Gommerock Castle is just down the slope - really odd looking place, and Kingswear Castle a bit further on - you can stay there as a holiday let nowadays! Another great video Martin - I will share this onto my Westcountry Wanderings Facebook Group. Take care, Paul
Hi Paul. Thanks a lot. We love exploring Kingswear as well. It was fascinating to see the old pathways & find out about its history. We are actually down this way again at the moment on holiday for a few days. I haven't had muh chance to catch up with my RU-vid subs videos for a week or so as I've had this awful nausea & spinning/giddy feeling recently & been sick etc. It's something to do with balance in my ears. Still struggling with it now but not as bad as its been. Did you go to the Avon Valley Railway 50th anniversary last weekend? We was going to go but I was in bed all day being sick unfortunately. All the best mate. 👍 😊😊
Another surprise from you Martin, as I've been to Kingswear many times but I haven't seen this part of it. It's good to see the places that you explore, around the corners that I miss. Nice weather for you, making for a nice video shoot.
Greetings from Pennsylvania, USA. Thank you for this beautiful video. That area must have a very different feel at night. I only noticed a few streetlights. Otherwise, it must be pitch dark there at night--only moonlight. Breathtaking terrain and atmosphere. 🧡
@@MartinPopeFilmmaker I studied for a semester in Aberystwyth, Wales when I was in graduate school. Took a tour of the UK. But never went to Devon. So lovely. Would like to visit there one day. Thank you again for sharing. ❤️
Been ill with flu and shingles, not happy bunny.Love kingswear its changed abit since the 90's but its still lovely there, and i do love the regatta.Amount time walked those lanes with my children, theres lovely long slide i used to walk them all to the top to use 2.44 ny lovely lanes to get lost in,its one my fav places. your find alot abandoned buildings, they just let them rot, maybe westcountry thing .in dartmouth there was loads walks i used do and round every corner was so many buildings from alot better times.sometime farmers think they own everything and put barb wire to stop hikers,i always carry pliers with me,as its a public right of way. warren woods is were i hike nearly every week,my fav place,so many times site there with glass of wine,my little beach i love so.we have landed there so may times with our kayak,i always call it my little castle,as i would fit in it.there was major fire if you kept going the other way towards brixham. used be lovely bear shop now sadly gone ,like most towns now.used drop my daughter to work to catch ferry for couple years.i carryed a wet kayak up those lanes as parked car up top debs xx
I've only recently found you on RU-vid . I love your videos. This one being really interesting. Btw, with your accent it's like listening to my family from Bath, Twerton area in particular. I assume youre from Bath too.
Wow, this looks amazing!! 🤩 I'm loving all the posh houses and that view is ridiculous! I definitely need to check out Kingswear sometime. That old abandoned building was kinda spooky, right? 🤔 Thanks for the cool tour!
As a living local community, Kingswear is pretty much dead. Around a quarter of houses have no permanent resident and it is down to just one pub. Search "Top 10....." cafes or shops in Kingswear and you don't get any in Kingswear at all!
Your right mate. It's just The Ship & The Steam Packet & a couple of shops. Dartmouth wasn't much better with shops closed or closing. It's still a very scenic place but these places must be so quiet in the Winter once all the second home owners have gone home. 😊😊
