The great Power Station, Andy Taylor, Robert Palmer and Tony Thompson performs live at Tineke with She Can Rock It from their 1996 album Living In Fear. All rights are reserved to the legitimate owners.
Tony Thomson was the truth. ☮️ Robert Palmer sings his ass-off here too. I missed this whole release somehow. I’m hearing-it for the first-time in 2023.
I've been trying to stir up as much as I can about Andy, heard much of what he did with DD, and was quite certain he was with The PS, but never knew much about him until 2 or 3 weeks ago. Even found his solo stuff too, pretty cool. I feel that he didn't get the credit deserved, he's his own man though, and knows what he likes in music! To you Andy...keep rocking 😎
How can those people in the audience just sit there and stare? Show some life! Did they understand the awesomeness before them? Anyway, I loved to hear Robert sing, and I miss him so much.
A lot of it is down to the TV show, some shows don't allow the audience to dance much. I bet given half a chance a lot of the audience would be funking out.
The real Power Station. Check out those powerful vocals, done right. Accept no substitutions. But that "audience". How could people sit there like that, all bored? What morgue did they pull them from?
Producer Bernard Edwards played bass on this track and the entire ‘Living in Fear’ album but died on pneumonia before the album release. John Taylor received writing credits but bowed out of recording to go to rehab. Bassist Guy Pratt (Pink Floyd, Robert Palmer solo, et al) toured the album. Wish there was more live footage beside the Top of the Pops performance of this song.
nice nice NICE! ... Awesome.. Palmer vintage voice! Tony T wicked on Drums. and Taylor all in black with the Rayban's sporting a nice guitar.... does not get better than this folks.... thanks for this post!
Still talking about power station today and what a great togetherness of superstars. I'm very surprised they were able to get Tony Thompson the guy's been on every single album it seems that's been ever made playing drums.
wow! i'm absolutely amazed at how underappreciated this video is nowadays. i'm sure if it came out in the 80's when Palmer and the Station were big, it would have been a great success. in any event, it's good music and a fine follow up to their earlier work!
Remember, this is an older audience, who probably never heard of them before. Or, if they had kids, listened to heavy metal, or something similar. And this was when John was in rehab/ divorcing Amanda, his wife at the time. So, that is why he wasn’t around then. Ten years or so after the first album. 1996, I think.
I really want to like Powerstation more than I do because the members represent epitome of power pop which is a genre that I think died with this band. This must've been child's play for Tony Thompson.
Like you, I've seen more than my fair share of synched-up padded drums / plastic cymbals and somehow sounding just like the record complete with invisible horn section.
Audience of middle aged harridans who don't know what's going on. It's Robert Palmer for gawds sake!!! The man was a fox. I love how inappropriate the song is for daytime tv as well.
Middle aged people of the 80s and the 90s were quite a different beast back then, unlike the more lively middle aged people of today(who are far more appreciative). And the 90s was an awkward period for The Power Station to regroup, since grunge, alt.rock, and industrial rock were still prominently strong and the rise of both bubblegum pop muzak and nu metal also didn't help out chances of renewed success for Power Station(who sadly disappeared soon after).
They lost Bernard Edwards after a Chic gig in Tokyo. He had severe flu and went to bed after the show, never woke up. Sobering thought that both Tony and Robert are gone too. Tony from cancer and Robert from a heart attack.
Just listen to those drums! I totally get why Led Zep chose him as their new drummer back in the '80's. I hope we get to hear some of those demos from '86 someday.
Él solo participó de este disco al comienzo y luego abandonó el proyecto. Por aquello Bernard Edwards terminó realizando el bassline del resto del disco. Luego en el disco y en vivo se presentaron como trío.
@andy morris no I saw some history on this, John Taylor was going through a divorce at this time so he was dealing with divorce and legal issues he didn't jump ship he actually he gets credit on the album even though he played on the other songs on the album but not on a few of these song this is one of the songs he never played on and didn't appear in but he was dealing mostly with a divorce during this time he did play in a few of the other songs on the album but not this one they had another basis guy I forgot his name but he got some other guy played bass on this song and many of the others while John was taking a recess
