To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand lemongate. The references are extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of biology and geography most of the hints will go over a typical reader's head. There's also Danny's biased memory, which is deftly woven into her characterisation- her personal philosophy draws heavily from GRRM literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these theories, to realise that they're not just theories- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who don't know about lemongate truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the irony in Danny's memory of the lemon tree, which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev's Russian epic Fathers and Sons. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as GRRM's genius wit unfolds itself in his books. What fools.. how I pity them. 😂 And yes, by the way, i DO have a lemongate tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's really neat how some of the pauses make them feel more natural, like they are considering their words, for example 3:34, and Obama at one point in particular as well. Though there are some clunky bits where it doesn't feel as natural, but these are certainly impressive parts.

The fandom is crazy because they have been waiting for a book for 12 years and had more than enough time to comb through and analyse every word from the previous books to make up a ton of theories and have now grown very atached to them. Donald was right when he said :"This is what happens when we don't get new books, people just start making stuff up."

Absolutely. In a fandom with less enthusiastic theorists, it wouldn't at all be considered obvious. People would still figure it out, but they'd also see it as a plot twist, because it is one. It only seems obvious because the theory has existed practically as long as the series has.
