Focus has been the bane of my elo since I started playing seriously. I'm definitely guilty of just going autopilot sometimes and not getting my head in the game. One thing that made the biggest difference for me and might help other people focus wise is journal what you did bad after a game or a session, and read that at the beginning of every round! Great video and great editing on this one btw!
@WilsonCS2
@WilsonCS2 Год назад
Thank you man!!:) that’s a sick idea. Ground yourself in stuff you want to work on/place your focus on at the start of every round. I’m gonna try that:)

In my head I've already thought of something like a diary of the bad things that happened in the last game, and also the things that worked, so I can probably incorporate them into my next game. So far I've never done that though, so I'll start that tomorrow. Also, I'm just starting to play on a team with my friend, so hopefully that will come in handy in that regard.

this is a really amazing video and a unique topic to... umm... focus on. most videos are umm focused on mechanical skill and the mental approach to a competitive game is never discussed. as a full time worker and partner (adult pretender) i struggle with focus all the time. there are rounds after which i don't even remember what happened.

dawg the points you made are well articulated and it accurately reflects what I'm experiencing whenever I play CSGO, used to grind hella games per session and it is indeed very mentally taxing so after couple games I would go on autopilot. limited to only playing 3-4 games a day and I was able to concentrate and have that focus to dedicate to those games I play, anyways u just earned a sub

You should make a video on confidence! I think confidence is something overlooked. It goes hand in hand with focus when you're in "the zone" or "flowing". Stuff like giving up map control because you're not confident in your shot or the angle you're holding which could make you reposition to a worse angle etc.

i think giving your self compliment when losing focus like "i have amazing focus" would be better than, it will boost your focus long term better, than reacting to lost focus negatively and then forcing to focus. Ultimately any mantra could work but if you attach it to something positive, it will give long term change as well. just some idea that came to my head

I was bottom fragging constantly then having brilliant games seemingly out of nowhere, my inconsistency started to make me dislike playing the game which sucked. What fixed it for me was just looking at my crosshair and making sure my placement was good, then if an enemy shows up (which you should be anticipating 99% of the time) all I have to do is track them with my eyes and click the head/click and drag the body, easy.

@ruleset
@ruleset Год назад
@@WilsonCS2 full sleep, i really enjoy this because of the peace and quiet in the night plus feeling focused gives me an even better sense of calm (i really feel damn peaceful) my sleep is mostly from 4pm to 10pm, sometimes until 3am or 5am even if im extra tired last real nap was in school when i was like 15 lol i have come to realize there are three possibilities for this: -this is just how im wired -my work is making me so tired (lots of repetitive motions and walking required to do my job), 6am to 2pm -being very dependent on caffeine for the past 10 years probably maybe the 2-3 coffees i have per day are messing with me (typical instant nescafe 2 teaspons) so that comes to around 150-200mg of caffeine that has the best effect on me when i wake up around that 10pm to 3am period i mentioned, that's the only time i feel an actual caffeine high (still a not so special high since i consume it every day), if i drink it after work which was a long habit of mine drinking even more caffeine that just makes me feel fucked or just doesn't do anything to me and i crash and feel even worse the next day even if i slept i am actually on my third try of quitting caffeine this time, but hopefully forever because i want to see if anything will change in a few months, even though i like this routine it's not ideal and not really sustainable, my routine sometimes falls apart and during the weekends i never do the same thing, maybe because im recovering from having to work (free on the weekends) life before caffeine was better (it actually was), being dependant on it to function sucks first try i did 7 days without it and felt tired, unfocused and unmotivated and 2 days of horrible withdrawal headaches, but my sleep was great second try same thing but 5 days after both tries the first cup i drank was the best high i ever had in my life, i felt the actual caffeine high, but much stronger, i could do anything, i had trouble directing my focus, but i felt great and really motivated. got a lot stuff done i remember whenever i got really sick and don't touch caffeine i feel really fucked, but after sickness i feel a lot better than before sickness, i blame the caffeine withdrawal this is why i'm gonna try a caffeine free life now and because caffeine is actually CAUSING headaches for me it's really nice to see you talk about stuff like this, that's what separates a pro from a casual, optimizing your life and habits to work for your gaming sessions it's so true because most of my friends are guilty of these things that you mentioned and they were never great at games, i even talked with one of my friends about this a few months ago, i asked him "how do you expect to perform good if you have 30 tabs related to cryptocurrency opened on the second monitor and constantly checking it, all the while smoking weed?", he laughed with realization, he knows it's not good, but continues to do it and i don't blame him, his goal is to stay casual, but if your goal is to become good at something you need to FOCUS, your video is really good and i hope many people see it as today we are bombarded by so many bullshit and people don't realize that they spend too much time and energy on this if you're wondering, i am in perfect health according to my doctor it is perfectly fine to sleep when you want to sleep, if you're tired, rest and sleep sorry for a long message, but i enjoy talking about this stuff and love to share my experiences with others that care about the game so much this is why matchmaking will never be truly perfect it can't be, we are all different people with different habits :) fun fact; most pro gamers are on a healthy diet and don't consume caffeine tenZ doesn't consume caffeine :)

Also as cheezy as this may sound, take vitamins, keep the brain full of all the various types of fuel it needs to run efficiently, like having darkish bags under your eyes is a sign of low potassium, which one of my big 2 i try to stay up on, the other being magnesium (i notice when my magneisum is low bc my vision gets a very subtle "static tv" filter layered over everything with like 10% opacity if that makes any sense). It helps with your entire life in general and also you get to reinforce your brain and tell it, "hey look at you taking vitamins consistently i like that i take care of myself, good job me"
@WilsonCS2
@WilsonCS2 Год назад
That’s some great great advice. Like you said, even just the act of doing it is a positive reinforcement to your brain. I need to get onto the magnesium because my energy levels vary so heavily

100% agree only playing when you have the mental energy. I work a construction job where both my body and mind are done after the workday is over. Long hours, physical labor, you get the gist. I'm tired, i'm sore, my energy is expended.. yet I still want to play some cs most nights for a bit. This can be incredibly frustrating because I'm playing a highly competitive game with thin margins for error in mechanics and shooting. Most people who aren't used to that kind of work would just lay down or go to sleep. But it's 7 or 8 PM and I want to game for a bit.. soo I made an alt for this reason and its the account where i decided i dont care about the rank. I'll still try but i'm using it to keep my mechanics up to date so I dont feel rusty on the weekend. I also always make sure to warm up for 15-20 minutes so I get my brain and hands into the game. And I make a point of only playing 1-3 games in a given session. I'll try to use my main on weekends and weekday evenings where I dont feel tired. The rest of the time I use my alt.
@WilsonCS2
@WilsonCS2 Год назад
Mannn that sounds exhausting. I like the idea of the second account purely for the weekdays. That mental and physical exhaustion for you must be no joke, and when I'm feeling like that (mental wise) it feels like I'm a different player.
@mikegsg9r

I've been ranking up by playing less and mostly playing in the morning with coffee when I'm excited to play. When I was younger I'd play all night cuz I wasn't doing anything else game after game and just lose and lose and lose. I usually just play one to two games max in the am and it works great.

After this you got me thinking about focus more and it made me realise that when i have insane games/sessions, i am insanely focused. But i think the main thing ive been havin trouble with is CONSISTENCY. I can play out of my mind one night and then the next day play not half as good. I can also sorta identify when im not gonna have a good session the second i get into aimbotz to warmup, i just feel not on point. Idk if this is because im not focused but its SO frustrating not playing up to my potential, i guess i just have to keep playing until i figure it out.

So as I smoker, I have some advice for the other smokers out there (which can also be applied if you don't smoke). After each game, go outside and light a smoke, and just let your mind drift reflecting on what happened that game, and focus on the mistakes you identify ("I shouldn't have peeked that round.", "I should have played more aggro that round", etc). Then when you come back you had a break to calm you down, and also reflected on some improvement points that should help at least in the long run.

One of the popular ways to enter focus in life overall is to count down from 5, which your brain has to focus on to do so Also, strongly agree on breaks. Having at least 15 minutes between each match is just so important, especially if you lost the match before.

Any tips on how to not lose focus of crosshair placement and actually focusing on the crosshair itself? Too many times I catch my self just going on auto pilot and not actually focusing on these things properly
@WilsonCS2

Watch my focus vid!! Hahah but other than that my advice would be to focus on your targets- use your eyes actively and track enemies heads/bodies. Your muscle memory will take over:)

Focus will come if you love your teammates and want to win for them and for yourself. Playing with randoms quickly becomes about mistakes, yours or your teammates. When in a premade team enviroment, if you accept your own and teammates misstakes and want to learn from them, CS will for you evolve into the Esport that it was destined to become after that Half life mod all those years ago. Focus on finding a team and after that, focus grows on trees.

@@WilsonCS2 really bad performance in university. I just got steamrolled on entry exams over and over again. Impossible to keep concentration on studying pretty much, so I never did good. Constant lose of focus on stuff that was hard to me, while I had an easy time on hyperfocusing in games (but not good enough to improve past a point) if you are at the point where you ask yourself "am I really just bad at everything compared to the regular guy.." then it's probably a sign to get checked up.
