I'm sorry, but you have the relationship the wrong way round: Andy cannot be complete without DD. His voice, playing. tunesmithery are way below standard to his DD input. It is a classic case of the 'whole being bigger than the sum of its parts'.
Me too. Andy put some very hard work into this album. As great as he was in Duran Duran, their style stifled Andy’s potential. Which was obvious on the “Thunder “ album..Even the Power Station
Andy taylor was one of my favorite band members in the band duran duran i had a little crush on him he was cute still his. I'm watching this on my phone now in february 2020
To be fair, his backing vocals to Simon Le Bon on many tracks live were pretty evident, strong and on pitch. I could hear he could sing. Not sure John Taylor can....it looks like he sings into the mike but I can never hear him! Ha ha.
His talent wasn't buried being a member of DD but he was the one who didn't want to be part of them probably because of his ego. Sad that he did it twice to the band where he became famous!
Ahh the '80's. I used to have hair like that. (I used to have hair). Andy sounds great, a terrific musician with a great voice. With the greatest of respect to his replacements, there really is only one Duran. The Power Station were great too, especially with Robert Palmer. Fine music.
That bassist in this show is Patrick O'Hearn from Missing Persons and before that Frank Zappa fame. He's released a bunch of new age music since this period. He's so talented.
@@amess0stuff89 Terry Bozzio was in John's band for Take it Easy & Rain comes down but left before thunder. That looks like Terry's Remo set here but Terry not present
@@fendergibsSo Andy hired a Terry clone with the same drum kit... I did wonder, knowing Terry was not a part of Thunder. It's funny that Steve Jones accused Andy of using him to get "the Pistols' sound" which is just a Les Paul through a Marshall, but Steve's dumb.
Andy's guitar is what pushed duran onto American radio past the other English new romantic acts...he gave the music a rock edge to appeal to American audiences..his riffs on hungry like the wolf, girls on film, Rio, and is something there something I should know are examples
right on. he played what was required and simon said he wished he had sung on the power station. i loved everything he did in the 80s then lost touch now hes unwell but recognized as the fifth ingredient. dd knew how talented he was and thats saying something considering their mammoth talents.
Just a few good tracks? Really? It is a very underrated album as well as a underrated musician. The problem is he is always known as a once member of Duran Duran. If I remember he produced and played on some of the biggest albums in the 80s and 90s
@@ktown6343 Yeah, he has his own production company. However, I do feel he should have played "Thunder" on this set. The songs he picked to play wasnt his best.
I remembered watching this live and when he said "this is the only hit I ever had" I realized that he knew his solo career wasn't going to be as big as Duran Duran. I always thought that Don't let Me Die Young was going to be a mega hit for him. He had a lot of great songs on Thunder. I feel he suffered the same fate Ace Frehley's first solo album did. From Nov 1984-1987 you had the Arena (1984) album (Duran) , A View to a Kill (1985) single (Duran), The Power Station (1985) album, Arcadia (1985) album, Andy's solo single (1986) and later album (1987), John's solo single (1986), Notorious (1986) and Robert Palmer's solo (1985) album (a lot of fans associated him with Duran because of The Power Station). So like Ace's album with a multitude of Kiss releases, Andy's album was part of a vastly over saturation of Duran Duran-esque releases. It's a shame because Andy's never reached the heights he should have. I'm sure in some ultimate reality, he became a rock god as he should have become in ours. To those who never heard this version: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-O7Kpg3_vDhk.html
Don't feel bad for the cat, he very active still, he's been producing a few acts and they've done alright. Go read his book, he saw the absurdity of the whole thing and decided that wife and kids wee more his cup of tea. Dude's been living in Ibiza for almost 30 years.
I remember seeing play at an outdoor gig at the Cabrillo Beach music festival. I almost forgot he had Patrick O'Hearn on bass from Missing Persons. I'm glad he's still kicking and playing with Ronnie Wood's son to this day. Great player.
@@mbrew3244 Thats his drum kit, but that is not Terry Bozzio, who did play on the studio version of this song & Take it Easy & is in the official videos. Patrick stayed and played on Thunder & toured with Andy. Ironically Andy, who left DD was replaced by Warren Cuccurullo. Warren is also from Missing Persons. Terry was working with Andy who told Terry that he was leaving DD. Terry then told Warren, as Missing Persons just broke up in 1986, & Warren started calling DD to get an audition & sending tapes before DD even knew Andy was leaving. Warren plays on Notorious & became an official member of DD in 1990.
When Andy auditioned for Duran Duran they were really impressed with him . He was the most experinced musician out of all of them at the time . It Doesn't surprised me at all that Andy moved on and did his own thing. He was a gutarist and wanted to get back to his rock roots. He defiantly deserved more success with his solo career then he got. He must of had crap managment or something, it's obvious the guy has mad talent.
Andy really hit it out of the ball park on this live performance!!! And this was live!!! I can hear the rawness in the distorted guitar!!! I can even hear when the guitar pick makes contact with the strings!!!! Wow awesome!!!! Performance!!!! Andy kicks butt as a guitarist!!!! He even expanded on some of the guitar solos and added more guitar licks in the songs!!!🙂 Andy is more of a feel player!!!! Not a technical shredder type player!!!🤓🤓🙂☺😊☺🙂 I wish he would have been a more prolific song writer and done more albums!!!🙂☺😊🙂
@@TommyLeBoeuf Thanks!!!!😊 Lately I have been appreciating Andy Taylor more now!!!! Maybe because today's music landscape sucks!!!😝😣 I also liked Andy when he played with The Power Station!!!! The super group that played a mixture of Pop music with Hard Rock lead guitar!!!!😊☺😊😀🤓😎🤓
i remember being very excited to see this when it was aired all those years ago...i wasn't let down then and i'm not let down now seeing it again. forgot about dweezil sitting in, fantastic. ah yes kiddies there was a time when mtv actually rocked.

@@jerryabram7400 Not so fast... yes Rosalie is Seger but to cement his tribute to Thin Lizzy, Andy ends with Lizzy's "The Cowboy Song". I saw the start - and end - of Andy's Thunder tour at the L. A. Forum... which started strong...
Andy taylor was one of the best guitor players duran furan the band is not the same with out him even today 2020 Durant Durant new guitar player is good but he will never be as good as andy was i like you still do today
I find it funny that some say that Andy's talent was buried in DD and things like that. Look, Andy knew exactly the kind of band DD was when he auditioned. It was his decision to get in the band, not only once but twice. DD was a new romantic/pop/rock/new wave band and Andy is a hard rock guitar player. It's combination that never lasts long.
his guitar is what pushed their songs onto American radio prior to any of the other new romantic bands...his rock edge made the songs more palatable for American audiences...mutually beneficial relationship ..I wish he stayed during the original run..he's phenomenal
Well, I say it could have lasted if DD didn't allow Simon Lebon's Femi songs get in the way. That's the problem right there since the mid/late 80s. Sad.
It was likeyesterday when I was surprised about Andy's guitar skills at Powerstation and singing skills by Thunder. it was for the first time to watch this video but I feel it is better than his album and the concert in Tokyo.Anyway his sound was opposite from DD and I was happy to listen this pure rock n role real time.
I sent this song to my Darling Wifey and my Best Friend in the world because I love her so very much and I am so grateful that she is my friend and I hope that she will always be with me forever and ever because she is my best friend and I am very happy for that and I hope she will continue to be my best friend forever and ever and forever because I love all of my family and my whole entire family and my entire family and all my family so very much and all of my children and all of my Grandkids especially Cassie and Adrian and Arabella my living angel and the next best female guitarist in the whole entire world and universe and beyond know one knows how miserable I am with out my heart and soul I live for those three children ❤😂🎉😢😮😅😊 sincerely Eddy Gilpatrick ❤😂🎉😢😮😅😊

Andy Taylor was the sole ingrediant for Duran Duran, he made their debut album special with his guitar playing. Great feel and has rock n' roll in his blood, just listening to his solo work now, it's great! Patrick O' Hearn on bass who was the keyboard player for Missing Persons as well as a New-Age solo artist. I have all his solo albums, they are excellent.
Thank You Tommy L for posting this concert video from the past . I personally was never a fan of the band Duran Duran. But when I heard the Thunder recording from Andy Taylor. I was very impressed and cant believe it took almost 30 years before I actually could see him perform in concert. Other then on video. Andy Taylor is very unique.
Now in 2020andy is almost sixthy years oldhestill has that good singing voice and still a goiod guitorplaythose are too things that I like about Andy now
Andy was the one who left his band for the second time. He can't erased his egoistic in nature coz, he probably thinks that he will be successful as a solo performer. Its hard when a member of the band doesn't want to comply with his bandmates.
a bloody great guitarist certainly gave duran a tougher edge but omg when he went solo he exploded .......u could see how good he was when he went the Power Station it was as if the shackles were broken off him
I totally agree. I don't think he should have ever really played with Duran Duran in the first place because he has such a fine hard rock edge while Duran Duran was too much pop (I did like them, but in the Eighties I became more of a hard rock fan myself.)
Thank you for sharing this, I love Andy's music. I wish he would come and do a few solo live dates in the UK, it was 1990 the last time I saw him solo, I don't bother with durex durex since they screwed him over the second time.
If Duran Duran had implemented more electric guitar into their music, I doubt Andy would've ever left. I can see DD taking a break after "A View To A Kill" for Power Station and Arcadia but then they should've returned with a rock meets new wave meets funk approach with heavier guitar than was on Seven and The Ragged Tiger so that Andy could've flexed his guitar muscles better.
I READ MANY COMMENT,,,,,,BUT DON T UNDERSTAND WHY THE PEOPLE SPEAK ABOUT HIS HAIRS AND HAIRCUT ,,,,,, I WATCH ON YOU TUBE BEAUTIFUL SHOW,,,,,GOOD PLAYER GUITAR,,,, INTERESSANT MUSIC SONGS,,,,,I DONT CARE ABOUT HIS HAIRS!!!!!!
